Beautiful setting on the river! Without the river view, the rating would be lower but we love a good view. The campground has mostly long term campers who were very helpful and friendly. There were 4 sites with full hookups available for transients when we visited. The sites are very close together, i.e. if you opened your awning with your slides out, the awning would be covering your whole site. However, this is ok because the beauty of the campground is setting up your table and chairs to overlook the river at the back of the site (the sites are very deep). Also, all hookups are at the back of the sites, so bring extra hoses if your hookups are closer to the front of your rig. Please note the campground does not provide picnic tables so bring your own. Since our son will be attending college in Potsdam, we have already booked parent's weekend and are looking forward to enjoying the views as the leaves change this Fall. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Very nice setting on a rocky stream. Would only suggest that owner add WiFi, add 'RV Park' to his sign, and perhaps put in Woodalls or other directory. We stumbled on this by accident. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This campground is in an idyllic setting along the banks of the West Branch of the St, Regis River about 7 miles northeast of Potsdam, NY. All sites are long back-ins and are within a few feet of the river with a clear grassy area along the bank. Previous reviewers must have placed a high value on this riverside setting in order to give it an 8 and 9 score. Interior roads and sites are gravel and this needs to be refreshed as muddy areas are present from recent rain. Each site is 30 amp, water and sewer. Sites are 21 feet wide which is too close for me but not bad for a private campground. The most serious defect in this campground is the electric power. Each power outlet has a 30 amp connector but the wiring that feeds each pedestal is not rated for 30 amps. When a heavy duty appliance is turned on, such as a toaster oven that draws 7 amps, the voltage drops 9 or 10 volts. This is a severe voltage drop for only a 7 amp increase in the load. I can only imagine what the voltage might be if a full 30 amps were drawn. The water lines are not buried but run along the surface of the ground. The sewer lines are buried only 2 or 3 inches deep and the tops of the sewer line can be seen along the surface of the ground. It appears that this campground was a Do-It-Yourself job. There is a modest bathhouse and it was clean but the interior construction also appears to be a Do-It-Yourself job. A sign outside the bathhouse directs you to choose an empty site. The friendly owners live in a house adjacent to the campground and they will come around and collect the rent as the small office at the bathhouse is not usually occupied. Potsdam has a small college and university that keeps the town alive. Don’t miss breakfast or lunch at the Village Diner downtown at Depot Street. Great food, lots of it, at affordable prices. The campground is in a rural area and is normally quiet except for some road noise from US Highway 11 which is about 300 yards from the campground. Private and state campgrounds in New York are more expensive than their counterparts in areas outside of the Northeast so $30 a night is a reasonable rate for this campground. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
A very nice small campground in a very pretty riverside location. A nice view of the fast flowing river right outside our back window. Friendly owners. No Wi-Fi, but with my antenna and booster I was able to pick up an open Linksys connection with no password protection. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Small family owned park. So quiet at night you can hear the river flowing over the rocks. This is our second visit and will be back when visiting family in the area. No activities at campground but a lot to visit in area. Really relaxing! We camped here in a Motorhome.
