This campground was very small with only 5 sites but very private and quiet. Full hook-ups were easily accessible and the distance between sites was very nice. Cable TV was provided and the owners were very friendly with suggestions for hiking and kayaking. We were only two blocks from town so access to art shops, groceries and restaurants was easy. Wallow Lake is a few minutes away and the towns of Enterprise and Willowa are only a half hour. Our weekly rate was $120. There are no restrooms or showers. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park is conveniently located two blocks from downtown Joseph. It only has five sites so you won’t find it listed in either Woodalls or Trailer Life since they require a minimum of ten sites to be listed in their guide. All five sites are gravel back-ins with FHU including cable. Each site has a picnic table. The WiFi signal is very weak and not usable but Verizon phone and aircard work here. There are no amenities, not even a bathroom so the daily rate of $25 is rather high compared to other places but the weekly rate of $120 makes it reasonable; monthly rate is $300. There is one “overflow” site which is water and electric only, on grass; rate is $20/day. The owners live in their home across from the park. The park is very quiet. We would stay again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Beware of owner/manager. We called ahead twice as a courtesy on the day of our reservation. When we arrived, the owner was clearly upset and began interrogating me about what took me so long to get there. My first attempt to calm the situation was to tell him the truth that it takes a long time to drag a heavy trailer across the state; especially with 6 small children who need frequent stops. That wasn't good enough for him. Clearly and visibly upset, he said, calling by my first name multiple times in very rude and condescending tones, "You did something, what was it!!" My next tactic was to tell him it was none of his business what I did before or after I left his park. At that point, he got belligerent and through me out of the office. I was left with a road weary family with no place to go for some reason that still baffles me to this day. Apparently taking more than 4 hours to drive from the Boise area to this park is a capital offense in this owner's mind. It was like a mix between the Twilight Zone and Bates Motel. Please - avoid the Mountain View Motel and RV Park at all possible. The guy is unstable. We Did Not Stay In This Park. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park has a number of negatives that prevents me from recommending it. 1) There are only about 9 FHU and they were all taken by long-term RVers. The rest of the sites are water and electric, a few of the sites have cable. There is only one price for RVers no matter what type of site you get. When we called, the owner led us to believe that we would get a FHU and we did not. 2) The owner allows his two dogs to run freely throughout the campground, barking and pooping all over the grass. Watch where you step. 3) We happen to stay during an event in Joseph. The owner allows tent camping and crammed as many people as possible into the grassy area. 4) The owner encourages you to dump your grey water onto your site to help keep it green. 5) The bathrooms and showers, while clean, were very rustic. The toilets wobble and the dividers and shower curtains don’t provide much privacy. Finally, there are no rules in this campground – nothing about quiet hours, etc. The owner has a laissez-faire attitude regarding rules. We camped here in a 30’ fifth wheel, and if you can guess, would not camp here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Very large sites. Great view, free fire wood, free WiFi. Very helpful. Central location. It is the place to stay while visiting the Wallowa's. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is NOT a full-service park as advertised. Most of the sites do not have sewer connections, although management will bring portable pump-out equipment upon request. They even ask that you dump gray water on their grassy site as a form of irrigation! We were inadvertently here during Chief Joseph Days rodeo (busiest week of the year), and Rfs were jammed into every possible space (i.e, most spaces were “double parked”). The WiFi is poor, and disconnects repeatedly (most likely due to the excessive volume of campers). Dogs are allowed to run free (particularly the owner’s). It is a very primitive park in a relatively remote and beautiful area, and does have a nice view of the Wallowa Mountains. With fewer occupants, the park is probably acceptable, although there are minimal shower facilities available. We camped 4 nights. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Management friendly. Park does not allow Pit Bulls. Any size rig ok. Grass sites, back in only. Free firewood for campfires. Would stay here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Good clean park. Lots of space and a great view of the Wallowa mountains. Centrally located also has cabins. I liked the Wi-Fi and shower house. Friendly and very helpful. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is our second year for visiting this park, they are probably the most congenial hosts around. When we did some damage to our travel trailer, they offered tools and time to help us out, which was greatly appreciated. Park is clean and nice, when completely full seems a little crowded, but that was only weekends. Close to lots of activities and great scenery. Pretty far off the beaten path, but worth the drive. Did not like to have to pay for showers, at the rate they charge per night, but solved that with using our own. Everyone should check out this area if even close to Northeast Oregon. Beautiful! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
A very nice setting and the owners are very nice. We stayed four days would liked to have stayed more. We will definitely return. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Friendly staff and good location. A little bit tight between spaces, so not great on a crowded weekend. Trees are beautiful. Biggest negative was that the showers were coin operated and didn't give the time indicated. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We loved this park! It was centrally located, literally across the street from the tram and about a half mile from the lake. The RV park was fantastic and the people were great. We were with 3 other RV's and they did their best to make sure we were close. It is a great place and we will definitely come back. Plan to stay for a few days, it is worth it! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Very nice family park in the woods with a resident Roosevelt Elk. Clean facility, sites not too level, dirt or gravel roads with lots of trees! Beautiful location. Would stay here again! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Great Park within walking distance of Wallowa Lake and the highest tram in the United States. Great destination spot for the whole family, miniature golf, swimming pool, bumper boats, go carts, fishing, boating. The best part the deer roam freely thru the area, I had a 4 point deer eating out of my hands. If you like a quite out of the way place for the whole family, this is the place to go. If you go, take deer friendly food, cracked corn and or barley seeds. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Beautiful campground with lots of trees. Deer wander through your campsite all day long. We had a pull through site. Tram ride is a must but expensive. @20.00 per person. Lake is five miles long and the people in the site next to us caught their limit of fish each day. Rained everyday except one. Next time will pick July or later to visit but will stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a beautiful park, really busy in the summer, but on the edges of the season, a pleasure to stay at. I had occasion to speak to the park folks several times, and found them to be friendly and knowledgeable, I hope I have the opportunity to return! We camped here in a Motorhome.
This state park was very busy and from looking at the reservation site it appears it stays that way. The sites are a bit close together but not uncomfortably so. There were a lot of kids running around and you needed to be careful driving because of kids on bikes. Once it started getting dark things quieted down nicely and stayed that way all night. They are in the process of replacing their sewer hookups. The new ones work well but there could be some problems with the older style especially if you have an elbow on the end of your hose. Their reservation web site references dumping the black water tank at the dump station and only using the ones in the sites for gray water. Pay close attention to the maximum trailer length shown on each site not just the overall site length as there could be some turning radius problems when you are backing in. Bottom line we would stay here again. (800) 452-5687 We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This park is NOT big rig friendly. The roads are very narrow with trees limbs hanging over the roads. It was impossible to get into the park entrance, even going the wrong way, without scraping the tops and sides of our 40' motor home. In addition, weeds were 3 feet high around the water and electric hookups, and the supposed sewer hookup was a cast iron pipe that came out of the ground and turned back down toward the ground. It was so old that our sewer connection would not screw in, and had we tried to dump, the effluent would have run backwards out on the ground. The park was extremely noisy with screaming kids (yes, I know kids scream, but not like this) and barking dogs. Staff did nothing to control either one, and in fact, when I tried to talk to 3 camp hosts sitting near their rigs, they practically ignored me. I had heard Oregon State Parks were among the best in the country, but our first visit to one certainly didn't bear that out. The park has a pretty setting, but needs management. We won't be back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Wallowa Lake State Park is a lovely place, with towering pines, snow-capped mountains and the beautiful, emerald-green lake. It's an outstanding state park, and the camping was fine. The bathrooms have hot water and plenty of showers and stalls. They were cleaner than at many state parks we have visited. There's a large amphitheater for campfire programs, a good-sized playground, and green space for games. Wood is for sale for $4 a boxload, which you can haul away on a cart. You can rent paddle or motorboats or swim in the lake. Right next door in the town of Wallowa Lake are restaurants, bumper boats and miniature golf. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a Campground, and not an RV park. If you are looking for Wifi and 50 amp service, this is not the place. This is a very popular state park. The area is fairly remote, but do not let that stop you. The lake is beautiful. The park is a good place for water related activities. Although it is a fair hike from the campsites to the water if you have kids. More to do there for kids than adults. Avoid weekends as they tend to be crowded and noisy. The town of Joseph is 6 miles away and worth the visit. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
