Once we finally arrived at the campground it wasn't really what we were hoping for in terms of view of Lake Marion. We had a nice view of the lake but the water level was so extremely low due to the nations draught. When we checked in at the office there was a repulsive odor inside the office/store/bait& tackle shop, as if the garbage somewhere hadn't been taken care of in a very long time. It was very windy and because of the vast openness of the lake it just seemed to blow right through us and there wasn't any "protection" from that Lake affect wind. Once we hooked up and settled in we noticed 2 dumpsters on either side of our site. There were clearly many permanent residents. It looked more like a mobile home park which may not even be part of this "campground" but close enough to make this mistake. The bathrooms were disgusting and the flushing of the toilet was nauseating because it appeared to be "reclaimed' sewer water. YUCK! We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Very nice campground in the rural area of Cross, SC. Offers excellent environment for families wanting an area for children/teens to have things to do while camping. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We were looking for a place to spend the night on the way to Florida and found this campground through a web search. We pulled in after 6pm when the office closes. We were told just to pick a site and settle up in the morning. We selected a site overlooking Lake Marion. It was a pull through site, very wide, fantastic view. During the summer check their schedule because they have live entertainment in the pavalion on Satuday nights from 8pm to midnight. Free if you camp there. This is about 15 miles east of I95 but is worth the drive. Do not believe any routings given by Map Quest. They will take you down a one lane dirt road. Stay on Old Route Six until you see their sign and make a left on Rocks Pond Road. It is a little off the main drag but a very nice place with real friendly people. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
