This was a great find for us, as we hit eastern South Dakota at the height of the Sturgis motorcycle rally (first week of August), and couldn't find an RV site anywhere. With a map and the Trailer Life Directory, we found this little campground in Wasta, which is a tiny, tiny little town right on Highway 90. Our first impression wasn't great, as the trees are all small and new, and the grass was turning brown from the continuing drought. But we were directed into spacious and level pull-through site, and the owners delivered an empty garbage can right to our site for our use. The campground is within sight of the railroad tracks, but from inside our coach, we didn't hear a single train during the 4 days we were there. Everything in the campground is in good repair, and the small store, bathrooms and showers were spotless. The RV park is next to a motel, and campground guests are allowed use of the motel's pool, which is right across a small street from the campground. We gave this "no frills" campground a higher rating than some other full service campgrounds I could mention, primarily because of the owners. They were helpful, friendly, outgoing and seemed genuinely happy and willing to do anything they could to help us enjoy our stay. They run a small store on site with a rock shop that's worth a look. As far as we're concerned, good people make a good campground more than all the amenities in the world. We camped here in a Motorhome.
