Actually camped there in 2008, but that date wasn't an option. We would like to echo all the good things previously stated about this park. For military history buffs, the 12th Armored Division museum is in Abilene. Also, the ruins of WWII Camp Barkeley are very close to the park. Just off Hwy 277. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This state park is like a hidden gem in Texas. We were not expecting much due to its location, but it is actually a very pretty park. The swimming pool is top notch with lifeguards on duty, the wildlife is abundant, and the campground is quiet. If you don't have reservations though, be aware that the state park may stick you in the "wagon wheel." While not bad, it is not ideal because of lack of shade and privacy. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This state park campground was not on par with others we visited on the same trip. Park is located a considerable distance from Abilene and although no damage was done to the rig the web site directions had us go through a small town with many low hanging trees. Sites were rather small but trees and brush provided privacy. Interior roads seemed narrow due to the trees on both sides. We had no real problems with this campground beside a cramped feeling due to the vegetation. It just does not seem like the kind of place you would go to spend more than a night or two at most. That being said it is probably the best campground in the area so we would stay here again if passing through. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
