Campground is located in suburban area of Hampton at the rear of a 100 acre city park. Park office is located nearby and staff are very helpful and friendly. Sites are fairly grass/gravel with large evergreens providing shade. Electric is 30amp. Water & electric are padlocked until you register. Arrive before 4:30 otherwise you will have to camp rough for the night/weekend unless you can catch the caretaker cleaning the showers, or driving through the grounds. HRT (bus) stops 400 yards from campground cnr Clemwood Pwy & Little Back River Rd & covers Hampton, Virginia Beach & Newport pretty well. $3.50 buys all day pass. $5.50 allows use of ferries & express buses. Park locked after dark, however road through Campground left open (turn left at 7-11 on Back River Rd) - which creates traffic - especially in the early morning. Nearby Air Force base (other side of bay) also can be noisy - but only during daylight hours. Great place to stay if you have business/visits to do in Hampton/Virginia Beach area & don't have other transport. We camped here in a Motorhome.

I agree with almost all of the previous reviewer's comments about this campground except for the noise. For the most part it is quiet. However, there's a lady who appears to be a long-time resident who won't control her dog. She has two dogs: one is kept inside her motorhome and the other is tied up outside 24 hrs a day, every day. This mutt barks at everything and everyone and is a constant problem. The owner does nothing about it. She lets the dog bark non-stop. Numerous campers made comments to us during our stay that the campground host refuses to take action because she is friends with the dog owner. I don't see why they tolerate it. Complaints should be made to the base commander if the host won't take action. We were only there for a short time but would definitely file a formal complaint if we were long-termers like some of the others there. This shouldn't be allowed to happen. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Not open to the general public. This park is limited to people with a military affiliation. The campground is small but provides a nice place to stay long-term or when passing through the area. Close to all sorts of shopping. It's associated with Langley AFB but is not physically on the base. It is part of the Bethel Recreation Area off Saunders Rd or Big Bethel Rd. Many tall trees make satellite tv reception all but impossible. Approximately 10 tv stations are available with your tv antenna, however. Very quiet during the week. Some increase in campground traffic on weekends due to proximity of the base-owned paintball field and Bethel Rec Area next door. All campground advertisements mention the dump station but fail to point out that sewer hookups are also available at each site. Langley security police patrol the c.g. several times per day. The host couple is very nice and always available via cell phone when not in the office. There are posted rules but everyone is treated like an adult and left alone to govern themselves. I have not seen or heard of any problems. Nothing fancy about this c.g. but if you're credentials permit you to stay here you'll probably be very satisfied with the inexpensive experience. $18/day or $485/mo. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
