This is a beautiful park! I had a nice, private no-hookup campsite facing the lake, very woodsy, mossy, green and very quiet [stayed Sunday to Wednesday--the weekend crowd had gone]. I did not use the public restrooms. Nice hiking trails along the lake. The $11/night rate reflects my WA state limited-income senior pass. Will definitely revisit this park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This park has "full hook up" sites and another loop with water/electricity only sites. We stayed in a "premium" full hookup site, mostly because it was simply a nicer site. We did not have a reservation, but they're recommended after mid-May. The restrooms were somewhat worn, but typical of other state parks we've been in. They were clean. Showers require tokens (3 min fifty cents). However, they're a long walk from many of the sites and access is via meandering trails in the center of the camping loop. Sites on the inside of the loop connect to the trails, but sites on the outside must either cross an inside campsite (many were vacant during our stay) or walk even further along the access road. This park was very shady with lots of trees. Power boats in the lake were sometimes annoyingly loud. Otherwise, the ambiance was very pleasant. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Stopped here just one night en route from Mount St. Helens through White Pass to eastern WA. Would love to come back and explore for more days. Park is right on Mayfield Lake and very wooded with lots of shade. Stayed in a standard, no hook-ups site 85 with our 23' Navion since it was our first night of our journey. Very family friendly campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a beautiful, older state park. There are several sites located on the water, but most of them are not. The bathrooms are isolated, but very clean. We have a 24 foot travel trailer and camped in site 28 - our friends had a 25 foot motorhome and camped in site 26. Both had easy manuverability and plenty of room for awnings. Site 28 had a much better view of the water. We did notice that in some of the sites you would need to work around large trees. The down side is that in May it is really wet. We were prepared for some rain - but this was past rain and close to monsoon. We would stay again, but probably in August. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
Heavily forested State Park with river/lake frontage, although few sites have views of either. We came mid-October and on a Sunday so had the place pretty much to ourselves. The quiet was broken only by an occasional "geese-flyover," and annoying crow, and an evening frog serenade. A deer family strolled by in the mornings and osprey, loon and grebes are pretty common. The spaces are pretty typical of older State Parks, neither overly long or wide. Rigs over 30' should probably choose a backin sites and check online for site description before coming. Our 30' fit snugly but glad we didn't have a slide or were any longer. Sites are pretty level and the heavy undergrowth provides for a lot of privacy. Cell phone service is iffy at best and don't expected to find any sites with southern exposure. Open all year Restrooms are clean, flush toilets, cold water sinks and hot showers. ($.50 for 3 minutes, tokens sold at entrance.) Speaking about entrances, there is a new system being tried. You call on the yellow phone behind the entrance office and they will register you that way. All and all, its a pretty nice park with hiking trails around the lake. We used the Senior Off-Season pass available for WA residents over 65 I think. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Lovely family-oriented park with heavy forest and beautiful views. The sites are very tight for 40' MH, and mine required me to remove a log post to make the pull through turn (which I did replace neatly when I left). Choose your site carefully from the reservation website: the photos provided give a pretty good idea of what they are like. If you have a rig less than about 32', you will have few problems. If you have a rig more than 40', it may not be possible. It is peaceful, beautiful, and very well cared for, so the effort is worth it. We will look forward to camping here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Beautiful forested area with large campsites. Hiking trails throughout the park and a great place to kayak. We arrived without a reservation and spent two days enjoying this wonderful place. The park attendants were very helpful finding us a site we could enjoy for two days instead of just one and had we known of this jewel we would have reserved ahead and stayed longer. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
What a treasure. We stumbled onto this state park because we needed somewhere on the way to Mt. Rainier and saw it on the map. It is a beautiful park with wonderful sites surrounded by huge trees. If we had time we would have loved to stay a month! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Rate reflects electric and water hook-ups only. Full hook-up sites were closed while we were here -- cost for full hook-ups is $27.00. Sites are spacious with fire rings, picnic tables, heavily shaded and well separated. Asphalt pads are generally level and some will accommodate the largest RV. The campground can be busy and noisy in the summer especially with all the boats and PWCs on the lake but, quiets down quite well in the evening. The lake can be fair to good for fishing for trout. We will return. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This is a beautiful park. The trees are lush and for the first time in 25 trips we were not awakened when the sun came up because the trees blocked out the bright light. The park was quiet, and wild blackberries were all along the shoreline. We noticed that park personnel came through the park on a regular basis, but did nothing about campers adjacent to us who had extra vehicles obstructing the drive through the campground. This surprised us as rangers are generally really mindful in regard to vehicles not parked properly. We drove into Mossyrock to get fuel, where there was a small grocery store. We could not pick up any tv stations, but had great cell phone service, which surprised us. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
We were disappointed with this park. We reserved a pull through site. When we arrived at the park after 5 to 6 miles off the hwy, our site was very uneven with large pot holes and areas where they had filled in more asphalt for repairs and left large mounds. The space was hard to get in and the exit very tight between trees. We felt it was definitely not worth the fee and reservation fee. We would not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We found this park by accident. We went to a "resort" but didn't like it, and passed this park, so decided to try it. Only one part of the campground was open, and reservations were not needed. The park was clean and quiet. They had just built cabins along the lake, so some of the pictures of the sites on the website were taken before the cabins were built. There is a trail along the lake to walk. We were treated to the sight of deer in the late afternoon along the water's edge. We will go back to this park again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
I love this park. It's got allot to offer with the swimming area, and trails, but you have to go across the parks main entrance to use it. A beautiful setting. Hosts are friendly and helpful. I would recommend this park anytime. Off season is about the best time to go unless you can get reservation during the summer.. It always full. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Nice country park. But very noisy with boat traffic on the lake and nearby river. We stayed there on Labor Day weekend. Would not return on a weekend due to boat noise, as loud as camping near a highway! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Varied Spaces - We have stayed here many times. This is our favorite camping spot in Washington. The park is always clean, the Hosts are always pleasant. The full service loop sites 1-14 on the lake side are too small for our 28 foot fifth wheel, the best spots are 18-24. Our last stay was in loop B with no septic but the spaces are larger and seem a little more private. You loose the beach access from the campsites here but it was a good area. Showers are 50 cents for 3 minutes now. Overall the park is pretty peaceful for the size and the lake adds a great atmosphere. The local day use area has a beach but was too busy this last visit, there was not enough parking. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is one of the most popular state parks in the state. It is virtually booked up for weekends through the rest of the summer. This is not a big rig friendly park. I managed to find one back in spot in the full hookup area for my 31ft. 5th wheel, but it was tough going. In the dry camp area you might find more luck. This was the first place we ever camped at and we love it. But it will be crowded during the summer weekends. It is an older park, built back in the days when the largest trailer out there was 30 feet long. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
A very nice State Campground with sites that share a campfire. Nicely tall wooded area, sites and area is clean and well kept. All sites are on asphalt and easy to level your R.V. Not all sites have sewer hook up, although you can stop on the way out to dump before leaving. I will return here again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great Place: if you like a resort. This one is focused on the lake and is very family orientated. It is very attractive to non campers as it has a good restaurant as well as a store and is a popular day use area. There is even a dance on Saturday nights during the summer in an open air dance hall. The dance ends at 10pm which is the start of quiet time. Unfortunately it is not a very quiet park on a busy weekend when the weather is nice, lots of parties in the park as well as on neighboring properties. Large rigs may have some difficulty getting into some sites. The sites are not level, bring extra materials to level the rig. I had elevate the front axle over 6 to 8 inches. We will use this park again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The accommodations at this resort were superb. They have a nice fishing dock for those who want to try their skills on the stocked lake trout and other species. Bring your own boat or rent their pontoon deck boat for a very reasonable price. The management team is awesome. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here as RPI Member. Nice looking campground with lots of boat docks. Pros Very nice children's playground, nice grass areas at the sites Cons No TV reception, No Wi-Fi, and reason for not rating higher - sites was very unlevel. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This was our first time here and the rate is the off season rate. The site map is not quite to scale. You could have problems getting a big rig into the back in sites if there is someone in the sites ahead of you and many hookups are at the back or on the right. Overall a nice park with 2 nice playgrounds for the kids. We would come back. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We made a reservation early for this park. We received the Fireman's discount on their rates. We were given a lakefront campsite with a wood deck and picnic table in the shade. Perfect! We stayed two days so we could ride the Mt Rainier Steam Train. One drawback, we had planned an anniversary dinner at the restaurant but the chef had quit about a month ago and the restaurant is closed. Well stocked store with RV supplies, food, beverages, snacks and good ice cream. It was a must have stop every day. The host was very helpful in getting us into our site so we could get out on Sunday. Friendly staff, well run place. Clean restrooms and showers. Our site did not have a sewer hook up so the guys did the hiking for showers and let the ladies use the FW. This place is GREAT. We will plan to come back, stay longer and stay here next year. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
We camped here in a pull through site (one of their premier sites). The main reason was the access to docks for our friend's wave runners. The area was clean and each site had a small patch of grass. There was no privacy or shade (for any site), but we were very close to the lake and docks. They also had a small swimming area although it was a semi-steep grassy bank down to small beach area. The office is located in the rear of the park in the resort store. When checking in they said what is most important is the quiet time between the hours of 10 pm and 7:30 am. On Saturday night they had a family dance with music for kids and adults. We would definitely go back again if we go to use wave runners on the lake again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a very nice family park. The night life here is fun. They play music and people come to dance and have fun. The fishing is good too. The staff is very friendly. We will camp here again. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
If you have children this is the place for you. Lots of boating and fishing fun. Lots to do 24/7 This is not a quiet place, do not stay here if you don't have children or if you like quiet. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great, very family oriented park. Lake is big yet not too crowded. There are two large playgrounds, rooms for rent, a restaurant, store, great fishing, docks, boat rentals, activities for kids, etc. There is a fishing dock that has plush, comfortable seats built in! The "resident" bald eagle is amazing to watch. The interior road is paved and sites are gravel. Most sites have picnic tables and fire pit. If they had cable and Wifi this place would be perfect. The gravel in the sites is a real mess when damp so bring your mats. The TV reception was 1 fuzzy channel so don't forget the satellite dish or just watch the lake or their rental VHS tapes (no DVD's). The sites are fairly level. Hook ups are placed awkwardly so bring some extra length utilities. The staff can be slightly rude but were accommodating when we asked to move sites due to some renovating they were doing. The restaurant was also under renovation so I can not attest to the food, however we will return and will try it then. We camped here in a Motorhome.
All but two of the RV slots have full hook up and most are pretty easy to navigate with a large RV or trailer (many are pull through). The grounds are mostly gravel with a small (maybe 10'x10') slip of grass, picnic table and fire pit for each slot. Likes: - Quiet time at 10:00 - Grounds are well maintained - Clean showers and bathrooms - Plenty of garbage cans (no overflows) - Small, but well stocked store - Boat launch with a gas station, plenty of trailer slots and boat slips - Lake is small enough to not be busy, but big enough to take 15-20 minutes to run from end to end. Has Rainbow trout, Tiger Musky and at least one other fish. - Very kid friendly. Has two big playgrounds, basketball court, volleyball area and the dance on Saturday night has lots of kids music. Dislikes - The utilities are at the end of the slots, so be sure to have a long H20 and sewer hose. - It is built into a side of hill, so not all of the slots are level (we didn't bother hooking up our sewer line because the drop was uphill from our discharge). Slots 67-74 were okay, but 81-88 seemed worse. The rest appeared to be fairly level (but not sure about 100-104). - The dance on Saturday nights brings locals out of the hills and the place gets very busy and loud. Local kids also seem to drop by and cruise the place as well. - If you have young kids like us (infants or toddlers) on a sleep schedule, don't bother coming here. The dance goes until 10:00 and is too loud to get them to sleep. Wait until they're at an age where you can keep them up late w/o throwing off whatever schedule you have them on. We stayed along the 67-74 strip. When we go back, we'll either stay in 36-37 or 95-104 to keep away from the noise and traffic. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
Beautiful little secret not far from the main road nestled between Rainier and St. Helens National parks. Owner/manager "feeds" the bald eagles by placing raw chicken parts on the dock. Eagles fly from far across lake and grab them from dock in mid-flight! Great show for everyone! Flying bug factor not bad for a lake site. Lush surroundings. Good hiking, great fishing, little day drives abound on the dozens of back roads. Many sites are lake front, and almost all are level. Managers fairly friendly. Rules are strict, but not overbearing. Prices at store mid-high. Actually camped there in 2003. I will go back. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
I last reviewed this park in June 2011. Same great park now as it was then. Park staff at the front gate are especially friendly and helpful. I also note that they patrol the area frequently. The camp is well maintained and the lawns are immaculate. We'll be back...in Sept. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
This is a great campground run by Tacoma Public Utilities as part of the Cowlitz River Project. We stayed in the main campground and found that the views of Riffe lake were fantastic from our site. There are only partial hook ups at this campground so visiting the showers was necessary and they were spotless the both times I used them. There is a store/cafe near the beach which carries most of the items you might run out of or maybe forget and the Riffe burger basket isn't half bad. The only criticism is that we would have loved to have stayed an extra day except for the policy of apparently allowing people to rent a camp site to park their boat and tow vehicle while camping with friends at another site effectively locking someone out of actually using the spot for its intended purpose of camping. It was disappointing to see it allowed. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful park. Nicely tended lawns surround the campsites. Campsite themselves have paved drives and gravel tent/table area. Driveways are not level. I had to add three inches on the left side to find level. Remember, this is a campground. A great place to come and let your kids/grandkids play. Good sight seeing in the area. If your life requires television and WiFi this is not the place for you. I just wish that they would add sewer hook ups. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Great park! We stayed for a week and had a great time. We went with a very large group with a motorhome, travel trailer, several tents, and 4 boats. Sites had plenty of room and there was an open space across from our sites that was perfect for a giant water fight, but would also be great for a football game, baseball game, etc. Lots of stuff to do: bike paths, horseshoes, playground, and swimming area. The lake is huge and when we were here during the middle of the week there was not much traffic. Loved that there was laundry facility in the park. Would give it a 10 if there was sewer hookup. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

A good place for an overnight stay with pretty lake views even from some of the upper loop sites. We wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the lake. I would like to stay near the shore next time. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Excellent campground only 25 miles east of I-5 on the way to Mt. Ranier. Sites are laid out in such a way that you don't have to look in your neighbors window. Cell phone availability is very spotty to non existant. I would give this a higher rating if they had 50 amp and sewer at each site. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The regular reserved RV sites are $22; however overflow unreserved sites without power and water are $11. We actually moved from a $22 site to the $11 site because these sites were right on the water; had a better view; and more convenient to the boat launch, swimming beach, laundry and store. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We love this park due to the large campsites and large play field. There is also a store near the swimming area that has breakfasts during the summer. There are multiple playgrounds also. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Level gravel sites with lots of grass around your space. Only water and electric, but plenty of dumping stations on the way out. This place is a jewel with a great staff. It does fill up on weekends. You probably won't get in without a reservation. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Sites were large and spacious. One draw back is the birds eye loop is up a pretty decent sized hill. Restrooms were clean but doors were left proped open so bugs would hang out in there. Showers were only 1 stall so you would have to get dressed on the wet floor. Not much to do in the area. If you like boating/fishing this is a great location for you. We camped here in a Motorhome.
This one has something for almost everyone. Boating, fishing, swimming, playgrounds, horseshoe pits, endless undulating grassy meadows and a camp store that serves up good breakfast and a respectable cuppa joe. It's a large, clean campground in a beautiful setting. Open and grassy, but with ample mature deciduous and evergreen trees and a good mix of sun and shade. A wide selection of pull-through and back-in sites are distributed among three loops. some by the water, some in the 'birds eye' loop overlooking the lake and campground. The sites themselves are well-laid out. Fire pits are thoughtfully located away from the pad and out of the foot traffic areas. This one was also great for the kids. They loved the grassy fields and play structures. Good biking opportunities. A large beach, and a grassy slope that's good for volleyball. The only drawback I found was the lack of sewer hookups. Sites come with power and water only. Pull-throughs have a somewhat tight radius that can be a bit of a challenge for longer rigs. Those might be happier in the many back-ins available. In both cases, maneuverability and visibility are excellent. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Tacoma Power campground with boat launch on Riffe Lake. Very well kept with large spaces lots of play equipment for kids. Good fishing and water sports lake . Lots of grass and trees. 22 miles from I-5 S of Chehalis. We camped here in a Motorhome.
