OK, so why a 9 rating, with dirty showers and bad bathrooms? I guess I just anticipated that as a county park open to the public the bathrooms would be less than desirable. Once you get by that, after all you are in your own rig, this is really a nice place. Lots of space between your neighbors, level spots, great camp hosts, right by Lake Mendota, greener than you can imagine, 4 bars of the faster Verizon 4g you can imagine. It really is a great place. We were here for 2 weeks and enjoyed every day here. Both the local police and the county rangers run regular patrols though the place. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Really nice Park. The odd # sites are reserveable online and the even ones are on a first come basis. The good - The sites are really nice, great shade, there is gravel under the grass so parking area is level and stable. There is a ton of space between the sites so it's almost like you have your own little park to camp in. The electric (30 amp) was consistent. The traffic noise from the street was there, but certainly not obtrusive. The lake is a short walk away and is very nice. The campground host were very nice and accommodating. We noticed police patrols (both local, country, and rangers) making regular runs though the park. The dump station is conveniently located and we very easy to use. The not so good - This is a country park so with budget cuts. Upkeep on some of the auxiliary facilities is spotty at best. Showers and bathrooms are both usable but not the cleanest. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
One of the Dane County parks located in the Madison area. The sites are in a park like setting with large trees, which limit sattelite use. There is some traffic noise. Restrooms/showers are some distance from the rv sites, as they service the beach and playground area of the park. They are rather dated, but useable. Water is also quite some distance from the rv sites. This an acceptable campground, while visiting the Madison area. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
