This park survives solely as a safe, quiet place to park an RV for as many nights you need to explore the beautiful surrounding area. Resting on the outskirts of the American-Swiss community of New Glarus you'll find the park in close proximity to a great deal of south-central Wisconsin's natural and cultural attractions. This includes an excellent Belgian brewery and the Swiss community. The highlight, for us at least, is the Oktoberfest now held in late September. We have camped here both in 2007 and 2008. The "RV Park" is basically a grass lot with moderately functional water and usually stable electrical connections for RVs. At the same time the lot serves as a storage area for a couple of ancient, broken down RVs ranging from a pop-up to a used-up Holiday Rambler. As the name implies the park is mostly an adjunct to a stereotypical breakfast and lunch greasy spoon. Additionally there is a pretty seedy looking motel but I don't think that is in regular operation. The dump station is not always in service. It depends if there has been recent heavy rainfall. If it is closed they recommend using the nearby New Glarus Woods State Park RV camping facilities. Here's a secret, they don't have a dump station, yet. While looking over the state park we were told by the Ranger that next year they were going to build 40 additional electric only RV sites with the usual Wisconsin state park facilities. When they're finished we'll be sure to headquarter our New Glarus excursions in the state park. While some of this review paints a pretty bleak picture I want to emphasize that both times we have stayed here it has been a safe and pleasant place for our friends and us to camp and enjoy the previously described attractions. We will camp here once or twice every year until expanded New Glarus Woods facilities open up. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
