A ways off the beaten path and down a dirt road to get there. Once your there it's worth it. Pretty lake although most sites aren't to close to it. We camped at Chilatchee Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Great overnight stay. Due to my GPS I arrived just after dark so Camp host escorted me to site and helped me get backed in. We camped at Chilatchee Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

First thing in the morning I took my dogs for a walk to the end of the road I was camped on. Out in the lake there was an island filled with birds waking up. Amazing to hear what sounded like hundreds or thousands of birds. Especially neat since it was still dark out.

Nice park, next to lake. Most spots on lake have pretty steep drop to water. Some have small piers. About 2 miles of dirt road to access park, but well kept. No problem in large motorhome: most sites had plenty of room. We camped at Chilatchee Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is OUT THERE! Probably 8-10 miles for gas. Needless to say NO noise. Really nice park to sit back and enjoy surroundings.

Overall Rating:

A nice campground, trees, lake-front sites (10-21, 24-27), 1.3 mi dirt (red clay) road just before the campground entrance which would be a mess, but probably passable, with much rain. No TV, our Verizon service was marginal. A great spot if you want to get away from it all and kick back. If you want a water front site, don't go by the Reserve America campsite map. Some of what look like waterfront sites are "swamp front" sites, can hardly see any water. We camped at Chilatchee Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a nice COE campground but is very remote. Just the way I like it. Our site was lake front and the view was spectacular. Most sites were shady and private. You will have problems getting a satellite signal. As listed on the web site the entrance road to the park is dirt, mud if raining. It was in bad shape and had 3 inches of mud on it because it rained for three days straight, but we didn't have any problems with the road. We loved the park and will return. Lots of fishing and boats on the lake every day. We saw a 4' alligator in the lake, very interesting. Needless to say there is not a swimming area. The bath house could use a make over but it was adequate. We camped at Chilatchee Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: September, 2005 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small US Army COE campground located on Chilatchee Creek, which eventually feeds into the Alabama River. Although the park is on a creek, the water is not moving so it?s more like being on a lake. There are several sites on the small bluff overlooking the water. These sites are concrete and level. Our site was very long, shaded, and private. Some of the sites are just compact gravel. There is no designated swimming area, but that is not a problem as there were several alligators in the water near the campground. The park is approximately 13 miles from Alberta. The closest gas station is several miles away. If you need something, take it with you. Although this campground will certainly handle big rigs, note that the first mile of the entrance road is not paved. Although it is a compact dirt road, two large rigs would have to inch past each other on this road. Once you get close to the park, the entrance is a well paved two lane road. The mosquitoes were particularly bad when we went, so be prepared. If you are looking for a place to relax, do nothing, and enjoy being outdoors, this place fits the bill nicely. Unless you like to fish, then there is plenty to do. There is a nice big playground right near the center of the park and a washer and dryer in the small bathhouse. The park hosts were extremely nice. If you want to go swimming, Miller?s Ferry Park is about a 25 mile drive away, although it is only a few miles down the river from this park. We camped at Chilatchee Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.
