Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

We called a couple of days ahead for a one night reservation with a 50 amp full hookup site at this state park for an early November weekend. The lady on the phone told us we wouldn't need reservations, as they had plenty of space, and did not reserve specific spaces. We arrived shortly after noon on Friday, and found that what we had been told was true. Of the 39 spaces with 50 amp service, only 4 were occupied when we arrived. We were able to select our site from those that were open. We had not been told what the rate was, and were shocked at the $63 price for one night (and this was after taxes, and with the senior discount).

We selected site 176, which was a very long and wide concrete pad with a nice lake view. The hookups were at the back of the pad, and luckily our electric cable was just long enough to reach, without having to break out the extension. A 25' water hose was also just long enough. The sewer connection was also at the back of the pad, and if we had needed to use it, we would have had to connect an extension to reach it.

This section of the campground is new, and there was a notice at the main office that the campground WiFi was unavailable because of the renovations. We have a strong WiFi booster, and found a campground WiFi signal, but even with our booster, it was not strong enough to do simple web searches and email. Cable TV was provided, however there were only a few channels available, and they were quite grainy. It has been raining off and on during our stay, and the local network channels are unavailable more often than not.

Although the parking space is nice and well maintained, the price is much too high for what is available. We will not be coming back for a return visit. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a state park on a lake. Fishing and boating are the primary activities here. Bring a book for other times, as cable and WiFi are not dependable.

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the best state parks that we have visited. We had our pick of sites and chose one that backed up to the lake. Beautiful site and surroundings. There were few neighbors in November. Site and roads are paved and well maintained. Utilities worked well, as expected. Good Verizon and excellent Direct TV. This was our second stay and we would certainly consider spending a month or more during the winter months in the future. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The park is on Lake Martin, one of the best fishing lakes in AL. Russell Sportswear is based in New Alexander. They have an outlet store with some good values.

This is a huge park with hundreds of sites. We chose the new premium sites with 50 amp and full hookups. These sites are on the water with lots of grass between sites. The pad is concrete with picnic table, bbq and room for your vehicle. Lake Martin has over 800 miles of shoreline and is one of the most beautiful lakes we have ever seen. There is a full service marina, fishing piers, numerous ramps and spacious roads. I will stay here again. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to visit Catherine's Market for breakfast or lunch. If you want an upscale dining experience, try Spring House. $$$$

No WiFi except in new section. Lots of camping slots. All are back in. Good family place. Lots of swimming and kids parks available. Very quick service if needed. No sewer hook up next to lake except in new section. One of the best parks I have visited. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Plenty of eating places in Alexander City about 9 miles away. Dollar Tree 2 miles away. Quiet time 10 pm to 8 am.

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Wind Creek State Park is very large park (almost 400 sites) but is peaceful and secluded with large spacious sites. Each site has a fire ring, table and tall pine trees. Many are on the shoreline of Lake Martin. All sites, with the exception of a remodeled section, have asphalt pads and most are level and in good shape. The bathhouse and laundry facilities are kept clean and neat but are somewhat dated.
The remodeled section has 40 sites with a new bathhouse and laundry. The sites have very large concrete pads with fire rings and tables. The only complaint here is that the utilities are all located together at the rear of the pad making the sewer connection a long reach for most RVs.

We stayed here in late September with very few other campers. I imagine it can be a very busy place during the summer months however. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park with lots of waterfront sites. We had a waterfront site with water and electric. They do have full hook-up waterfront sites of you want for additional cost. The roads and pads could use a little work but overall, very quiet and wonderful park. Would stay here again. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Most sites are blacktop, as was ours. They do have some new concrete pads with full hook-up. They are very large but about twice the cost.

We enjoyed this park. Nice lots. When the park is full the power is not as strong as it should be. Had trouble with the breakers flipping during the weekends, but was fine during the week. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is amazing. Great view of the beautiful Lake Martin from practically every campsite. You can rent a boat if you don't have one. Very clean and maintained park. Wish we could have stayed longer. Sites are fairly private. Most have access to the water. Ours had a small beach and we swam in the cool clear water. I would highly recommend this park for an extended family vacation. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of water skiers. Boating, fishing, swimming and relaxing on shore just taking in the beautiful view.

Spent 2 nights at start of weekend. Had a new spot on the point, paved with all utilities. Not a lot of thought went into placement of utilities for the new sites, as all are at far back end of site requiring extremely long hoses or cords for any service locations in forward half of unit. Beautiful setting. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We have had several trips to Wind Creek. On the shores of Lake Martin the views are spectacular. Sites are well spaced although ALL are back-in (no pull-throughs) but they can accommodate most size rigs. Sites are 30amp only but they are renovating a section and upgrading to 50 amp.

Most of the lakeside sites don't have sewer hookups.

The park has a nice marina with a boat ramp (free to campers).

There is a nice sandy beach and a fishing pier.

On holiday weekends, there is usually a band playing near the playground.

While you can pre-book, you can't book a specific site. Sites are allocated on arrival, so if you want lakeside, you need to get there early. It seems most weekends, people bring their rigs Wednesday or Thursday just to bag a lakeside spot and leave them there until the weekend. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lake Martin is awesome. In the summer, water temp gets into the 90's and fishing is among the best in the region. They regularly run competitions from the marina.

We are amazed at the size of this park! Bath houses were very clean. They are renovating 39 sites that will have 50 amp service and water, sewer too! Also they will be lake-front sites! Park is beautiful and lots of boat ramps and areas to keep boats in the water. A beach is on site on the lake and a large marina too! Great place to stay. Our RV is 40' long. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Great camping on Lake Martin! One of the waterfront loops is under construction, but the rest of the park is well kept and has good facilities. Some sites are rather close together, but usually is not crowded. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We had to drive through a storm and arrived very late in the night. At the registration office is instructions for late arrivals but you must pay attention to the note posted up that gives a code to open the gate arm in order to enter the campground. Once we entered, we found Campground B which has large fairly level spaces that you back into. Being November there were very few people staying in the park, perhaps 30-40. The restrooms were spotless. Was very impressed with how they were clean and well maintained. Staff was very pleasant and made sure to invite us back in the future. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice state park. Sites are tight on approach on most loops, and many aren't too level. Loop roads are narrow for backing. Great for walking; about 7 miles from Alexander City. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We are here and it is not crowded, thank goodness. All the sites are paved, but a little narrow. There is no improved patio on any sites, they are grassy or dirt and not level. It could have been a very nice campground with a little forethought on design. We originally signed in for a waterfront site with sewer, but changed to a non waterfront with sewer. Most of the trailers here are older with some permanent types. We most likely would not stay here again, but it's not the worst place we've stayed. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.
