A very nice and large park with endless options of things to do. We took B-19, a very nice end drive-thru that was mostly level and ample room for our road. The park was not full so we had plenty of room. It's just sad to drive miles into the park and then find all the campsites crammed together in one area. It's good for visiting Birmingham but quite a long drive in and out each time. We didn't use the shower or bath facilities. W/E is cheaper than FHU and age 62+ ask for the senior discount. Fri melt staff at the gate and camp store. - MNroadie

This is a large state park with many facilities like golf, archery, BMX, horse stables. Wish we had more time to explore! Used Oak Mountain as an overnite stop, and it was a welcome relief to spend the night in a secluded forest. Highly recommend as a good alternative to chain campgrounds. - Flying Mantis
Oct 2017 - $42.00
We love staying at state parks and this is a typical park built long ago before today's modern rv's. Sites were laid out oddly and not level. We picked up an ant infestation in the rv and dealt with it for a week. Trails are great as is the overall scenery. We'll come back to hike but not to camp. - Paulski

This is an oddly laid out park, probably because it is so hilly. The restrooms and laundry are old and rusty. - mountainfan
Feb 2017 - $27.00
We stayed for the first time at Oak Mountain and were not impressed with our site nor the blaring of radios being played outside as we were trying to relax by the campfire. We stayed at site A5 and were on the road. Literally! I would not recommend this site for anyone with small children. This site is listed as a pull through but it is nothing more than a pull over area. We only saw the park ranger once the entire time we were there. We were very disappointed with the entire experience and will not be back.... - Sharrell

My wife had a doctor's appointment at UAB medical center and we stayed here for three days. The site we had was shaded and level with 30 amp service. We enjoyed our stay but were unable to use our satellite due to the trees surrounding our site. - Fordiesel250

This is a huge wide open field of concrete slabs with a half dozen rusting and sagging ancient mobile homes scattered hither and yon. The park is located in a declining area and approached via a short road past a fenced car lot patrolled by two rottweilers. That would be clue number one. We stayed only long enough to identify an alternate RV park, I did not feel safe nor did I feel safe leaving my RV there. - Ric R
Jan 2011 - $20.00
We read the last review and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, this place is more like the March 2009 review. This is more of a full time trailer park than an RV park. It is very close to the road, has no office or facilities and is in a more run down part of town. If you don't want to stay at Wal-Mart and need an overnight stop with water and sewer, then I would cautiously recommend this place. Our water did not work. - Sherylyn
Jan 2011 - $20.00
We were reluctant to try this park because of the previous review. We are glad we came here anyway. Owner is friendly and apparently has been working VERY hard. Looks like all the spaces have new large concrete pads. Electric connections look new. Sites are large and level.Big-rig w/towing access. Plenty of room. Clean w/no garbage and no homeless and no bums. (we have seen parks like that). The $20 rate is full-hookups w/no discount. Looks like owner has worked hard to clean everything up. We would camp here again. Did not see a sign for park on main road so be careful not to miss it. - petersoldan

As stated elsewhere, a parking lot transformed into a FHU RV lot. A bit pricey for a parking lot, but it was clean, neat and secure. WIFI was strong, but tended to disconnect repeatedly. Convenient landing place to visit Hoover area. Other municipalities would be well served to copy this model. - Uncle Joseph
Mar 2018 - $35.00
Parking lot at stadium all asphalt. Well lit at night. Cable offered. Only 4 channels. We chose air and got 58 channels. Just passing through so stayed only one night. Great place - Wanda Page
Dec 2017 - $45.00
We did get the Holiday special which was 700.00 for the month. Which is no special for a parking lot. We stayed back in the summer and the WiFi was very good and water pressure wasn't as bad as it is now. The WiFi has been shut way down and what you do get is very slow. And the water pressure is very low. You cant flush and wash hands at same time. RVers understand how to do that. We use to come here very regular but we are done. Can't afford this and for a parking lot no facilities except hook ups. No laundry no pool no bathhouse. I think Hoover should be ashamed of them selves for charging these prices . Spaces aren't big enough for RV and tow. The tow has to be parked in another space if available. So you park in the driving row. - Sheltie Dad

Office was very good to move my reservation and accommodate me when I had to adjust because of weather up north. Sites were fine. Park seemed clean. There was little high way noise, but there was an occasional train that was close. I would stay there again. - simsfmly
Mar 2018 - $43.00
Old KOA site taken over 15 years ago. Clean but needs to be refurbished as the pads are crumbling and not to level. About 40% of sites are FT. Cable is all fuzz but good H2O pressure. Stay 5 nights while we played the RTJ golf trail. Ross Bridge & Oxmoor Valle Ridge. Close to many services. - Lonewolftx
Mar 2018 - $43.00
Stayed here two nights while visiting the area. Only reserve for the number of nights you wish to stay there are no refunds for early departures. This park is off the highway but there are train tracks nearby. While staying at this park there was an outbreak of severe thunderstorms/tornado. The office staff told us where to go if we felt unsafe in the RV. The cable TV was very good and local channels kept us informed. Our site was level and had a concrete patio and picnic table. We did not use any of the facilities. - SoonerMom

Apr 2017 - $30.00
This park is primarily for permanent residents in mobile homes or rvs. Access to our site was difficult because it slopped off the road and required backing over a drainage trough. The site had a level concrete pad designed to be used as a patio, but we had to use it to park on as the adjacent area for the motorhome was severely rutted gravel. It would have been difficult to impossible to level there. Nonetheless it was a pleasant rural area to be in. Staff is friendly and helpful. No wifi yet through out the park. Owners have purchased the equipment and are waiting for the installers to set it up. An adequate place for a brief stay to visit the historic sights Birmingham has to offer. - Roger H.
Mar 2017 - $27.00
Very Nice Staff. We stayed on short notice with our HDT and 45 foot 5th wheel. The staff worked hard to find a place for us. The other reviews are correct that the office / clubhouse is in the convenience store /strip mall and the storm gutters are deep. The campground was a mobile home park and seems to be transitioning into a mixed-use park. The campground roads are two lanes in width and paved, as you'd expect for a mobile home park and there are very few low branches. All the sites we saw are back-in and large. The water pressure, electric, and over the air TV are good; our Verizon internet was fair to poor. Understand that the park has Wifi, pool table and kitchen facilities at the clubhouse, but we did not visit it. There are swings for kids. The site we stayed in was loose gravel and rutted under our weight. However, there is a concrete patio and pavement partially into the site area to park on. The park is about 20 minutes from the downtown medical centers. - Behemoth

Owners were very friendly and seemed to work hard to keep the park clean. This park does seem more like a trailer court with mostly permanent renters. - deechurch
Feb 2017 - $15.00
Tired old campground, badly in need of a sprucing up. However, the setting is lovely, with mature trees throughout the campground and a pretty lake adjacent. Using an address of 11 Austin Road, Helena AL worked better than the County Road 93 address in my GPS. Unless you like backing up, don't drive up to the office. There is no turnaround. Park on Austin Road. - Gord0
Aug 2016 - $15.00
Very nice people that owned it but it was in dire need of repairs. I was escorted & guided into my back in site up this hill that backed up to the edge of the cliff above the lower tier of Rv's. The electric panel had loose wires dangling & the receptacle for the 30 amp fell out when I plugged in. The power worked but it was a hazard that I pointed it out after I hooked up & was told "yeah it looks like it needs to be fixed , some of these campers just yank on the plugs when they leave". Whatever! also the sewer hose went into the ground which had a piece of rotted plywood covering so the flies were everywhere & it was odorous. Lastly was the screaming kids & neighbors that had their dogs running loose which had gotten into a nasty fight & I believe one of the dogs got injured badly, Pit bulls by the way. - Robert9999

The most difficult part is getting To the park down small country roads. Once there you'll find a fine little city park with recreation areas, ball fields, creek with fish and a rope swing and enough bike trails to make anyone happy. Camp 'sites' are not really designated but rather areas in the wooded area behind the ball fields to pull into, in what ever manner you wish to reach the hookups and miss the trees. If you call for a 'reservation' you will probably talk to the city mayor - who runs the canoe company at the front of this city park. WiFi was Excellent, I never did find the laundry, there are no 'facilities' (I'd rather use my own bathroom anyway) and grocery and fuel are a 10-15 minute drive to the new Walmart. TV reception was good but I had no t-mobile or AT&T phone service. We stayed more than one night and were able to 'negotiate' a rate of 5/$80. I really liked the park setting of this campground even if getting here was a challenge. Small country roads would Not be feasible for a really big rig, but Most motorhomes and trailers will like it once they get here and be in a good location for visiting the Birmingham area. - SailorGolf

Jun 2017 - $32.00
This is a city campground. It was not busy during our stay, as there was a storm in the area and not many people camping. Easy off and on I-65 and good shopping near by. Our site was next to the office. - A hitch and hop
Sep 2016 - $32.00
Office manager not around, and when she is, seems put out for having to do her job. After 5 must trust a box with your cash or piece of paper with credit info!
Sites are narrow and woefully unlevel, and outdated for today's RVs. Sewer smells abound due to broken lines and caps. - Private Eye
Nov 2015 - $28.00
We were planning to stay 2 weeks but then called to go elsewhere for work, so only stayed 1 night. Teresa was super friendly, park was rustic but good walking path and lots of geese and ducks. Restrooms and laundry area needed a little work but were fine for use. Very hilly park but that was good since there was no pooling of water from rain. We would definitely stay again pending work area assigned. - witchey1

Mar 2018 - $21.00
This is a busy, family oriented campground with a lot going on all the time. There is a small train for the kids with a very loud engine that runs during the day. Lots of kids on bikes. Sites are pretty close together. One huge negative for us is that it's not big rig friendly. Not for class A diesel pushers anyway. If you get assigned a site in campground 3, it's on the other side of a small bridge with weight restrictions. Our coach at 36,000 pounds was too heavy to cross. We ended up at a makeshift campsite with only 30A power. It worked for the one night we needed. Interior roads are pretty tight as well. Verizon signal was one bar. - RoadtripImages dot com
Mar 2018 - $21.00
Hard park to rate. The historical part is spectacular. The park itself and the tree cover is beautiful. Lovely streams flow through the park and between camping loops. Many other reviews go into good detail on park activities and the historical aspect so I won't repeat. The downside for me was the campground part. I can't imagine camping here on a busy weekend and in a full park. Many of the back-in sites in the third loop have absolutely no buffer between sites. No room for fire rings. Picnic tables are small and sometimes oddly placed. Longer RVs will be challenged to find a spot, especially for their tow vehicle or toad, too, unless they luck into a pull-through site. Campground loop road pitted in spots, so drive nice and slow. First-come, first-served, so arrive early if you can. Over-the-air TV signal good; Verizon signal slow.
Only a few miles from I-20 south of Birmingham, but very windy 2-lane road to get there. Even longer windy road if you take the exit off of the B'ham beltway. It's doable, but take it slow. - aowcarol
Mar 2018 - $21.00
Huge park with great museum about the ironworks. No reservations taken. We arrived and found out it was spring break and the park was packed! RVs very close in full hookup area. We were directed to Lot 3 and found a pull through-where the spots are nearby but not as close as in other areas. As a first time camper to this park, direction signs within the campground repainted and at checkin an information sheet of hiking trails , times miniature train and ice cream shop operate would be helpful. Checkin person said "things are crazy here". - sp123
