we stayed in 45. it was unleveled but no big deal . the park was very nice and clean. it has a lot of things to do on the water. a lot of trees and a good fire ring. the only complaint I have is there was no Verizon or att service where we were. there maybe other places in the campground that has service. I would recommend staying there. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Our first trip in the travel trailer. We stayed this past weekend with 3 kids. They said we should come back and that's usually a good sign. We had site 24, across from bath/shower facilities. This came in handy so the kids were not in and out of the trailer. Had full hook ups. It has a beach area with roped of swimming. Paddle boats, boat ramp, playground. No cell service with Verizon but not a problem as it was good to disconnect everyone and have family time. The park ranger drove around several times and also let us know of a storm coming it as to be aware. There was a deck on our site with a nice big table, which I liked because we had space to set our chairs. Plenty of Shade through out park. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This park has so much potential its such a shame to see it seemingly so neglected by Alabama State Parks. It's being slowly updated (adding 50A and sewer to sites); but many of the sites are tiny and extremely un-level. Our site was paved and barely wider than the camper - stepping out the front door and you were stepping into the park road. The level left to right was off by a full 6". Driving around I saw several sites that were on such a steep hill a 5th wheel camper had the nose almost on the ground and the wheels a good 8-10" on blocks to get level. Check in and reservations are confusing. You have to pay to reserve a spot, but you are only guaranteed a spot, not a particular site. So even with a reservation and arriving mid-week; if someone else decided to extend their stay or just showed up with no reservation 5 min before you they can get the prime spot and you're stuck with the leftovers. Check in after hours was confusing as the after-hours info is on the back side of the booth and not visible as you enter. The only instruction plaque has a number to call for after hours assistance, but there is almost zero cell reception around the park. With proximity to Tuscaloosa for University of Alabama games, great beach and mountain biking trails, this park has a lot of potential. It's too bad to see it fall so short. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The park had four loops several with lake views. The roads around the campground were in bad shape. Many of the pads were also in bad shape, but most of them were level. Some of the pull throughs were barely off the road. A lot of the sites had split utilities with water on one side and power on the other. It made finding a site rather hard. Most all sites had sewer, but some were hard to get to. We even saw one camper having to use four sewer hoses to connect. The trails were well maintained, and very well marked. There was a nice beach, playground and picnic area. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Bath houses are older and in need of some remodeling, but adequate. Nice campsites, open, and of variable dimensions. Some sites very close together. Some degree of leveling will be required. The nicest thing at the park is the lake for canoeing and the 25 miles of very nice hiking and biking trails that surround the lake. There is a beach at the park, canoe, and peddle boat rentals. Good birding and views across the lake. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Canoe to the other side of the lake and pickup the trail loops on the other side for a secluded hike. Bring a bike and try any number of trail combinations or biking the paved roads. Fishermen talking of reaching creel limits on crappie.

This is the place to unplug from the world. No cell service, internet, or wifi. No local TV channels except the weather radar, a sports channel, and one that shows old movies; none of the networks can be seen here. We have ATT cell and Verizon hotspot and both were mostly useless no matter indoors or out, moved around the camp etc. Satellite TV worked fine. The park needs an update-50 amp, repaved roads etc. A camp host told us wifi is in the works but is behind schedule. Some sites on a slope. Limited sewer sites. Limited spaces for large rigs-scout your choices before pulling the rig in. The lake is beautiful. It was too cold to enjoy but there is a beach area, canoe and paddleboat rentals, fishing etc. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Motorhome.

Our site overlooked the lake. Beautiful! Hiking, swimming, biking, bird watching, etc. Nice deck, off this site, over the lake. Definitely worth a stay! Up on a hill yet very close to town. Tons of trees, unfortunately that was probably why we couldn't get cell or internet. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had a pull through site right next to the lake. We had a picnic table, and full hookups. The parking pad was very level. There was plenty of room, neighbors were not right on top of us. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Lurleen is a beautiful State Park just outside Tuscaloosa/Northport Alabama. The park, like most Alabama State Parks, needs updating and refreshed. The sites are generally cracking alphalt with varying degrees of levelness. We stayed at a site in Section A directly on the water. The site was deteriorating due to water run-off around the edges. It was a back-in and accommodated our 35' C-Class OK. Anything bigger would have the front bumper near the road. The park offers several fishing piers, paddle boats and jon boat rentals. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Motorhome.

An excellent place to camp with pull-through sites with great water views. Check in was very easy, roads paved and well maintained, and staff was most helpful. Our site was level and quite suitable for a handicapped person. Park was quiet and peaceful; no cell service or WiFi; no satellite or TV. This is definitely a place to "get away from it all." We camped here overnight. Rate reflects discount for veteran. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Motorhome.

We camped here and attended MSU / AL baseball in Tuscaloosa. We found this to be a convenient location for that. Some sites require blocks to level. The biggest negative feature we found was the dump station is not close to the exit. You have to go toward the back to dump. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sites 33, 35, 37, & 39 have decks overlooking the lake & its beautiful surroundings. Park staff were exceeding welcoming, friendly, & helpful. 30 amp electricity is as high as it gets. AT&T cell phone reception is spotty. Daily rate reflects senior discount of 15%. Hookups were a stretch & on the wrong side. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Typical State Park, we had a waterfront site in loop B. Nice site, but as other posters stated the hookups are on the opposite side of RV. We didn't really care for the set up (not what we're used to) you pull in and the road for other sites is directly alongside your site, so any RV coming in (at least in Loop A and B) they drive right by your slides. Little unnerving for us. Other sites in C and D were back in, but some are water electric only. We had some electric issues our last 2 days there, our surge protector keep flashing "CAUTION LOW VOLTAGE". Needs to be updated, but typical of a State facility in this day and age. Would we stay here again? Only if we had to while passing through. The rate reflects a weekly rate in off season. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We had a beautiful, quiet spot on a lake. There is no obtrusive lighting. Verizon phone and air-card both worked. We have a 40 foot motorhome and had no problems pulling into one of the pull through sites. This park has hiking trails and is a great spot for one night with easy access. We checked in and paid. We drove through the two open loops twice and walked most of the campground trying to find a site that our 35' fifth wheel would fit without luck. Not only are the sites short but are very unlevel and rough, broken asphalt. The electric hookups look very old. We decided our best course of action was to leave and move on. They refunded our money and we drove on. This campground was built in the 1950s and appears to have had very little if any improvements since. Perhaps if you have a smaller rig, it would work for you. It's in a very pretty area but needs some work. We camped at Lake Lurleen State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
