The Happy Camper gave an excellent write of this camp. I sure learned a lot for him/her. We were able to have a campfire on our site in the provided fire ring which was real nice. We are not on top of one another which is a real plus to. The Camp Host, was very nice and went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our site. Have the river here is lovely. Demopolis AL is nine miles south and has any amenities you may need. I would love to come back again. We camped at Forkland Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This mixed sun and shade hardwood forested campground is located along the bluffs of McConnico and Taylor Creeks, which are meanders of the Tombigbee River. Although there is no barge traffic, power boats contribute some noise. Campsites are located about 15 to 20 feet above the creeks, making for a fairly nice view of the water. Sites 3 - 32 are all waterfront or waterview. Sites 11 and 12 are pull-throughs, but are also directly across from the dual direction dump station and bath house. Site 21 was the crown jewel of the sites. Nice for sunsets and as a lookout for inbound tornadoes. Sites 5 and 6, as well as 31 and 32, are shared family sites. Spacing between sites is anywhere from 35 to 80 feet. With only a few exceptions, there is no vegetation between sites. Sites themselves are mostly large to downright spacious with large aluminum picnic tables, living areas, fire rings, and lantern posts. There is an older "overflow" loop (sites 33 - 42) which is fully wooded, quiet, a bit nostalgic (all fine gravel with concrete picnic tables), and private, but with no water view. Unlike paved sites 1-32 which have 50/30 amp/water, the overflow is all pull through fine gravel sites with 30 amp and water only. Site 42 in overflow was particularly nice and private. The one shower house is modern and well kept, and includes a coin laundry. Hosts are all business with a smile. Some Corps rules are loosely enforced or not enforced at all (pets off leashes, cars and trailers parked on grass, RV storage, etc.). Strong OTA TV reception from PBS, but CBS and ABC from Montgomery were in and out, and there was no NBC or FOX. Sprint phone was 1 to 3 bar for voice (consistent), but erratic 3G/1x for data. Bring supplies and fuel, nothing in Forkland. Railroad crossing on the road to the CG is active, respect the STOP sign. Overall, a nice, quiet campground, and a good place to relax. We camped at Forkland Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Downtown Demopolis has some redevelopment, but also has many vacant store fronts or offices. A couple of lunch places, coffee shops, and gifts. Has a museum, but was closed when we visited. Sidewalks have no pedestrian signals and narrow ramps, and some treacherous water meter holes. Great area for fishing and river boating.

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet and secluded campground. Hosts were friendly. Campground is well maintained and clean.

TV reception over the air was extremely limited. Cell phone service was One Bar (Verizon).

Has nature trail, boat ramp, and wooden stairs that provide access from the campground to McConnico Creek. The creek leads to the Tombigbee River.

Plenty of birds for those who enjoy bird watching and photography. Saw Bluebirds, Wood Peckers, Snowy Egrets, Great Blue Heron, and many more. Heard Turkeys when walking the nature trail. We camped at Forkland Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

We had a back-in site with plenty of room for our 43' bus and car. Driveways are curving, but adequate width. The campground is several miles off the highway in a wooded area on the Tombigbee River so it is very quiet and peaceful. We had electrical and water hookups, but no sewer (deducted one star), so we opted to stay only four days and move on. There are walking trails around the park. Will definitely come back again if we are ever in the area and the next time I will be prepared to fish! We camped at Forkland Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has two sections, an older 30 amp and water that has large well appointed sites set back from the shore with fine gravel and cement pads. They are $11/night regular, half off with the senior pass. The sites on the river are all huge, cement pads with 50amp electric and water on a steep high bank overlooking the water. Most of the sites also have their own wooden staircase down to the water with a boat tie up provided and all have picnic tables. We used our stairway to launch our canoe. At the entrance to the campground is a marina so many people were launching their larger boats there and then tying them up at their campsite during their stay. Many were fishing right beside their campsite. The place is forested and lovely with abundant wildlife. The roads are wide and were easily navigable for our rig. The dump station is a double one so no waiting. Fisherman's paradise. We absolutely loved it here and we will be back. We camped at Forkland Campground in a Travel Trailer.
