I had to call over 5 times to get a person on the phone to answer questions. I left a message but no one returned my call. Every site we saw had bits of trash on it. The washrooms and showers were disgusting! On the up side, it's a pretty park on the river with a lot to do in the Florence area. Scope out sites before choosing. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here for two nights in a "pull-thru". This park is city operated & has a few issues. The entrance off of hwy. 20 is nice and wide and remains easily navigable all the way back to where the rv section is. After passing thru the gate, you will encounter the entrance, which is a very acute 90 degree right turn, followed by an acute 90 degree left turn. We decided to pull just passed the entrance, over to the side & disconnect the tow. We are in a 42 ft. class A and I don't think we would be able to make the tight turns connected. The other issue is the straight 90 degree pull-thrus that are a bit of a challenge to turn in to. If you are a seasoned driver of a class A, you should be able to manage all of the turns, just go slow & take it easy. On the plus side, the utilities worked well and the view of the Tennessee River is pretty cool. Walked over in the evening with beverage & chair on the bank & watched the boat traffic. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Roads: Paved and easy to get around on. Sites WES 20,30,50 amp. Sites were paved with picnic tables. Our site was well shaded by choice and was plenty long enough for the coach and the toad. Sites were spacious. If you want sites out of the shade those are available too. It is now 1st come 1st served and it was filling up fast as the weekend got there. We pulled in on a Tuesday and had no problem getting a site. By the weekend the place was full. Bathrooms and showers were clean until the weekend hit. They may have been cleaned in the morning but but by the time evening rolled around they needed shoveling out again. The showers are push button with vaguely warmish water and lots of pressure that blast into the area where your cloths are. They are adequate for getting clean but barely. For being so close to town the park was very quiet with a great view of the river. If you like hammocks they have a whole forest that seems like it was specifically designed for them. We pulled in from the Natchez Trace and were able to explore the Trace and many other attractions in the area. We'd stay here again if we're in the area. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Wow - what a great place! We weren't expecting much out of a county park, but McFarland was wonderful. It would qualify as a state park anywhere else. Right on the Tennessee River with acres of open fields and shady picnic spots. A marina, restaurant, and visitor center are on the property. FHU were available under mature pine trees with deep shade. Other sites were out in the open with full sun. The river looks too fast and deep for swimming, but it's a fabulous view. Historic downtown is only a few blocks away on the bluffs with lots of restaurant choices and lively in the evenings. Campground is off Route 20 from the Natchez Trace Parkway. In April 2017 the main bridge from Florence to Mussel Shoals (Rt 43) was closed to RVs due to construction. The detours confused us, and turned out not to be nessesary - McFarland Park is right before the bridge heading east on Rt 20, so no need to detour. Quiet and safe to walk around at night, campground is gated at dark. They didn't have a working credit card machine the week we were there, so you might want to come prepared with cash. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

This was my favorite campground on our Georgia to California trip. Love the location right on the river, with cliffs on the other side. Enjoyed the barges on the river. Northern Alabama is a beautiful place. Very quiet and well maintained park here. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

We read the reviews on RVPR and thought this would be a good stop on our way North. We were very surprised when we arrived. The sites are paved and have full hookups, so that is good. Some are under tall pines, others are not, but don't offer any privacy but will block satellites. We opted for one not under the trees and selected a back in closest to the river, one of two available. The pad is fairly wide, but there is a concrete picnic table on it, we were pretty close to the edge of the pad and we couldn't walk between the table and the slide.

When we were setting up a neighbor let us know that we should make sure our bicycles on the back of our RV were locked up, since people going to the fishing pier drive behind us at all hours. We had to be careful our bikes didn't stick out in the road, but we didn't have any problems with anyone messing with them.

The road in the campground is narrow and a little bumpy. The lots at the back seemed smaller, there were several where we wouldn't be able to park our truck, but I think our 5er would fit in most of them.

My husband is a senior and we paid $25/night, the sign said $20/night for seniors. He questioned the lady checking us in and she said we were getting the senior rate. For various reasons, we decided to leave a day early. We were told that we wouldn't get our money back, and that was fine. Our neighbors wanted the site for his father-in-law and offered to pay for the night we already paid for. They come here often and when he paid us he gave us $20. I have the feeling we were taken by the nice lady in the office.

The location is great, very convenient to historic Florence and it restaurants. Drive a bit further and there are numerous big box stores and chain restaurants. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

2016 - Be aware that the bridge closest to the park restricts trucks and RV's at the moment. Construction has lane width limited to 10' and RV's are directed to the new bridge to the east.

Park does not accept reservations but when I called the office the woman said call back just before you get here. We decided to drive to the park anyway and found a site one row off the water. Was interesting watching the barges up and down the river, lots to see and do in the area. Park was clean, sites were not at all close as in previous review, been to others with less space. Reason I did not give this park an excellent review was for the no reservations and the water/sewer connections were a stretch. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

This was our second visit to this campground. It is a city/county owned campground on the banks of the Tennessee River. It is part of a park which has a marina & boat ramp as well as a small beach area. The campground has pull-through and backin sites. There are no reservations but is first-come availability. We had no problems in our 43 ft. Motorhome and will return when in the area. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground is a great value- beautiful surroundings on the Tennessee River for less than $20 per night. We called ahead to make sure they had open spots (correct number is 256-740-8817) and selected a nice pull through site among the tall pines when we got there. There is a mixture of pull through and back in sites, nearly all sites would have accommodated our 36' motorhome. Plenty of space to hook/unhook dinghy just before the entrance. Sites on the far (newer) end of the park had no shade trees. There are no advance reservations so you pull into a site and go pay for it. They don't take credit cards so plan ahead for that. Got 4 local channels via antenna. Posted as no alcohol allowed in park and noted that adult beverages can only be consumed outside at your site very discreetly (in cup or a koozie). The local police do patrol the park several times per day. We didn't use the restrooms/showers but when we walked by them they didn't smell the "freshest" however it was 90+ degrees the week we were there...we would definitely stay here again. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The quad cities, called The Schoals, have a rich history in the music industry. Lots to do and see in the area related to music. There is a marina with boat rentals and fishing at the park entrance also a great restaurant. Park also has a swimming beach, places to bike ride, fish and disc golf.

This is our second stay here. You can't beat its location right on the Tennessee River and very close to all of Florence's amenities. But I disagree with other review about "spacious" sites. Most sites, in our view, are narrow with little room to set up chairs, etc. The back in sites are left side back-ins so your "patio" area is exposed to the passing traffic. But backing in is easier! Nevertheless, we like this campground and the host was very pleasant! No wifi, good satellite TV if located on the western edge of the campground. Read August 2014's review of a very accurate description of the park. My review and the rating is based on the horrendous bathrooms! The men's commode seat is so bad, it is flaking. Multiple fragments of bars of soap remain in the soap dish. The wife and I refused to use their bathroom or shower. Fortunately, we had our own. If you do not have a bathroom, just know they only have one toilet and urinal in one bathhouse (men's side). The park is absolutely beautiful! But if we did not have our own RV bathroom, we would not stay at this park for that single reason. We have stayed at many COE,State and other parks and this is by far the worst bathroom facility we have witnessed in a campground to be "governement" operated and maintained. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a really nice park, the sites are large and roomy and all seem to be paved. There are concrete picnic tables at every site. The grass is kept mowed. It's right on the Tennessee River so you can watch the boat traffic. It is a city maintained park, there is a marina and a small beach nearby. They do have showers and restrooms...the showers are pushbutton and the temp is not adjustable. Now for the bad part. The women's rest room and showers were NOT clean. There were old bars of soap melting in the soap dishes, crud on the benches, and I don't know what all on the floors. We were there Sunday afternoon thru Wednesday morning, and it was when we were loading up to leave did we see someone there to clean. It may just have been a one-time thing...the rest of the park was real nice. We would still go back, just use our own shower. We camped at McFarland Park Campground in a Truck Camper.
