This is a great State Park. Our site was a back in which was plenty long enough for our 40 ft. coach and toad. Site was a paved level site with a patio. Each site has a picnic table and grill. Sites are large with trees and plants between sites. Hook ups worked great, check in was easy with cheerful people. Lots of walking trails inside park, you also get a pass to the state fishing peer. Lots of great eating in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Wow! This is what a park should be. Long, level, paved, back in site, with good separation and all hook-ups easily accessible. An asphalt patio with a grill and table. All facilities nearly new and sparkling clean. A laundry room to beat all others we have seen. A nice little camp store. A huge park, so bring your bicycles. Beach is only 1 1/2 miles away and you get a free pass to a long pier. Many restaurants and stores nearby. All kinds of camping available from primitive to cabins. Nearby history at Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines (after a ferry ride). While a little pricey, you get more than your pay for. Only downer was a elderly, grumpy lady at check-in, but she was just at the end of a busy day, so easy to overlook. Friendly campers. Gladly stay again. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of February till early March. We were in a pull through site which was spacious with an asphalt pad. It is convenient to the beach and gulf shore/orange beach area attractions.

It is a large park with plenty of hiking/biking trails and amenities. The laundry facilities and camp store were both very nice and has a pier area on the lake. Speaking of piers you get a pass to the ocean pier which we used several times, it is fun to walk out and see the pelicans and people fishing. Did a lot of biking here and there is plenty of paved roads and dirt/sand roads for mountain bikes. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

For a local joint Doc's in Orange Beach is the place. For a larger restaurant we enjoyed Acme Oyster House in Gulf Shores and don't forget Lambert's (home of the throwed roll) in Foley.

We stayed here for 3 months
Very nice park with lots of amenities
We enjoyed the biking and hiking trails
Beach was close by
Close to everything we needed
Really enjoyed the random jam sessions at various campsites that we would come across while biking through the park
We were always invited to stay awhile and join in if we played

We will return asap. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is our first time here.

I know the rates have gone up but given the cost of rebuilding the park as well as the general lack of funding afforded by the legislature the increase seems warranted.

I work each day so I as not able to participate in the activities presented here but the SO was and she enjoyed them. I guess once the snowbirds flock in the activities will be expanded.

The site was a pull through on the canal and was excellent. It was level and roomy for our 40' rig and toad. It is Ashpalt with a patio (cement I think).

It was a stretch to the sewer but my sewer extension made it no problem. Each site has a table and a charcoal grill it seems.

Showers and bathrooms were clean, fully functional and well located.

It would be nice to have a little cafe on site and there was a questionnaire distributed about that.

The weather was not great. We stayed 15 days and 3 out of every 5 had rain with some pretty strong rain and wind. However, that is not the campground's responsibility and we still enjoyed the stay. We did get to play golf at the State Park course which is a nice course and reasonably priced for Seniors.

All the people - workers and fellow RVers were very friendly.

This is definitely on our list of parks to stay - but maybe Feb-March rather than December. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Pretty much anything we needed was within a short drive. A place called Fora-Bama had a Christmas Potluck (free - bring a dish). We went and it was very good.

Apparently the place (which is quite a complex) has a number of such activities on a routine basis.

Also tried the Shrimp Shack as recommended by another reviewer (went there twice).

RV cement site was very spacious with pull thru, picnic table, and grill. Surrounded with plants, some grass, and lots of birds. Not too close to other sites. A lot of showers/restrooms conveniently located that were very clean. And warm on those chilly mornings! I love this park! They have guided nature walks on trails and to the pier. They have a nice little museum that shows nature movies and other 'oldies' movies at least one day a week. The laundry room is spacious with a nice covered patio area you can sit under while waiting. They also had different weekly functions in the activity building: each week those campers who are talented musicians or singers gave a little 'concert'. The pool is very large but I didn't use. We were there 2 weeks. Just wish the weather had been nicer. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Check-in was very quick. We asked to move our assigned spot from next to restrooms to a more secluded area and permission was granted. Sites are large but many are loaded with red ants and sand spurs. We could not walk dogs on grass because of sand spurs getting in their paws. Park is very close to pier and Orange beach. Pool closed on Nov. 1, which was disappointing since the temps remained in the mid 80's. We would not return only because of ants and sand spurs. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Be prepared to be surprised about the rates this year. As of Nov 1 the rates have increase 8% plus now they tack on also a resort fee of $7/night, $35/week and $70/month on top of the 8% increase. They don't have wifi anymore, I was told that they had too many problems with it so they are not going to have it anymore. The park and bathrooms are still very clean. The grass at the campsites needed cutting. My nightly rate was based on a weekly rate. This park does have excellent bike trails. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Park was nice , sites are large and not too tight , showers clean etc. No Wi-Fi and no explanation other than it was down. TV reception was good, lots of local channels available.

We had a good stay although I thought $40 per night was a little pricey . Lots of sites had shady areas , we'll probably stay here again. It's close to town and easy to find. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Golf course is nearby as are the zip lines

5 minutes drive to the beach. All paved roads and slots. Cleaning up weed type trees that came in from the hurricane years ago and lost a lot of trees from fire several years ago, but still lots of space between slots. Lots of great trails and great for bike riding. Close to town and shopping/food but still feel away from it all. Full hook ups. Love this place. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Ask at the office for food recommendations. Locals always know.

Stayed four nights at Gulf State Park campground, as we love to ride the trails near the park. We have stayed here for a few nights each year for the past five years. We have become somewhat disappointed with this park because they do not enforce some of their own rules. It clearly states that only two vehicles and eight people are allowed per site and no parking on the grass. The site we were on, Live Oak Waterfront, didn't have enough grass around it for our dog to find a place to do her business. We noticed one site close to us that had five vehicles parked with 4 of the 5 on the grass. On this stay we noticed that many people with pets do not pick up their pets waste. We had to pick up four piles around our site when we arrived, very dissapointing. We will continue to visit GS Park in the future but only for a few nights. If they would just enforce their own rules the appearance of the park would be much better. Sounds like they are going to start allowing site specific reservations one year out. For the experienced people that know how to work the system, it will be very difficult to get a site you like. I still think reservations on a specific road then first come when you arrive is the most fair system. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

As with most state parks in Alabama this park is excellent. We had a site on the big lake and the view was beautiful. Because of the landscaping we could not see the site next to us, so good privacy. Our site was not shady but the weather was cool so it didn't matter. DirecTV signal was easy to acquire but we could not pick up the WiFi. We are looking forward to returning. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is our FAVORITE RV park. Super clean, wonderful pool, lots of hiking trails, all paved, close to everything!! We LOVE this place. There's no Wi-Fi, but we take our own "hotspot". You can get your basic TV channels with a decent antenna. Easy to get into. There is little to no shade; Hurricane Katrina wiped out most of the tall trees. They've done a great job of replanting, but it's gonna take time for the trees to grow! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Haven't camped here in many years. It ashamed to see what the hurricane did here years ago. It will take many years for this park to get it's vegetation back to the level it once was. never-the-less, this is a large, well run park. Lots of sites available, unlike the middle of summer when the kids are out of school. The CG is about half full. It's hard to find a shady spot. Most are in the sun most of the day. WiFi is available, and the WiFi antennas are prevalent in the park, good signal coverage, but I could never get any device to connect.
All sites are paved and level. Some have stand up grills. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of good seafood around here. The Shrimp Basket is my favorite for reasonably priced seafood.

This Alabama State Park has a much to offer; biking, hiking, large pool, golf, gulf fishing pier, beautiful beaches and more. It is a BIG park with spacious level sites. Interior roads and sites are paved. Each site has a large (20x20) paved patio, ample room for parking and full hookups. No cable or wifi. The park get used heavily year round but is well maintained. It does not have a "new" look but you can see the staff's pride of ownership in it's condition. A job very well done for a park this size and used so much. The hurricanes have taken a toll here, so don't expect shady sites. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.
