Overall Rating:

A beautiful state park which has 468 back in and pull through sites. All sites are FHU, asphalt, level, with a picnic table and grill (no fire ring). We stayed in site 269, a spacious back in site on Rabbit Road which I highly recommend. Raccoon Road is the main road coming in/out of the campground, so the sites on this road will get constant car traffic and zero privacy (the sites towards the end 440-468 have less traffic/noise). Also, some sites back up to hiking/biking/walking trails giving them less privacy, so keep that in mind when booking. The waterfront sites are nice, but we did see standing water on some of the sites after it rained. Utilities worked well and water pressure was good. No cable, but we were able to get about 40 OTA channels and had excellent Verizon signal. The park has a lot of amenities including a large swimming pool (not heated), splash pad for kids, tennis courts, volleyball, horseshoes, and miles of fantastic hiking/walking/biking trails. They also have a very nice laundromat on site, nature center, and campground store (prepare yourself for sticker shock!). The dumpster was located near the front of the park so you had to either bike or drive your car to empty your trash. The previous occupants of our site left their trash for us to deal with (full of red ants, mind you!). A fair amount of noise from the overhead planes, but nothing that bothered us. Bathrooms/showers were large and spotlessly clean every day. The park gives you a pass to Gulf State Pier and is valid for the length of your stay. You can walk or bike to it directly from the campground, but it's a hike to get there (and we did see a large snake on the path). They are building another pavilion and restaurant this year that you will be able to walk/bike to as well. Nightly rate is $37, but with all the taxes and fees comes to $47 per night. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are two Walmarts within 5 miles. Lots of dining and shopping nearby. We had dinner at Cobalt's at the base of the bridge and weren't disappointed. They also have a Sunday brunch also that begins at 10:30 a.m.

We had reservations for Monday through Thursday nights but when the weather turned extremely cold (for the Gulf Coast) we called and were allowed to come in a night early. The reservations and check in staff were very friendly and helpful, but the real gems at the park are the park naturalist and her staff. They took us on a fantastic First Day Hike to see the bald eagles in the park and provided daily educational sessions at the Nature Center. Our last visit to GSP was in 2013 and many improvements have been made since then, especially in hiking/biking trails and boardwalks. Unfortunately, the weather was too cold to make full use of the trails. We hope to return again soon. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Literally one of the best State Parks in the US. Large level sites with a lot of space between each one. Clean restroom facilities that appear to be rarely used (saw one other person in the shower area in my 7 night stay, despite the park being full). Large laundry room that is open 24/7. Miles and miles of well-maintained hiking and biking trails. Close to the beach and even has a dog park nearby! Note that the camping price does not include 11% lodging tax and a 15% resort fee. A couple minor gripes: A lot of the utility pedestals are located in the middle of the sites. Unless you have extra long hoses and cords, you may find yourself parking closer to the front of the site, limiting the room for your toad. No garbage bins aside from the main dump near the office. Because of this, you'll experience dog owners who either think it's okay to throw the poop into the can inside of the bathroom, or just flat out won't pick it up as they don't want to be bothered carrying it back. This is especially prevalent on the trails, so watch your step! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Huge state park including a golf course, nature center and a long pier into the ocean. Approximately 500 camp sites, easily accessible and many that can accommodate our 41 foot fifth wheel. Many campers are long term and seasonal snowbirds and reserve a year in advance. Park boasts of many miles of trails. Unfortunately most are not in easy access by walking. A bicycle is almost a must and can be rented. There is considerable local advice and warnings about alligator and snake activity in the park. Many park sponsored activities. Nice laundry facility, however expensive. Many wifi antennas observed but apparently not functional. Only wifi access was noted to be in golf clubhouse. Very touristy area with 10 percent sales tax. We will probably not return as this was not a peaceful or private campground to relax in. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We spent ten nights at Gulf State Park in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground is very large but is just a small portion of this huge state park. We stayed in one of the pull-through sites along Raccoon Rd. The site was a very long and level asphalt curve with a large patio in the middle. There was more than enough room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Although our site was centrally located, we would probably not stay on Raccoon Rd. in the future due to noise from the road traffic. The hookups at the site were very good and located conveniently. There are numerous amenities in the park, too many to mention. The laundry room is the size of a commercial laundromat. The beach pavilion and fishing pier are across the road from the campground and are available to campers for no additional cost. There are an almost unlimited number of trails for hiking and bicycling. The only negative was the cost which was higher than most state parks. In addition to the quoted rate for a site, there is an 11% sales tax, a 15% resort tax and a $4 registration fee. Our cost for 10 nights exceeded $42 per night. Given the amenities offered by the park, this isn't unreasonable but it was considerably more than we had expected to pay for a state park. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a beautiful park that has something for everyone and has a site for any type of camping equipment you may have....it's clean, well ran and has miles and miles of hiking and biking trails....services are great, with nice level sites that view the water or are more settled back in the woods....not all the sites have a fire ring but we went to the local Walmart and bought a fire pit for a great price which mad our site and stay complete.....no doubt about it we will be back..... Very nice park with great walking/biking trails But.... be aware that these same park trails are also used by speed bikers from who pay no attention to the 10 mph limit (totally unenforced) or show any common courtesy to slower moving walkers, bikers, your kids or dogs.

The park is kept clean and the sites well maintained. Laundry facilities are good. Personnel are very nice We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

A great state park! New boardwalks on the trails thru the bogs and marshes. CG is very large but spread out. Easy access to the beach. GPS took me thru the Park but the campground not on AL 135 but off of AL 182. AL 135 is narrow and curvy so I suggest taking AL 59 to AL 182. Rate is based on the monthly rate. WiFi is available but is typical for a campground. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We had reserved a week here online, and I was really disappointed at the way their reservation website worked (or didn't). I never got a confirmation email, so I called and the person I talked to was less than helpful. I called again the day we were to arrive just to double-check and confirmed that we were expected, so that eased my mind. Once we arrived they were terrific. The spot I had chosen had been given to someone else and they were going to put us elsewhere in a back-in, so we worked with them to find a spot that was actually big enough for us, with hopefully some room to get the motorcycles out of the back. We wound up with a pull-through on the far end of the campground, #452. After we rode our bicycles around we were REALLY glad we had gotten that one, as the one we reserved AND the one they were going to put us in were in what looked like a burn area. The whole section there had burnt trees and smelled of smoke. The park itself is incredible. There are walking and biking paths galore, and the beach is an easy bike ride from the campground if you're fit. You can even ride to the pier if you're willing to tackle the over-the-road bridge (you can ride if you dare!). We loved it, and plan to come back. November was a bit cool, not really water weather, but sunny and beautiful nonetheless. Some sites had fire rings, our had a grill-on-a-post setup. It was really quiet on the far end where we were. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We really enjoyed this campground. The sites themselves are huge. The campground office is open 24/7. Very convenient to pretty much everything. Wow, we thought, very happy to stay there. There were some issues though. They were doing some slow controlled brush burn right in back of us that was left smoldering, making breathing very difficult. One of the workers decided to start trouble for some reason but the ranger was ridiculously professional. Overall, we really enjoyed it here. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

I'll start by saying I love to stay in State Parks, so I have stayed in quite a few. This is now my favorite! It is the best or near the best I have ever stayed at. The sites are decent sized, the layout is excellent, and the staff is wonderful! We rented bikes and rode most of the paved trails here. I believe they said there are almost 20 miles of trails in this park. The beach is a little bit of a walk and it is very nice. You can also drive to the main beach pavilion area, if you choose. The pool is very popular. There is lots to do and plenty of places to eat in the area. If you are bored, it is your own fault! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Full service Campground with lots of amenities. Easy access to beaches on the sugar sands of the Gulf of Mexico. 496 campsites, many pull thrus, 30-50 amp service, water sewer, extremely clear TV reception due to rebrocast antennas every 50 feet in park. Wi- Fi being installed. Bike rentals, huge Olympic pool with other attached pools. No mosquitos, and friendly staff. Do not drive here on Saturday, roads full of drivers going South for week long condo rentals = results is heavy traffic on Saturdays. Golf, cabin and house rentals within the park. Beautiful wildlife museum. Flat easy in/out roads, no access problems. Plenty of room on all sides, wide campsites. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.
