This park is very nice with lots of trails to hike or bike. Hiking through the tree lined paved paths had a lot of bugs, but hiking on the boardwalks do not. 3/4 mile walk to the Gulf! Garbage and recycling area is a little inconvenient as there is one area for 500 sites, however the area is clean. There is a lot to do in the area as well. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We went to Florabama, took a dolphin boat tour, visited the wharf, ate at Live Bait and Lulu's, enjoyed the Big Beach Brewery and visited the beach. There is a lot to do near here.

The highlights of this park are the biking paths and the beach. You can ride your bike to town, through varied ecosystems, to see Lefty the resident aligator that EVERYONE seems to know, to the beach and back to your campsite. There is an interesting nature center, a nice, large laundry facility and an adequate camp store. We did not use the large swimming pool, tennis courts or boat dock. We took advantage of one scheduled park activity--a tour of the extremely long Gulf State Park fishing pier--led by local naturalist. She was extremely knowledgeable about the birds and fish of the area and the ocean. It was fun and informative. We camped at a pull through site on the boat canal. All services performed well. Wifi is available, but not the strongest. It is a wonderful destination State park. We plan to return and stay longer. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nightly rate is based on the monthly rate. This was our second stay in this great AL state park in a beautiful area. If you enjoy outdoor activities, this is the place to be. Easy access to miles of bike and walking trails, close to the beach, some great kayaking, and a decent dog park. We like the pull through sites on either end of the park for best for having less through traffic and close access to the bike trails. The monthly rate is only about $100 more than a two weeks stay, so a great deal. Open sky for satellite reception, but our ATT hotspot was very slow. Long term sites book fast, so make reservations early. They do offer a wait list which we were on (and on again for 2019). We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This place is huge!!! I really enjoyed this campground because the back country trail system runs right through it. The paved bike trails can take you to the beach or to the hidden Walmart on Ft. Morgan road. Our campsite was spacious and backed up to trees, so it felt a little more secluded and not so cramped. None of the campsites have a fire ring, which I'm not used to, but you are allowed to have one as long as it's 6 inches off the ground. There are community fire rings in each section but it was too far from our campsite. The check in staff was friendly. Just a word of warning. Check in is 3pm. If you try to come early you will be sitting there till 3pm if your site isn't ready. Fortunately our site was available. Bottom line, its a huge campground with plenty to do and I will definitely be back. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Got lucky to get 2 nights here to finish out or spring break trip. Very large park, but relatively quiet for it's size. Seemed very clean and well taken care of. Sites were decently spaced out considering the location. Beach is beautiful, but a bit of a hike to get there. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Excellent park, full amenities. Stay comes with free access to beach front pier. Lots of biking and walking trails and Nature walks. Sites are spacious and attractive. We will go back next year and spend more time exploring the park and surrounding area. This is a large park with a Lot of spaces, but all but 50 are reserved for 30 day or longer stays during the peak winter months. The reservations people stated that they are trying to change that though. Speaking of the reservations system, it sucks. We were never able to contact a live person at the park. Tried calling multiple times, got the "after hours" service most of the time. Left multiple (more than 3) messages asking about availability of sites, but never got a call back. Finally we were able to book two nights on line, and when we showed up, we were able to extend our stay by one night. When attempting to book for next year, were told at the park entrance office that there weren't any openings for our request stay, but that we could go to the park headquarters and get placed on a "waiting list". We almost didn't go, but decided to anyway. When we arrived, we requested to be put on the waiting list for 8 days next March. The lady said, well, we have a choice of three sites that are open for the time period you want, which do you want to reserve? What the heck?!? The Park HQ doesn't talk to the Park Entrance office apparently, as we ran into two other couples who had had similar experiences. They seriously need to revamp or fire their "after hours service" as well. Book early if going Nov through end of March. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The park is very well laid out, some sites are closer together than what ours was to the next site. The amount of paved bike trails was fantastic. The trash station was not all that convenient, but understandably so since there are nearly 500 camp sites. I only gave the Value a 3 star rating because this was the highest priced state park we stayed in. There was an 11% lodging tax and a 15% resort tax which runs the price up quickly. Granted, in the winter time in near the gulf coast, a KOA would have cost considerably more. The showers near our site were very clean and the water pressure and temperature were both very good. I understand seniors do get a discount through the week. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

This has become our favorite park to camp at....the new bike and walking/hiking trails have been a great addition......our site 486, was level and all services worked great....cell service was fine but the park WiFi is really slow so we use our cell hotspots instead...got over 30 channels with our antenna....the staff is great and the restrooms/showers are clean with plenty of hot water...we have no problems with this park and we will be back ..... A beautiful state park which has 468 back in and pull through sites. All sites are FHU, asphalt, level, with a picnic table and grill (no fire ring). We stayed in site 269, a spacious back in site on Rabbit Road which I highly recommend. Raccoon Road is the main road coming in/out of the campground, so the sites on this road will get constant car traffic and zero privacy (the sites towards the end 440-468 have less traffic/noise). Also, some sites back up to hiking/biking/walking trails giving them less privacy, so keep that in mind when booking. The waterfront sites are nice, but we did see standing water on some of the sites after it rained. Utilities worked well and water pressure was good. No cable, but we were able to get about 40 OTA channels and had excellent Verizon signal. The park has a lot of amenities including a large swimming pool (not heated), splash pad for kids, tennis courts, volleyball, horseshoes, and miles of fantastic hiking/walking/biking trails. They also have a very nice laundromat on site, nature center, and campground store (prepare yourself for sticker shock!). The dumpster was located near the front of the park so you had to either bike or drive your car to empty your trash. The previous occupants of our site left their trash for us to deal with (full of red ants, mind you!). A fair amount of noise from the overhead planes, but nothing that bothered us. Bathrooms/showers were large and spotlessly clean every day. The park gives you a pass to Gulf State Pier and is valid for the length of your stay. You can walk or bike to it directly from the campground, but it's a hike to get there (and we did see a large snake on the path). They are building another pavilion and restaurant this year that you will be able to walk/bike to as well. Nightly rate is $37, but with all the taxes and fees comes to $47 per night. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

There are two Walmarts within 5 miles. Lots of dining and shopping nearby. We had dinner at Cobalt's at the base of the bridge and weren't disappointed. They also have a Sunday brunch also that begins at 10:30 a.m.

Overall Rating:

Huge state park including a golf course, nature center and a long pier into the ocean. Approximately 500 camp sites, easily accessible and many that can accommodate our 41 foot fifth wheel. Many campers are long term and seasonal snowbirds and reserve a year in advance. Park boasts of many miles of trails. Unfortunately most are not in easy access by walking. A bicycle is almost a must and can be rented. There is considerable local advice and warnings about alligator and snake activity in the park. Many park sponsored activities. Nice laundry facility, however expensive. Many wifi antennas observed but apparently not functional. Only wifi access was noted to be in golf clubhouse. Very touristy area with 10 percent sales tax. We will probably not return as this was not a peaceful or private campground to relax in. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Literally one of the best State Parks in the US. Large level sites with a lot of space between each one. Clean restroom facilities that appear to be rarely used (saw one other person in the shower area in my 7 night stay, despite the park being full). Large laundry room that is open 24/7. Miles and miles of well-maintained hiking and biking trails. Close to the beach and even has a dog park nearby! Note that the camping price does not include 11% lodging tax and a 15% resort fee. A couple minor gripes: A lot of the utility pedestals are located in the middle of the sites. Unless you have extra long hoses and cords, you may find yourself parking closer to the front of the site, limiting the room for your toad. No garbage bins aside from the main dump near the office. Because of this, you'll experience dog owners who either think it's okay to throw the poop into the can inside of the bathroom, or just flat out won't pick it up as they don't want to be bothered carrying it back. This is especially prevalent on the trails, so watch your step! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

We had reservations for Monday through Thursday nights but when the weather turned extremely cold (for the Gulf Coast) we called and were allowed to come in a night early. The reservations and check in staff were very friendly and helpful, but the real gems at the park are the park naturalist and her staff. They took us on a fantastic First Day Hike to see the bald eagles in the park and provided daily educational sessions at the Nature Center. Our last visit to GSP was in 2013 and many improvements have been made since then, especially in hiking/biking trails and boardwalks. Unfortunately, the weather was too cold to make full use of the trails. We hope to return again soon. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We spent ten nights at Gulf State Park in our 40' fifth wheel. The campground is very large but is just a small portion of this huge state park. We stayed in one of the pull-through sites along Raccoon Rd. The site was a very long and level asphalt curve with a large patio in the middle. There was more than enough room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Although our site was centrally located, we would probably not stay on Raccoon Rd. in the future due to noise from the road traffic. The hookups at the site were very good and located conveniently. There are numerous amenities in the park, too many to mention. The laundry room is the size of a commercial laundromat. The beach pavilion and fishing pier are across the road from the campground and are available to campers for no additional cost. There are an almost unlimited number of trails for hiking and bicycling. The only negative was the cost which was higher than most state parks. In addition to the quoted rate for a site, there is an 11% sales tax, a 15% resort tax and a $4 registration fee. Our cost for 10 nights exceeded $42 per night. Given the amenities offered by the park, this isn't unreasonable but it was considerably more than we had expected to pay for a state park. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We had reserved a week here online, and I was really disappointed at the way their reservation website worked (or didn't). I never got a confirmation email, so I called and the person I talked to was less than helpful. I called again the day we were to arrive just to double-check and confirmed that we were expected, so that eased my mind. Once we arrived they were terrific. The spot I had chosen had been given to someone else and they were going to put us elsewhere in a back-in, so we worked with them to find a spot that was actually big enough for us, with hopefully some room to get the motorcycles out of the back. We wound up with a pull-through on the far end of the campground, #452. After we rode our bicycles around we were REALLY glad we had gotten that one, as the one we reserved AND the one they were going to put us in were in what looked like a burn area. The whole section there had burnt trees and smelled of smoke. The park itself is incredible. There are walking and biking paths galore, and the beach is an easy bike ride from the campground if you're fit. You can even ride to the pier if you're willing to tackle the over-the-road bridge (you can ride if you dare!). We loved it, and plan to come back. November was a bit cool, not really water weather, but sunny and beautiful nonetheless. Some sites had fire rings, our had a grill-on-a-post setup. It was really quiet on the far end where we were. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
