I'll start by saying I love to stay in State Parks, so I have stayed in quite a few. This is now my favorite! It is the best or near the best I have ever stayed at. The sites are decent sized, the layout is excellent, and the staff is wonderful! We rented bikes and rode most of the paved trails here. I believe they said there are almost 20 miles of trails in this park. The beach is a little bit of a walk and it is very nice. You can also drive to the main beach pavilion area, if you choose. The pool is very popular. There is lots to do and plenty of places to eat in the area. If you are bored, it is your own fault! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Full service Campground with lots of amenities. Easy access to beaches on the sugar sands of the Gulf of Mexico. 496 campsites, many pull thrus, 30-50 amp service, water sewer, extremely clear TV reception due to rebrocast antennas every 50 feet in park. Wi- Fi being installed. Bike rentals, huge Olympic pool with other attached pools. No mosquitos, and friendly staff. Do not drive here on Saturday, roads full of drivers going South for week long condo rentals = results is heavy traffic on Saturdays. Golf, cabin and house rentals within the park. Beautiful wildlife museum. Flat easy in/out roads, no access problems. Plenty of room on all sides, wide campsites. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The park has really nice sized sites that afford a degree of privacy if wanted. We stayed in 218 that had wonderful shade all day. We were right at the tennis courts, swimming pool, camp store and laundry. . It's a perfect location for kids. No cable and if there's wifi, I couldn't find it. The pool has a big splash pad and much of it is shaded--great for cooling off after a morning at the beach. The beach is amazing. Sugary white sand, dunes that are being rehabbed and planted with swaying sea oats. Clear water, but watch for the jellyfish! They almost ruined our time at the beach but the dolphins made up for it. We saw lots of them swimming by. We didn't walk the trails but they look wonderful and they're building new ones that will cross the road over to the beach. We will certainly come here again! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Seafood- Gulf Shores Steamer in Orange Beach is excellent! Avoid "The Steamer" in Gulf Shores, our food was cold and tasteless. The Gulf restaurant and bar (Orange Beach) built from shipping containers is a unique and really fun venue. Don't miss it!

For us, this state park was jyst okay. Pros: We had spot 304 and it fit our 40' fifth wheel. Staff was friendly and location was 10-15 minutes from the stores and restaurants. Nice bike path. Nice pool. Good AT&T service. Cons: Interior roads can be narrow, only a concern when riding bikes with our kiddos. No shade, tough for a July visit ;). No immediate beach access, you either have to bike or drive to the beach. Landscaping needed some serious attention in areas. No cable (not a biggie for us, just mentioning it). Biggest con for us, was the price. With fees and taxes, we paid $50/night for our 3 night stay which we felt was pricey for what it was. We would give this property 7.5 stars. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Excellent family campground! Lots to do here: nature trails, paved hiking/biking paths, boating, kayaking, fishing, and close to beach. Many miles of new paved hiking/biking paths and boardwalks were added in the last few months. One boardwalk is 1.1 miles long, providing a scenic view of campground and lake. They were testing the recent installation of WIFI throughout the campground; which still requires some work. You get a pass to the Gulf State Pier (saves $3 per person) and the beach acess is free. Will return! We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

After 8 days at GSP, I must say it's first class. Paved biking/walking trails, super clean shower/bath houses, easy access sites and plenty to do inside the park to keep you busy. Add in free beach and pier access. Plenty of great seafood eating within minutes of the park. Props to GSP for making camping their a great time! We look forward to a return trip! This park has received my first perfect score. A campground with nearly 500 campsites I expected it to be loud but instead was very quiet. We had a pull through site which was pretty genius the way it was set up. The back of our camper was to the road and the front was private with vegetation growth. The picnic table was wore completely out so I would plan to bring a table cloth and blankets to sit on. You'll need to drive to the beach but the state park provides plenty of parking. You'll receive a pier pass for everyone in your camper. The pier is where you can fish, walk, eat, and has bathroom facilities. Laundry facilities were clean. The pool was refreshing. Showers were the best I've ever used. When you enter the campground you'll notice parking to your immediate left. The park has built beautiful decking all the the way to the lake and across. We even saw a 14-16 alligator along the lake's edge. The park attendants were nice and helpful. We plan to return to this campground in the future. We camped in a travel trailer. Huge campground with many full service sites. Lots of bike trails, some which needed repaving, and some new ones being created. We were disappointed that many boardwalks appeared finished but were blocked to use, forcing us to ride along the highway to the pier & beach. Once opened, biking will be great. Nice beach & park. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

One of the best State Parks we have ever stayed at. Paved sites and roads with miles of paved walking cycling paths through the forest and swamps with lots of opportunities to view wildlife. Lakes available for fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Also bath-house on the Gulf and a long fishing pier at the end of the long sandy beach. Swimming pool, tennis courts, volleyball, nature center, laundry, camp store etc. All of it in excellent condition. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of trails to bike ride or walk. The main highways through Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have marked bike lanes that connect to the State Park trails for easy access to lots of local seafood restaurants and attractions. Great uncrowded beach on the Gulf. We cycled to Orange Beach to visit a bike shop and tour an interesting local history museum.

Overall Rating:

At almost 500 sites, this state park is HUGE! The nice thing is, the camp ground is almost 2.5 miles long and is divided into several sections, so it really doesn't feel that big. Well, unless you walk on the main road, then there is a lot of traffic. You really need to check aerial and camp ground maps when making reservations since there is not a lot of consistency between them. Some are very long, some short, some have very close neighbors, others have decent spacing. We spent a lot of time walking/riding through the park and sites 14-37 on the lake and sites 469-496 on the canal were our favorites. 447-468 are also decently long pull throughs, nearer to the great bike paths, but further to the beach. The new blacktop paths and boardwalks are awesome!! If you ride a bike, this park has wonderful trails and connects with additional trails. A beautiful location and we will be back. One ding on the park...no dog waste stations! Hopefully, they will add some. One major ding on the area - Zero dog friendly beaches. Decent Verizon coverage and our site had open sky for sattelite reception. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Motorhome.
