Overall Rating:

This is the best park in the area. Friendly desk. Sites were concrete. Some had breaks and cracks but I would park my fifth wheel on any of them. Back-ins were easy and wide, many better than the pull through. I stayed in a pull through. We were in the open with no trees at our site but most were shaded with oak trees. Excellent for dogs. They have a paved walking path at the front that stretches for miles along the highway but 30 to 80 yards from the road with woods in between. I will stay here again. Two weeks in Florida and this is the best for the money we experienced. It was only topped by the Disneyworld camp Wilderness which cost 3 times as much per night. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Quoted $34.20 for a pull through and $31.50 for backin. Their brochure advertises $35. With additional $3.00 for pull through. NO DISCOUNT even though brochure states "Good Sam Park". The charges are confusing, then there are the added taxes! Sites NOT level, concrete pads broken up, pavers placed here and there to "patch" breaks and missing concrete. It was very hard to level camper. Restrooms are very dated, although appear to be clean with mold on the grout between tiles, I do not consider it "clean". No dog run or specified area to walk dogs. Those who do not clean up after their dogs makes it nasty. Staff are pleasant but have a "that is the way it is" attitude. WIFI poor, verizon cell phone service non existent. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This camp site is on the road to Ft. Morgan, 22 miles out of town. No access to beaches down this road and far from the beach, shopping and restaurants.

I liked everything about this park except the strong cigarette smoke in the two shower rooms I used. Was it situational? It was so bad the first morning I showered that I thought it was being pumped in. The second morning (different room) was not quite so bad. My spouse's pj's, which he had worn in the shower room, still stunk that evening after we'd traveled 400 miles. Nice park, nice staff, great stink in the shower rooms. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This rv park was convenient and a nice scenic drive heading south. The sites were well paved, and our neighbors were very friendly. Showers were clean with no shortage of hot water. One shower area was being repaired at our time of visit. The pool is not heated if snowbirding. Minimal activity in a fair rec room that needs updated. They do offer horseshoes. People do fish but a license is required. All in all worth the money for passing through. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Fort Morgan civil war park, and if you enjoy history visit the SS Alabama nearby. That was a pleasant site to see.

Stayed here for 8 winters. The only thing that I miss are the friendly snowbirds. Each year, the park declines a little more. WiFi, cable are poor. An increasing number of full time sites are occupied and in general are not neat and orderly.

This park has enormous potential for success. The sites are large and the location to the beach and bike/hiking trail is great! We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Mix bag review - some good, some bad. Park was full during our visit (Shrimp Fest) but we didn't feel like sardines packed in a can as the sites are roomy. Previous comment about poor signage on approach is still an issue (Oct '15), although they do have their own turn lane if you're heading west on 180 - a plus if you're in traffic. Branches of plants at entrance overhang driveway and there's a tight turn upon entering. Roadways in park are wide and paved, allowing for 2 way travel. Sites are a combination of cement pad to park on with patio blocks adjacent for your outdoor area and then small crushed rock from the street to the pad. Plenty of room to put out slide rooms and awnings between sites with no worry of bumping neighbor rig. Land between sites is combination of sand and grassy type vegetation. Some sites are shady, most are full sun. Also some sites are pull thru, most back in. Picnic tables at all sites. Very strong water pressure.
Common areas (bathrooms, showers, laundry, office) are not that clean. Showers (2 per bath location for a total of 4 showers) are set up as complete bathroom (toilet, sink & shower per room) and one bath house also had toilet stalls for those just wanting to relieve themselves. We watched maintenance enter the showers to "clean" but 2-3 minutes later he was in the next unit. Two laundry areas were located in bathhouses and they also needed good cleanings. Saw several park guests as well as staff ignore the no smoking indoor policy (laundry, bathhouse, office).
Office staff were some of the politest, kindest campground staff we've ever encountered in our travels - welcome southern hospitality to us northerners. It wasn't they did anything extra special for us, just their drawl and words always ending with Sir or Ma'am. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Badly signed when trying to locate but understand that new signage is being made. Great pool, wi-fi & laundry. No cable. Only 1 mile to beach. Excellent location for Shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Concrete slab & pad with table. Some slabs were broken up but they are in the process of removing and replacing them. Paved roads. Some shade if you pick the right site. Very helpful staff. Travelling in 38ft motorhome with tow. Would stay here again. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Motorhome.

The previous two reviews are very accurate about this park. The most favorable feature about IR is the location. It is biking distance to the beach and the biking trails provide a safe environment for both walking and biking. This is what has kept us coming back for the past seven years. As previously noted, the cable TV is fair at best and the internet has degraded the past couple years to where it is not usable. Many of our friends have gone to other parks because of this. Rate reflects Good Sam discount. This is a pretty nice park with a few drawbacks. The location is good, with only a short drive to many activities. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Park roads are paved and sites are in good condition, with easy access to hookups. Several sites have shade, which is a big plus in the summer heat. Cable TV only consists of about 20 channels and most were snowy, but watchable. Internet was weak and pretty unreliable at our site. Maintenance guy had a German Shepard tied outside that barked frequently and lurched menacingly toward us whenever we walked by on the street. Some long term campers looked junked up around them. I'd stay here again but I might just check around for something better next time. Maybe that big dog will be gone by then. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park is in a good location for visiting Gulf Shores. Each RV site has a concrete pad and a picnic table. In the past year the sites that had cracked and broken pads have been replaced with new cement pads. The front portion of the park has shade trees while the back portion is open. The showers, restrooms, and laundromat were always clean. The park has a very nice pool and a small playground for kids. There is a county maintained walking/bike trail that passes right in front of the park. Each site has cable TV but it seems to fluctuate between a perfect picture and a snowy picture. The park's wifi is spotty at best. The staff was very friendly. Our nightly rate reflects the Good Sam discount. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We almost didn't come because of the most recent ratings. This is a pretty good park. The office staff was very helpful and accommodating. Everything you need (Walmart, beach, restaurants) are within 2 miles. The showers/restrooms were kept clean. It is easy access and the sites are adequate. There are some FEMA trailers, but the vast majority are family campers. The park seemed to be very safe. The WiFi was good and the cable had enough channels to keep us entertained! Some of the slabs are cracked (like my driveway), but they all appear to be level. Water pressure and electricity were good. Overall, this is a good campground and I wouldn't have and concerns about recommending it. We will stay here again. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This park is not being maintained and rules are not enforced. The maintenance man has two ratty trucks parked in the grass along side of his boat. His dog is tied up to the boat with no one outside. Many campsites look trashy. People have freezers, refrigerators, couches, multiple tents, shelving, and other home items outside of their units. They have pet areas but they are full with boats and trailers. Filthy old units look as if they have been abandoned. It is a shame that better care is not given to this park. The location is great and many nice people come for the summer. The pool area is nice. This could be a 7-8 if the rules they state in their brochure were enforced. Great potential but for now I cannot recommend it. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Motorhome.

Don't prepay for extra days I paid for 3 extra days and could not stay so I ask for a refund to my card They said we can't refund your card u will have a credit to stay another time. I didn't know that is how they do refunds so I have 3 nights 100 dollars credit that I will never get back. I myself consider that stealing but the manager says it's not. I will never be back there or recommend this place. We camped at Island Retreat RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
