13 Parks near Huntsville, Alabama
Aug 2016 - $25.00
Close to Huntsville, but has a remote feel. Great mountain biking and trails. Can't beat this park for Huntsville area. Arrived on a weekend night and had to drive around a few times to get a site, but roads were wide enough to allow good access for motor home. site was level which is not a guarantee for state parks. - pokeyt
Nov 2015 - $28.00
Great campground and close to Huntsville about 1,000 ft. above the city. The campground only has 30amp service with one loop having full hookups. The weather was great however the wind at night gusted between 25-30mph.
Staff and hosts were helpful and friendly..... Monte Sano is our preferred choice to stay when the weather is good while visiting Huntsville. - AU Fishing
Nov 2015 - $26.00
My wife and I came down Thanksgiving evening for a couple of nights to celebrate her 40th birthday. We had been to this park before to simply picnic and look around. This was our first time to camp. The campground is very nice and was all we hoped it would be. Nice, level site with full hookup (#74). We had a back-in and the camp host rode down with his golf cart and flash light and was very nice to help us back in. We took a couple of walks around the campground and noticed you can see the lights of Huntsville below from the edge of the campground. We didn't need to use the bathhouses, but went into them to take a look and they are very clean and well built. Both have a single coin-operated washer and dryer in the central entrance between the men's and women's sides. The camp store seemed to have basic necessity items. NOTE: We highly recommend driving up from Huntsville on highway 431 (Governor's Drive). The other route up (Bankhead Parkway) would be very sketchy for a travel trailer or large fifth wheel/motor home due to the hairpin turns and narrow residential roads leading to it. We definitely plan to camp again. We really enjoyed our stay! We may try a buddy site next time. We have some close friends who camp also. - bigjohnjeep
Jul 2016 - $18.00
Great Park! We stayed here 1 night coming home from Florida. We hated the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, but love the campground.
This park is small, but nice. Sites were well spaced. They are very clean.
There was no online reservations available. This is old school. You have to call and check availability. I didn't get to pick out my spot. You have to trust the person working the office.
Would be great if you are looking to things in Huntsville. Would stay here again! - kmeece
Jun 2016 - $20.00
This is a very nice little campground on the property of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. There is only one bath house on the grounds and 27 spaces (although there is talk that they may expand it). All sites have full hook-ups, but are very tight to get into, which is why I only gave it a 9 rating. The park is clean and the people are very friendly. I would recommend this park to anyone (just make sure you have a reservation). This was my 2nd time staying there (my first was in May). - benatk
Nov 2015 - $20.00
As other reviews have stated, it is an older park that is badly in need of updating. Location is great, sites are level, 30amp, water and sewer, but has a majority of semi-permanents, host on duty Monday-Friday 9-5 otherwise note on door of the few sites available on weekends. Saw security vehicles several times patrolling the main interior road. It is definitely an overnight but not a destination campground. - RJourney
May 2016 - $22.00
Quiet campground at a marina on the Tennessee River. Sites are moderately level, large enough. Some long-term residents. All were friendly. Staff was helpful. Dump station is a pump intended for boats. Fitting was wrong for RV so ended up spilling some and carrying the rest to the next campground. - William Custer
Aug 2014 - $18.00
Not a bad place to stay if you want to fish and boat. The main draw back, no sewer sites and it's under a canopy of trees. - TheTideRide
Mar 2013 - $30.00
The campground provides quiet surroundings. The general area is prone to flooding in heavy rain periods that can impacts some of the walking trails. Nearby boat launch available. Stores and restaurants within a few minutes drive. - LQQKing2B
Mar 2016 - $20.00
This is a great campground with long pull through. We were able to keep the toad connected. There is no office to check in at. We had made reservations and the reservation had our site number. We went to our site and sometime while we were there, someone put a sign in a holder that said it was us. There are concrete pads at each site and plenty of room between sites. There is a great trail for running, walking or biking near the campground. The campground is close to the commissary and the BX. The laundry was great and the restrooms clean. They keep a few sites open for overnight stays. Would definitely come again if in the area. - Ludmilla
Jun 2015 - $20.00
The rate is $20 a night, but you only pay for six nights when you stay a week. Showers and bathroom were clean. The campground is basic but has everything you need. You have to be military or other military connects to stay here. We would stay here again. - Ugly SAM
May 2015 - $20.00
Gravel roads; large level concrete pads; full hook-ups; stable power; clean laundry; near commissary, exchange, service station, and car wash; strong Verizon signal; free wifi; easy reservation with pre-assigned site ... no need to check in on arrival; no shade. - SunStar203
Jul 2016 - $18.00
This is a very nice little park. We stayed here over the fourth of July and loved it. - chub
May 2015 - $18.00
What a gem of a park! This is a large, beautiful, peaceful campground with full hookups. Some sites are shaded, some are not. Huntsville is an easy 20-30 min drive from this campground. The camphost was friendly and helpful. Utilities worked well, we had good cell coverage, and a clear shot of the sky for satellite. We will definitely stay here when in the area again. - henny38
Oct 2011 - $15.00
Both shaded and open campsites available. All sites have water and electric hookups. There are asphalt pads with picnic tables, fire rings and a trash can at each site. Most sites are fairly level and connections are well placed. Fishing permits are $1.50 daily. There are no permanent residents -- limit is 4 consecutive months. Gates to campground are locked at dark. $10 deposit required for gate key. $10 deposit required for bathroom key. Both are refundable. We'd stay here again. - goodspinach
Jun 2012 - $20.00
We stayed here while visiting family that lived just a few miles away. It was a nice, quiet park. We had a pull-through site that required little leveling. No amenities here (they do have a laundry and rest room, but it is an old trailer with a bathroom and one washer and dryer). Very nice owners who live on site. We would stay here again when visiting family. - SheilaB104
Jul 2016 - $25.00
Fairly level gravel lots, no cable, wifi spotty. Their idea of a dog park was tiny. No shade, next to highway. This is an OK overnight stop is about it. We arrived late and they were nice enough to come back and check us in, very considerate. - ChiefET
Apr 2016 - $15.00
We spent 3 nights here with a terrific PA rate of $15 per night. Gravel driveways and gravel site pad, full hookups, pretty good WiFi and a pool. We didn't use the pool. There is some highway noise but it didn't interfere with our sleep. The bathrooms are OK but could benefit from more thorough cleaning. Close to Crystal Cathedral State Park and about 20-30 minutes from Huntsville. - Coopsecondact
Dec 2015 - $19.00
Nice while passing through. Highway noise. Great hosts. Would stay here again, if in area. - Bubblehead651
Oct 2015 - $18.00
We were looking for a camp site for the night near the Unclaimed Baggage store in Scottsboro, and this was close and on the way. We arrived at the state park at night without reservations but the gate to the park and visitors center was closed. We were about to leave when a Ranger pulled up behind us and pointed out that we had passed the campground road a few hundred feet back and we could just pick a spot and pay in the morning (just watch for the small campground sign on the right just after you make the last turn to the park road). He then helped us back into one of the electric back-in sites, which were actually pretty wide and long enough to allow us to keep our 16' Camper and pickup attached.
The sites are all grass, entered from a gravel loop road. The electric and water sites appear to be back-in, and there are a few primitive pull-through sites inside the loop, mostly used by tenters and class B vans.
The restroom was well lit and clean. They hope to get a dump station next year, but there was none available at this time.
This would be an excellent spot for a visit to the nice caverns at this state park, they are just up the hill at the visitors center. - johnhag
Jul 2016 - $30.00
A great place for an overnight stop on the way to Florida. No amenities like a pool, but the sites are all pull throughs so we didn't have to unhook. The sites are stone, and generally level. We would stay again if passing through. - mcjohnson74
Jul 2016 - $30.00
Simple and easy. Great stop if you are self contained. Highly recommended. - Dennis_K
Jun 2016 - $30.00
This is a nice, convenient park on the west side of Interstate 65. It is very quiet even though you are able to see the Interstate if you park down past the office. There are some sites beside the office that are level and longer, but you will hear the highway. The roads and sites are all gravel. The power is very good as is the free WiFi. One caution is the 70# water pressure, so a regulator is needed unless you have a newer rig. It appears the park only serves self-contained rigs. The park is lightly used, so getting a space is almost assured. This is more a stop-over campground or a place to stay while visiting Huntsville, AL, 29 miles to the north. The park has one price; $30/night, cash or check.
We would stay here again. - Workamper04
May 2016 - $29.00
Nice club house with TV and pool table. All night access and full kitchen. Friendly and laid back service, drop box payment after hours. Pull thru sites with small concrete pad. Sites were well spaces but a bit odd layout. Right off busy road but the noise was not disruptive. Good for a peaceful nights rest. Very easy to get to off Route 65. - Jeannie and Eddy
Jul 2015 - $23.00
Several full hook up sites with 50amp, water, sewer located on front side of park. Mobile homes are on back side. Quiet and level sites. Some have better concrete pads than others. Good laundry room. Very large underground storm shelter is on site. Good Verizon/ATT cell service. Clear line of sight for Sat TV and local channels are clear. Not much around the park, but easy drive to Athens or Decatur. Price based on weekly basis. - Gpndavid
Mar 2015 - $30.00
We arrived after 11:00 pm looking for a place to stay for the night. The park is simple to find off the highway (I-65), their signage is very good. There was a well lit check-in spot explaining the costs, late check-in process and what spots are available for overnight. Payment is honor system after hours, placing payment in a locked box at their office. They have a nice map of the park but the numbers weren't all there so we weren't sure where some of the spots were, and being so late we wanted to be as less disruptive to the other campers as possible. We ended up in the open end spot, which was tough to get into with a 36' motorhome towing a car, but we managed. There was a concrete pad that was quite level. Sewer and water were on the correct side, power was on the other side but reachable with our standard cord.
Being that we were on the end spot as you enter the park we heard every car that came into the mobile home park (it's all one huge property) which was surprisingly consistent all night long. The park is also right on US-31 which is also very busy.
The after hours check-in sheets gave the codes for laundry and showers, but we did not look at either so I cannot comment. The overall property appeared clean and well kept so I'd assume they are nice and clean as well.
This park met our needs perfectly. We arrived very late, had full hookups on a level pad, and left early. We would use them again for a stopover if needed, but not somewhere we'd stay for an extended time. - OnDaRox
