Lovely, heavily forested park on a mountain top. Approach streets are urban, narrow, and twisty. Full hookup sites available only on a first come, first served basis. Rest have water and electric. Great place for kids to have a camping experience. Varied trails. Beautiful lookouts. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

This is a very nice park. Great location on top of a mountain, surrounded by large trees with lots of shade. Most of the sites looked level and only a few had sewer. There appeared to be long-term RV's parked in some of the nicest sites, not supposed to stay in one site over 14 days(must know someone special). The restroom/shower were clean, water was warm but not much water pressure. I would give the shower a 7.5 rating. Great place to stay to see Huntsville. No problem picking up off-air TV and no problem with ATT cellphone. We really enjoyed this park and will return. NOTE: Many of the trees are chestnut oak trees, which has large chestnut acorns that will fall on your RV and vehicles. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo

Park is in good condition. Roads are paved but the sites are crushed gravel. Rained two of the three days and we noticed water running through our site not around it. The park is close to Huntsville but do not expect cell service; it is not available. We would camp here again. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Tent Trailer.Undo

This was one of the nicest state parks we have ever stayed in. Great mountain overlooks, huge playground for kids. Sites are specious and ours was perfectly level. This is on our favorites list for Huntsville. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

We enjoyed our stay. This is kind of a local park for us but its was good for a quiet getaway, and we went to work from the campground. As mentioned, it is a quiet park and the scenery over Huntsville is something to see. Park is close to Huntsville so there are plenty of places to eat. Staff was friendly. I would have given it a 9 or 10 but the roads once you turn off of Governors drive are kind of narrow and go through some neighborhoods along the way. Also they need a better entrance sign. It is kind of hidden and to close to actual turn off spot so you can run by it before you know it (like I did). Luckily there was some more roads that led back to it without much trouble. All in all we had a good stay and we would stay here again for a short trip. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

This is a great RV Park! Large sites with a lot of mature trees. The sites are farther apart and separated by trees so you have more privacy than you normally get. It was nice and quiet. We stayed in a nice pull thru with full hook-ups and fire pit. Bathrooms/showers kept clean despite quite a bit of traffic. The pads are crushed gravel, but ours was fairly level. Great playground and lots of hiking trails. We also visited the Huntsville Space & Science Center, which is a 15-20 minute drive away. We would visit again! Great park. Nice sites. Beautiful park setting. Just be careful which road you take up to the park!! Use Monte Sano Blvd SE only!! Only wished we stayed longer We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

Beautiful park with wonderful nature trails, plenty of shade, and space in between campsites. Downside is the restroom and showers. Poor water pressure, and renovation needed. We would stay again! We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo
Date of Stay: April, 2013 - $18.00
Nice level gravel sites within shady forest setting. Okay rest rooms but were in a need of a cleaning. Maybe things were out of sorts because a terrible thunderstorm just passed through the area with lightening hitting trees, knocking out electrical, cable and Wi-Fi and they were trying to get things going again. Date of Stay: March, 2013 - $26.00
Clean, quiet park. Some sites had sewer hookups, which is uncommon in most state parks. It was not a busy time of year so we had lots of privacy. The sites were wide and shaded. There were hiking trails and some beautiful vistas of areas surrounding the mountain. The location was excellent. We would definitely return. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

This was our first visit to Monte Sano campground and we really enjoyed it. We stayed on the outer part of the Record Drive loop & had a nice view of city lights below through the trees. The sites are shady and roomy. The bath house was clean & well supplied. We enjoyed the peace and quiet at night and a beautiful view of the stars, since there are no street lights along the loop. The city of Huntsville is only about 5 minutes from the park. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo

Rate reflects average of four night of camping. Two nights at discounted rate ($19), and two (Friday & Saturday) at full rate of $22). Plus 11% tax. Previous reviews are pretty much right on. Our site (#13) was a bit uneven for our 28 foot rig, but we made it work. No cellular service (Verizon) but plenty of local over the air TV. Very clean restrooms. Got a bit busy on the weekend, but there were plenty of empty sites, too. We would stay here again. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo

This is a very nice park. The showers were very clean, and all of the utilities were excellent. Due to the tree cover I was unable to use satellite TV at my site. However, at some of the other sites they were able to use the satellite. I didn't get to hike any of their extensive hiking trail network, but will do so next time I come here. I will definitely come back here. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

On this trip, all of our check-ins seemed to be after the office closed, and this was no exception. The camp host came out to us to let us in, because we sat in the parking lot making a quick bathroom stop before figuring out how to check-in after hours. He was a quiet guy, not welcoming, but not unfriendly. He and his wife helped me pick a site that would be good for our size and he even took me for a ride through the campground on his golf cart to preview the sites. The park itself is stunning. Paved roads through-out and nicely sized sites. We didn't use them, but they even had some "A & B" sites where 2 campers could be parked together. The sewer sites were limited and unavailable by the time we checked-in on a Friday. I didn't have any problems with the 30amp electricity, but we were at family events each day and didn't spend much time at the camper at all. I'd gladly stay here again. A quick comment about the roads leading to it. For big rigs, avoid Bankhead Parkway and Fearn St. instead opting for Monte Sano Blvd. There is a 10mph switchback/hairpin curve to contend with. I made it with my 42' FW and 22' dually/crew cab truck, but made the choice to go down the mountain differently. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

This park is very shaded and on top of a mountain. There are many bike and walking trails and a nice lookout point to see the city from above. There is also an observatory for watching stars which was open Saturday night. Overall it is a great park, except I kept tripping the 30 amp fuse on the box, and the few sewer sites available are not reservable. I would stay here again.
