Another beautiful COE park. This was our 1st time staying but will not be our last. Rate reflects Sr. discount. Toilets were spotless, did not use showers. Sites are spacious. We stayed in site 40 and had river view. Cement (backin) driveway was over 100ft long. Site was perfectly level. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Sites 1-75 were renovated to include E, W, S. We had an opening and was able to use our satellite, ATT worked well. There are long asphalt sites with a gravel patio and paved roads. Very nice park for the price, the only drawback was the ants. Be sure to bring a lot of spray and spray everything touching the ground immediately, it took us several days to get rid of them after we sprayed inside and out. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Gunter Hill is a fantastic campground. We have stayed on the Catoma side twice. The sites are very long, level and nicely spaced out. There is a gravel patio with a picnic table and fire ring. The restrooms and showers were clean, with hot water. The shower heads were VERY low, which was kind of an annoyance but OK. We used the laundry facility, which had very clean/probably newer washer and dryers. Two of each. It was $1 per wash and $1 per dry. This campground is very quiet, with lots of trees. There is a racetrack near the campground. We could hear the motorcycles (outside) on a Friday night, but they didn't go on late, and we couldn't hear them over our AC unit. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

I stayed in the Catoma Loop, which is the newer part of the park. Site was huge and paved. There was a fire pit, BBQ and picnic table. It rained a couple times while I was there and the water didn't drain off the pad very or soak into the ground very fast. The pads are very level and wide. Utilities were very good. Verizon service on my phone was usually 3G and 2 bars. Verizon air card was slow also. It was out of town a ways, so getting to grocery stores was a 20 to 30 minute drive. Nice and quiet at the park though. Road to the park is narrow but a short drive. Park is close to a race track, so you hear the cars when they have races there. Also close to an Air Force base, so you get noise when the jets take off there. It was a good park to have as a base to explore Montgomery and the area. I would stay here again. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

I can't say too many nice things about this campground. The slots were spacious with long level concrete pads. There was a graveled "patio" with a picnic table. The bathhouse was a 30 yard walk behind our site. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is a tough campground to rate. There are aspects of it that place it as a 9 or 10 and other aspects that place it at a 2-4. Here it goes. There are two loops in this campground. One loop is full hook ups and pretty new. The other loop are water/electric and much older. We were in the older loop. There are many very large sites in both loops. Many of them overlook the river which you can see when the leaves are down. All have picnic tables, fire rings and places to hang lanterns. The exterior sites are all easy to get into even for large rigs. The newer loop are gigantic sites with some of the sites being 200-250 feet long. They are all paved and many overlook the river. The restrooms in the older loop are very run down. The doors to the stalls were broken or would not close. The mirrors are awful and the faucets are corroded. The trash container is up near the exit. The restrooms in the new side are about the same in structure but they are much newer and in good repair. You need to travel 15-20 minutes to get to grocery stores and restaurants. This is a convenient campground to explore Montgomery but there really isn't anything to do at the campground itself unless you have a boat. If we come back we would stay in the newer side which probably rates a 8 or 9. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Vist the Maya Lin Civil Rights Memorial in downtown Montgomery. See the outside monument and go into the museum. It is well worth your time and the $2 fee. We spent about 90 minutes here. Also St. Peter's Catholic Church is beautiful. Detailed woodwork, stained glass windows, ceilings. Not sure if they have this every Sunday but the 10:30 Mass we went to they had a wonderful gathering in their center.

Rate reflects National Park Service Interagency pass, 50% off. This is an awesome park with many amenities not seen outside private RV campgrounds. As the past reviewers have noted, the Catoma Loop has 75 full hookup, very long, level, and paved campsites. Each site has a hard packed gravel patio with picnic table, fire ring, hanging hook, and BBQ. There are back in and pull through sites. All utilities worked well as did our Verizon MiFi and cell phone. Free firewood available from camp hosts or you can pick up downed, dead wood on the ground. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We used the park as our base to explore the Montgomery area from Selma to Tuskegee. The Selma to Montgomery Interpretative Center is a must stop if you are interested in the Civil Rights movement of the '60s. You'll never miss voting in another election after viewing the video and learning more about this time in America's history.

Best Corps of Engineers Park that I have ever stayed. Large pull through concrete full hookup 50 amp sites. Playground and lakeside sites available. It is only 15 minutes into Montgomery and 35 to Selma just off the "the March to Montgomery" Highway 80. Fire pits and hangers w/picnic tables at all sites. Friendly! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

COE Parks overall are great but this one is assume to say the least. Our cost reflects the old guys discount card, the Catoma loop has 75 FHU sites, all sites are padded, long sites with a gravel patio, picnic table, fire ring and hanging hook. this park has wide paved roads, paved paths and a lot of water front sites. If you have any issues maneuvering through this park, no mater how big your rig, you shouldn't be driving. They even have free fire wood. We have a 42' fifth wheel and there isn't a site we couldn't fit on with our truck and with room leftover, there are quite a few pull throughs. Verizon and MiFi worked great. TV antenna got 40 channels, dish might not work in some areas unless you can move it around. Your about 20 minutes from Montgomery, shopping and restaurants are close. Great Park. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Located along the Alabama River, this COE campground is worth going out of the way for. Sites 1 - 75 were all developed in the last four years and are beautifully done. Access roads are blacktopped. Lots of space between sites which are a mix of pull thru and back-in. All sites have concrete pads with gravel patios that include a fire pit, picnic table, and a standing barbeque grill. 50A electric power was solid at 121v. Be aware that water pressure was high and I capped it at 55psi with my regulator. The sites also have sewer but we didn't use. There was a bathroom facility conveniently located which we didn't take advantage of but was clean. This was just an overnight stop for us but we would definitely come back again and stay longer next time. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

I would highly recommend this park, very new, with nice concrete pads and full hookups. I always enjoy COE parks, but this is the nicest I have seen. Plenty of space between sites and good shade. Some are on the river with a fair view. Utilities worked well, did not use their facilities, so no comment on that. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

This park has 2 sides one with sewers and the other without! We have stayed at this park multiple times and sad to say this was not as great as we have in the past! The site itself was perfect for view and size for camper; however there was trash all over the place normally the leaves and branches are all blown off! We had to clean up ourselves before we could even pull in! The ladies restroom was clean but one toilet was out of order the entire time we were there. The men's restroom only had one closed completely toilet! The other's the dividers were all down as we were packing today to leave my husband said they were being repaired but we had already be here for 5 days. Previous contractors were so nice and accommodating & helpful the new ones were not so much! Very rude to us and sort of pushy. We felt like they did not really care for the campers on the Antioch side and felt more inclined to take care of the campers on the other side of the park! We will use them again but will be more prepared for cleaning our on site this time. Disappointed in the service from the contractors! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

A tale of two loops. The Antioch loop is more rustic with gravel sites, gravel roads and no sewer hook up. The Catoma loop offers full hook up, concrete pads, wide asphalt roads. We were on the Catoma loop, site 24, and could not have been more pleased. Choose your site carefully based on your needs. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.
