Real nice stop on way to Florida from Michigan. Stayed two nights. Short drive to Montgomery, very historical Park was typical ACOE with large clean paved and level sites. Unusual for ACOE our whole section had full hookups. Camp staff friendly. Only negative-dryer wasn't working. Discovered after I deposited my money of course. Had to hang my wet load of clothes all over my camp site to dry. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

I wish it had some trails, but the park is outstanding! Best roads/RV pads I've ever been too - level, flat, grounds kept up well and on a beautiful lake. We would definitely come again - thank you! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

This is a fantastic COE campground on the backwaters of the Alabama River, just outside of Montgomery, Alabama. The sites are huge, many are over 100' long, and they are all nice new concrete. The roads are fresh asphalt in excellent condition. There is a boat ramp, and many sites are waterfront, offering the ability to tie your boat up next to your campsite. Exceptionally clean and well maintained. Full hook ups, so 50A, Water & Sewer at every site (on the Catoma Loop anyhow). Catoma is the nicest, newest campground, Antioch was closed for the winter during my visit. There are clean bathrooms/shower houses. Lots of places to bank fish. There is quite a bit of shade, so satellite reception might be a problem, however the close proximity to Montgomery yields a large selection of OTA channels. Reserve a waterfront site ahead of time for great view of river backwater areas.

Nothing missing at this fantastic, spacious campground, highly recommended.

This campground got my first 10/10 rating on rvparkreviews.com! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

White House of the Confederacy historic site in nearby Montgomery. Oval Asphalt Race Track next door for racing fans. Nightlife nearby at "The Alley" entertainment district in Montgomery. No grocery stores nearby, so bring everything you need. There is a Dollar General nearby.

Excellent birding, with many large graceful water loving species.

We have stayed in several COE parks around the country and have been very pleased. This campground is excellent. There are two sections, Catoma Creek and Antioch Branch. We stayed in Catoma Creek section, which is newer. Easy access into the park and large sites offer a patio, picnic table, grill and fire ring. The site accommodated our fifth wheel and truck with lots of room to spare. The host who checked us in was very nice and helpful. There's a well-stocked Dollar General just up the road.

We will definitely stay here again. Rate reflects our America the Beautiful Pass. We recommend the newer section, Catoma Creek. Antioch Branch is better suited to smaller RV's or tent camping. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

When you check in to the park, ask for a site in the newer section. This park is absolutely beautiful & well maintained. It is equipped with full hook-ups (even sewer) & all of the pads are wide cement & very level. Utilities are good. If you have satellite tv, tell the host that & she can probably put you in a site that has clear shot. We parked in site #50 & had clear shot of satellite. Access road is smooth asphalt. Price was with my gov't issued senior pass. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

When you turn off of main hwy. to the two lane county road, you may feel a bit apprehensive about whether or not you are on the right road, but stay on it & it will take you to an intersection, where you continue straight for about half mile & you'll see the sign for the park on your left. The park is kinda off in the boonies, but once you see it, its well worth the drive...very quiet & safe. Would stay here again in a heartbeat

We have camped here many times and it's still an excellent campground. There are a couple of minor negatives, though: During July and August, on weekend nights the racetrack 1/2 mile from the campground is noisy. It's not too bad during the warm-ups and time trials, but during a long race (250 lap) it can become aggravating. The noise is loud enough you have to raise your voice during conversation if you are outside. A 25 lap race is not too bad.

The ants are pretty bad this year. I haven't seen them this bad at this campground before, but bring some ant spray!

Other than that, this is still a very nice CG. The layout is excellent with lots of space between campers and the CG is generally kept very clean.

TV reception from the Montgomery stations is good; good cell phone coverage; all types of shopping nearby. If the river water level is low (usually late summer), it's difficult to pull a boat up to the waterfront sites. The "new" side (lower numbers) are the best unless you want a more "rustic" campsite. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice park. Not a lot of amenities unless you count beautiful waterfront sites with peace and quiet. Stayed in newer Catoma loop with 30/50 electric, water and sewer on spacious site 26, plenty of room for 32' trailer and truck. Walked down to low bluff overlooking water for morning coffee and afternoon beverages. Would like to stay here about a month. If you have a kayak or boat all the better. Drinking water is not the best but would not deter me in the least from staying here, bring a filter. Recommend sites 26, 27, 28, 29, 32, 33. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Another beautiful COE park. This was our 1st time staying but will not be our last. Rate reflects Sr. discount. Toilets were spotless, did not use showers. Sites are spacious. We stayed in site 40 and had river view. Cement (backin) driveway was over 100ft long. Site was perfectly level. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Sites 1-75 were renovated to include E, W, S. We had an opening and was able to use our satellite, ATT worked well. There are long asphalt sites with a gravel patio and paved roads. Very nice park for the price, the only drawback was the ants. Be sure to bring a lot of spray and spray everything touching the ground immediately, it took us several days to get rid of them after we sprayed inside and out. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Gunter Hill is a fantastic campground. We have stayed on the Catoma side twice. The sites are very long, level and nicely spaced out. There is a gravel patio with a picnic table and fire ring. The restrooms and showers were clean, with hot water. The shower heads were VERY low, which was kind of an annoyance but OK. We used the laundry facility, which had very clean/probably newer washer and dryers. Two of each. It was $1 per wash and $1 per dry. This campground is very quiet, with lots of trees. There is a racetrack near the campground. We could hear the motorcycles (outside) on a Friday night, but they didn't go on late, and we couldn't hear them over our AC unit. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

I stayed in the Catoma Loop, which is the newer part of the park. Site was huge and paved. There was a fire pit, BBQ and picnic table. It rained a couple times while I was there and the water didn't drain off the pad very or soak into the ground very fast. The pads are very level and wide. Utilities were very good. Verizon service on my phone was usually 3G and 2 bars. Verizon air card was slow also. It was out of town a ways, so getting to grocery stores was a 20 to 30 minute drive. Nice and quiet at the park though. Road to the park is narrow but a short drive. Park is close to a race track, so you hear the cars when they have races there. Also close to an Air Force base, so you get noise when the jets take off there. It was a good park to have as a base to explore Montgomery and the area. I would stay here again. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

I can't say too many nice things about this campground. The slots were spacious with long level concrete pads. There was a graveled "patio" with a picnic table. The bathhouse was a 30 yard walk behind our site. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in the Catoma Loop, Site #17. First time at this campground, it was recommended by the couple we bought our camper from. The sites are at least 150ft long and all concrete pads, plenty of room and nice spacing between the sites, picnic table, grill and fire ring at all sites. Very peaceful and relaxing. The sites that overlook the river look amazing, coming back and reserving one of those. We went into the older Antioch Loop and it is not as nice and several of the sites have washed out and would be difficult for people to level or even back in without damage to their campers. We will return as long as a site is available in the Catoma Loop. As far as we are concerned there are no bad sites in Catoma. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.
