Best Corps of Engineers Park that I have ever stayed. Large pull through concrete full hookup 50 amp sites. Playground and lakeside sites available. It is only 15 minutes into Montgomery and 35 to Selma just off the "the March to Montgomery" Highway 80. Fire pits and hangers w/picnic tables at all sites. Friendly! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

COE Parks overall are great but this one is assume to say the least. Our cost reflects the old guys discount card, the Catoma loop has 75 FHU sites, all sites are padded, long sites with a gravel patio, picnic table, fire ring and hanging hook. this park has wide paved roads, paved paths and a lot of water front sites. If you have any issues maneuvering through this park, no mater how big your rig, you shouldn't be driving. They even have free fire wood. We have a 42' fifth wheel and there isn't a site we couldn't fit on with our truck and with room leftover, there are quite a few pull throughs. Verizon and MiFi worked great. TV antenna got 40 channels, dish might not work in some areas unless you can move it around. Your about 20 minutes from Montgomery, shopping and restaurants are close. Great Park. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Located along the Alabama River, this COE campground is worth going out of the way for. Sites 1 - 75 were all developed in the last four years and are beautifully done. Access roads are blacktopped. Lots of space between sites which are a mix of pull thru and back-in. All sites have concrete pads with gravel patios that include a fire pit, picnic table, and a standing barbeque grill. 50A electric power was solid at 121v. Be aware that water pressure was high and I capped it at 55psi with my regulator. The sites also have sewer but we didn't use. There was a bathroom facility conveniently located which we didn't take advantage of but was clean. This was just an overnight stop for us but we would definitely come back again and stay longer next time. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

I would highly recommend this park, very new, with nice concrete pads and full hookups. I always enjoy COE parks, but this is the nicest I have seen. Plenty of space between sites and good shade. Some are on the river with a fair view. Utilities worked well, did not use their facilities, so no comment on that. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

This park has 2 sides one with sewers and the other without! We have stayed at this park multiple times and sad to say this was not as great as we have in the past! The site itself was perfect for view and size for camper; however there was trash all over the place normally the leaves and branches are all blown off! We had to clean up ourselves before we could even pull in! The ladies restroom was clean but one toilet was out of order the entire time we were there. The men's restroom only had one closed completely toilet! The other's the dividers were all down as we were packing today to leave my husband said they were being repaired but we had already be here for 5 days. Previous contractors were so nice and accommodating & helpful the new ones were not so much! Very rude to us and sort of pushy. We felt like they did not really care for the campers on the Antioch side and felt more inclined to take care of the campers on the other side of the park! We will use them again but will be more prepared for cleaning our on site this time. Disappointed in the service from the contractors! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Dollar General about a mile up from the campground entrance! Bring a rake to clean off your on site or a leaf blower!

A tale of two loops. The Antioch loop is more rustic with gravel sites, gravel roads and no sewer hook up. The Catoma loop offers full hook up, concrete pads, wide asphalt roads. We were on the Catoma loop, site 24, and could not have been more pleased. Choose your site carefully based on your needs. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Our first visit to a Corps of Engineers campground was beyond all expectations. From the very nice lady at the front check-in, to the spacious pull-through that was at least 200' away from any other pad, to rest rooms and showers that were Holiday Inn clean. Very small crowd made it feel like we were in a park, and the lake/river is right there.

She told us about the retiree's pass for these parks that cuts the rate in half, so we'll get one of those for the next time. Five Stars.... We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Nice park, well maintained, new, level concrete pads. Full hookups! No wifi. Busy park, lots of families. Also, lots of boat noise & auto racetrack right next to park very loud on weekends. Quiet during week. Great access to Montgomery area civil rights museums & civil rights historic sites, which is why we camped here. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Best groceries were nearby Publix, found super helpful RV service in area at K & K RV.

This Corps of Engineers Campground is only about 15 minutes from the city of Montgomery, Alabama. The roads are paved in one half the park and it has cement pads for RVs. There is hookup for water, electricity (30 & 50 amps), and sewer. The only thing missing is cable TV. With antenna you can pick up 5 or 6 local stations. I would definitely recommend this campground. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Alabama State Capitol and its museum of history.

We have stayed at this campground multiple times! This trip was for my birthday! Even in December it was a pretty full park! We generally love the Antioch side there are not concrete pads or sewers on this side but a dump station on the way out! All roads in the park are paved too! The catoma loop does have the sewers and concrete pads and it is really nice! The park sits on the back waters of the Alabama River It is so gorgeous any time of the year! You can burn fallen wood on your campsite that you find you will find plenty! There are picnic tables, fire ring, grill, and trash poll at every site! Attendants at the guard shack are always super nice and will work with you on any changes in sites you need! We have had to do this when we decided to stay extra days! Park is out of the way a bit but lucky there is a recently built and opened Dollar General just about a mile up from the entrance you can get just about anything you need there! We ran out of dog kibble when we stayed extra so had to make a trip! It was nice to have, plus hubby was able to get ice there too so I did not have to make any in our freezer! Love this park it is my fave here in town and we can easily go any time we need to run away from life for a bit! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is not much to shop at in the area however recently opened a Dollar General just about a mile up from the park entrance! Your gonna have to drive for everything else!

We absolutely love this park. It was nice to be so close to our home but not at home. We are just starting to really get into camping and I would love to stay here full time! We did stay at one of the Catoma sites but much rather be on the other side of the park simply because there is less traffic with people. There was so much traffic with screaming kids at the park that it was hard to just enjoy the river and fire. Also drove our pups crazy but still we has the best time ever! We are planning another trip out there in a week or so as long as it does not rain! Highly recommend if you are looking for some quiet time. Not good cell service or any wifi abilities but if you are not needing that like us then your in the perfect place! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you forgot anything there is a Dollar General about 2 miles up from the park! Helped us when we decided to stay another day and I ran out of kibble for the pups!

Excellent COE park! We stayed in the Catoma Loop and all sites are concrete, full hook-ups. Most will fit any size rig with no problem. Bring everything you need because the trip back out to pick up something is quite a distance. AT&T cell service was poor. Locals fill up the campground on the weekends and it gets really busy. But still worth the trip. We stayed on a site facing the water and will definitely return. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

All the previous reviews are correct. The new Catoma section is beautiful, nicely spaced sites, wide roads, and sufficient for big rigs. The park has wonderful camper hosts and it is overall a very nice peaceful place to camp. All utility hook ups worked as intended with no loss of power even during a horrendous rain storm that lasted all day. The park is not close to stores so bring what you need when you come. Also, the Verizon service is non existent, thus the reason for a 9, not the parks fault. There is an AF base near by, so if that bothers you keep that in mind. We would definitely return to this park. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a delight. Almost all Corps of Engineer facilities are great, and that includes Gunter Hill. There is no Wi-Fi or cable TV hookup, but everything else is superb. The staff is very helpful and the sites are beautiful. The setting on the lake is superb. Everything is spotless. The rate is with the Senior Pass. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.
