Paved roads. One of our favorite. Love the ACOE. No SAT coverage. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Awesome. Only negative is SAT coverage.

Our first visit to a Corps of Engineers campground was beyond all expectations. From the very nice lady at the front check-in, to the spacious pull-through that was at least 200' away from any other pad, to rest rooms and showers that were Holiday Inn clean. Very small crowd made it feel like we were in a park, and the lake/river is right there.

She told us about the retiree's pass for these parks that cuts the rate in half, so we'll get one of those for the next time. Five Stars.... We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Nice park, well maintained, new, level concrete pads. Full hookups! No wifi. Busy park, lots of families. Also, lots of boat noise & auto racetrack right next to park very loud on weekends. Quiet during week. Great access to Montgomery area civil rights museums & civil rights historic sites, which is why we camped here. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Best groceries were nearby Publix, found super helpful RV service in area at K & K RV.

This Corps of Engineers Campground is only about 15 minutes from the city of Montgomery, Alabama. The roads are paved in one half the park and it has cement pads for RVs. There is hookup for water, electricity (30 & 50 amps), and sewer. The only thing missing is cable TV. With antenna you can pick up 5 or 6 local stations. I would definitely recommend this campground. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Alabama State Capitol and its museum of history.

We have stayed at this campground multiple times! This trip was for my birthday! Even in December it was a pretty full park! We generally love the Antioch side there are not concrete pads or sewers on this side but a dump station on the way out! All roads in the park are paved too! The catoma loop does have the sewers and concrete pads and it is really nice! The park sits on the back waters of the Alabama River It is so gorgeous any time of the year! You can burn fallen wood on your campsite that you find you will find plenty! There are picnic tables, fire ring, grill, and trash poll at every site! Attendants at the guard shack are always super nice and will work with you on any changes in sites you need! We have had to do this when we decided to stay extra days! Park is out of the way a bit but lucky there is a recently built and opened Dollar General just about a mile up from the entrance you can get just about anything you need there! We ran out of dog kibble when we stayed extra so had to make a trip! It was nice to have, plus hubby was able to get ice there too so I did not have to make any in our freezer! Love this park it is my fave here in town and we can easily go any time we need to run away from life for a bit! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is not much to shop at in the area however recently opened a Dollar General just about a mile up from the park entrance! Your gonna have to drive for everything else!

We absolutely love this park. It was nice to be so close to our home but not at home. We are just starting to really get into camping and I would love to stay here full time! We did stay at one of the Catoma sites but much rather be on the other side of the park simply because there is less traffic with people. There was so much traffic with screaming kids at the park that it was hard to just enjoy the river and fire. Also drove our pups crazy but still we has the best time ever! We are planning another trip out there in a week or so as long as it does not rain! Highly recommend if you are looking for some quiet time. Not good cell service or any wifi abilities but if you are not needing that like us then your in the perfect place! We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you forgot anything there is a Dollar General about 2 miles up from the park! Helped us when we decided to stay another day and I ran out of kibble for the pups!

Excellent COE park! We stayed in the Catoma Loop and all sites are concrete, full hook-ups. Most will fit any size rig with no problem. Bring everything you need because the trip back out to pick up something is quite a distance. AT&T cell service was poor. Locals fill up the campground on the weekends and it gets really busy. But still worth the trip. We stayed on a site facing the water and will definitely return. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

All the previous reviews are correct. The new Catoma section is beautiful, nicely spaced sites, wide roads, and sufficient for big rigs. The park has wonderful camper hosts and it is overall a very nice peaceful place to camp. All utility hook ups worked as intended with no loss of power even during a horrendous rain storm that lasted all day. The park is not close to stores so bring what you need when you come. Also, the Verizon service is non existent, thus the reason for a 9, not the parks fault. There is an AF base near by, so if that bothers you keep that in mind. We would definitely return to this park. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a delight. Almost all Corps of Engineer facilities are great, and that includes Gunter Hill. There is no Wi-Fi or cable TV hookup, but everything else is superb. The staff is very helpful and the sites are beautiful. The setting on the lake is superb. Everything is spotless. The rate is with the Senior Pass. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Excellent COE CG for larger motor homes. Catoma Loop has paved, full-hookup sites, some with a nice water view. We stayed at site 55, a pull-through which easily accommodated our 42' RV. Restrooms in Catoma Loop were clean and had plenty of hot water. Showers closest to our site had individual locking privacy doors. Sites on the Antioch Loop are more rustic, less level and more suited to smaller RVs. Price shown reflects Access Pass discount. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

This park is an excellent place to stay. There is a 14 day limit per month. The sites are paved and level. I only had to put down my jacks to stabilize the coach. All the sites are full hook-ups and my site had excellent water pressure. I did have a power surge that tripped my circuit breaker. The Catoma area is the best place to camp, the Antioc loop is very wooded, has narrow sites and is overgrown with brush. The only drawback to the park is the distance from any sizable town (Montgomery), about 10 miles. The trees prevent using my satellite dish, but the antenna worked just fine. I stayed here for a week and would come back again if I was in the area. The $12 rate reflects the Golden Age Passport rate. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

The rate reflects a 50% senior discount for a full-hookup site in the Catoma Loop. This park stinks, literally. That is unfortunate since it is otherwise a very nice park, but the smell from the nearby paper mill caused what would otherwise have been a 9 to be a 3. The campground has two loops. All interior roads in the campground are paved. The newer, full-hookup loop is the Catoma loop. The sites are large concrete sites with picnic table and fire ring in a nicely designed and maintained gravel area. A few of the sites have some views of the water, but none have a really spectacular water view. The Antioch Loop is older and the sites are dirt/gravel with a rather haphazard layout. This would not be a good choice for a larger RV. There are electric and water hookups with a dump station. The positive is that it has a much calmer feel than the very-busy Catoma loop. It is also less expensive with a standard rate of $18. There are a few small hiking trails, but not major hiking or biking possibilities. Since the park is close to Montgomery, it gets a lot of local folks that stay for extended periods of time. The campground has heavy tree cover but we were able to find a hole for satellite. Verizon is spotty, but we had good phone and data at our site. We were very pleased to have selected the park when we first pulled in. We did notice a bit of what we thought was a sewer odor. However, during the night the smell became very intense, enough to be nauseating. We thought that there must be a major sewer leak. We found out the next morning about the nearby paper mill so it was toxic chemicals not sewer. As the day warmed up, the smell subsided by mid-morning. Unfortunately, this smell would be enough to keep us away from the park. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

We were here over Easter break and could not get a site in the newer area which has FHU sites more suitable to big rigs. We were in older part of campground. We had a large site, but the roads are a bit narrow. If we come back, we would only stay in the newer section. We had a 50 amp water and electric site only which backed up to the lake and had nice views. Too many trees to put out our satellite. This is a pretty park with lots of trees and pretty views. We would definitely stay here again in the newer section. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

What a great place to camp. I can't add much to the previous reviews, except that we noticed a strong sewer odor in parts of the new area. Not sure if it is always that way or they were just cleaning something out. Anyway, it lingered all night. AT&T wireless service was good with three bars of LTE coverage. Data service worked great. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Only stayed 1 night here but wished we could've stayed longer, beautiful Corp of Engineers park. We had preregistered so we just drove straight to our site when we arrived, they had a little red reserved tag clipped to the post by our site. The park is clean and well maintained, asphalt roads and sites, huge amount of space between sites, all utilities worked well, we had a 100ft pull through with an awesome view of the lake. I guess the only negative for me was I had to go about 10 miles into Montgomery to get fuel, food or groceries would have been even further but most folks who use this park will not be concerned with this issue. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.
