No reservations taken here. They say it stays mostly open but some weekend events can fill it up. Call ahead. They will tell you to go pick a spot and call it in. Pay close attention to the camp map. The sites with full hookups are 50 amp only. I didnt pay attention after completely setting up and making that discovery. Leveling necessary on nearly every site up to as much as 3 and 4 inches. Lost of shade and openness. You have to pay for a day (1 day) pass even with the camp fee. You have complete freedom of the archeological park all night even after closing to the public if you want to commune with the ancient spirits. The museum is excellent. We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Travel Trailer.

Angle will check you in and give you lots of information - great personally and very good with people. The final fee includes and campsite rate plus the park admission fee for each person. Campground is old and is scheduled for a make-over. Hook ups are mostly on the wrong side for RVs. The bath/shower building is clean and everything works. Specific sites are difficult to locate so we just parked on the grass near our hook ups. Some pull-thrus, some sites with sewer, the community dump is worthless and impossible to use. We dumped in an unoccupied site that had a sewer hookup. We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The great thing about this park are the ancient indian mounds (28) from the Mississippian Culture. Lots of history here and a wonderful museum. Worth the time to visit.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a week while visiting in area. Kind of a primitive area but for the price you cannot complain. People were very helpful with park information as well as area information. Only problem was the front gate lock if you came in after park closed. It was a combination lock and extremely hard to open. Other than gate lock loved this place. Coming in at night I have never seen the number of deer as this place has at night. Will stay here again. We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Fairly good campground in large park. Camping area is away from crowds and is very quiet and peaceful. Clean with some full hookups. Sites look rustic but are well equipped. Not well advertised, we found out by word of mouth. Were not told that there was also an entrance fee to the park. $8.00 regular/7.00 senior. Would not hesitate to stay again. Overall Rating:

Nightly rate is in addition to admission to the archaeological park ($7 each for seniors) which is charged only the first day. The museum (included in admission) is neat and I wish we had be able to spend more time with the stucents who were working on a Summer School dig. We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here 8 years ago and wanted to see if they had put any money into the campground by now. The answer is no with the exception of some light bulbs. Also a warning if you are going to stay just one night the cost is $22. They charge $5 per person but only the first night; after that it is $12. For one night stay go to the nearby State Park. We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

You overlook a multi acre, grassed, mound covered field, but sit in the trees. The 50 amp sites were difficult to level a motor home, however a 5th wheels should not have this problem. The museum is very informative--seems likes an isolated spot--but you are very close to the town. We would camp there again! We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Enjoyed my stay (2 weeks). You are only supposed to stay 14 days max, but they have people living there full time which isn't good. And, if you ask, you could stay longer. Not supervised and not many people staying there, so it can feel like you are pretty isolated. We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: August, 2006 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is located inside the Moundville Archaeological Park, which is located about 15 miles south of Tuscaloosa on Hwy 69. The 32 gravel sites, some mostly dirt, all have water and electric hook-ups. All the hookups I saw were on the wrong side of the site. There are a few sites near the front that have sewage. Of the sewages sites, #6 is the only one with appreciable shade. Some of the sites are a little short for most RV's. But, there are plenty of big sites. This is a perfect park for bicycling as there is a big loop road that is flat. Except for the train crossing that is about .5 mile away, this park is very quiet at night. The train never woke us up. Since there isn't much to do here except tour the museum and mounds, this is a great place to sit back and relax. We camped at Moundville Archaeological Park in a Fifth Wheel.
