Older campground with very few large sites. Lots of long-term campers. It worked for an overnight stop. Easy to find, friendly staff, laundry room was nice and clean. Utilities worked well. Although close to interstate, we didn't hear any noise. Would stay again for an overnight. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Our 50 amp power plug was falling off the pedestal. Site was, at one time, concrete (probably while it was a KOA). Now it is broken up with ruts and dips. Very over priced for what it is. I will not be returning if I can help it. Tight turning radius. Most spaces taken up by seasonal/permanent trailers. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Just used the park for an overnighter. Didn't use any of the park facilities. Most site appeared to be pull thru. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is obviously an old KOA, with emphasis on old. There are signs the owners are trying to make some improvements, and they will be welcomed. The sites are spacious and our pull-through was long enough that I could hook up the car and get it ready to tow without having to move the motorhome. The wifi was strong. All of the utilities worked well. All of this made up for the cracked asphalt on our site and on the roads. There are two downsides of this site. One is beyond the ability of the owners to do anything about - there is an active rail line about 1/4 mile air distance from the park. While the train noise did not bother me in the least, it might others, so I want to note that just in case someone might care. I rather liked the trains. The other big factor is that the owners will NOT allow check-in prior to noon. They will not even check to see if your site is available. If you arrive before noon, you'll be told to go somewhere else until noon. They were, in fact, quite rude to me when I arrive about 90 minutes early. When I went away and then came back after noon, it was a totally different experience. Everyone was very welcoming an courteous. So, do expect to see some changes for the better, do expect a convenient place to park while seeing Birmingham, but don't dare show up before noon. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Birmingham is famous for Vulcan, of course, and has an excellent zoo. Oak Mountain State Park has great recreational facilities. Pelham is literally just over the hill from the campground and has plenty of shopping of all sorts.

Ok for overnight stay. Somewhat dated park but convenient to 1-65 and 10 miles south of Birmingham. Stayed overnight in pull through site 52. Interior roads are paved. Sites have asphalt pads in poor shape and a picnic table. My site was not level and electrical box at far end of site that I could not reach with my power cable. Fortunately I carry a 15 ft 50amp extension. Most sites have lots of trees but my site was open enough to get satellite. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Speed bumps in entrance were a bit high, creeping across still jarred everything. Interior roads need upkeep. It is a Good Sam park now but was a KOA. Site was no where near level. Used 4 inches of block under front tires to level. A cement block was provided to place on top of sewer to hold in place. It has a tired look to it but we were only staying one night so it was adequate. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice staff and well stocked store. Our site was easy to turn into but there were others that had interesting experiences. Our satellite setup was easy but there were others where it would be impossible because of trees. Good ATT and convenient shopping areas. That being said it is VERY noisy in the AM. Everyone in the surrounding area must go to work on a Harley or a truck with no muffler between 5:30 AM- 6:30 AM! We carry an external wifi adapter and were able to get a good signal but the wifi itself was one step above useless. We do not stream movies etc, just email and some surfing. It would sometimes take 3-4 minutes to load a site if you didn't get dropped first. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here in a 40' MH with toad. Relatively easy to access. Staff was polite and efficient during check-in. Interior roads were rough but adequate (just have to go very slow because of ruts and steepness). Some pads were paved, others were packed gravel. Many were shaded but seemed to be mostly occupied by longterm residents. Our site was without shade but satellite friendly. Did not use the laundry and bathhouse but checked on them. They were dated but very clean with many separate shower rooms. Power at our site was marginal with one leg dropping to 109v during warm periods. Wifi was better than most and was adequate for checking email and light web-surfing. Cable offered but we did not use. Many OTA stations available. There were nearby trains that created quite a bit of early morning noise. Seems best for easy highway access for short stays. We would use it again. Unlevel campsite. Paved but sloped downhill and to one side. Lots of low hanging tree branches. Asked to have branches trimmed and they were trimmed. Required 30 ft sewer hose. Dirty shower stalls. Ok for overnight stop. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Decent older park that needs some maintenance. We had no problems except getting level, and that was doable. A number of sites looked like they have the same problem. OK to stay now but they need to start working on some things. Asphalt roads and concrete pads are starting to crumble. Power pedestal had seen better days but it works. Cable TV was out completely. Verizon signal was weak but usable. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a difficult park to rate. There are some sites that are average while others are well below average. This is the 2nd time we have overnighted here in 3 years and I saw no improvements from 2.5 years ago. The perk is still a worn down old KOA. It is a convenient place relative to I-65 to stop and that's about it. There are many restaurants and stores within about 3 miles which adds to the convenience. They have a nice pool and the showers appear clean although nothing fancy. There are several long term residents and several rough looking sites. They have WiFi, but I didn't try using it. There is no cable TV offered, which I would expect at $40/night. This should be priced at less than $35/night before discount for what is offered. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Listen, it's not a bad place. Just not a great place. It needs some serious repaving and the spaces are tight for a big rig to get into (but I did it!) because one side is flanked by random concrete (broken up) and the other by railroad ties that encompass the hookups. The power was steady, and we can pull some amps, but the Wi-Fi was like most and slooooow. We didn't use the bathrooms. Nice staff, delivered a package for us after hours. We will likely stay again, but I'm gonna gripe about being too expensive for what it is. If they paved the place and removed the barriers to getting into a site it would easily be worth the $42. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

It rained a lot while we were there, and some sites were flooded and had to move during the night. The sewer overflowed. Not a pretty campground but convenient. The cable did not work when we were there. Internet was slow, but usable. Not the most friendliest staff. We seemed to be bothering them when we got in, and everyone in the front desk stopped to listen to our conversation with the clerk. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed at Birmingham South several times as an overnight stop for one night. Good location for restaurants, fuel, etc. The restrooms and shower facilities are the cleanest you will ever see in a commercial RV park. The Wi-Fi works very well. There are several full time residents here. The cable television hasn't worked the last three times we stopped here. Several of the sites are not level. The asphalt is breaking up a lot on many sites and the concrete walk in front of each site is also in bad shape on many of the sites. For $42.00 per night for 50AMP is a little more than I want to pay until they work on the cable and sites. Will probably stay a little further down the road for a lot less. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
