This is an Alabama State Park campground located 10-12 miles south of Birmingham. Convenient to shopping and restaurants from either the south or north park entrance. We spent 3 nights on the A side of the campground. Nice, tranquil setting. We were assigned a "pull along" site for our motorhome and toad. I wanted to get a site where trees would not block my roof mounted satellite and they gave me a site that worked well, however, the pad had deep tracks of broken asphalt. Full hookups with 30 amp electric service. Site A22. Paid $31.63 per night with taxes and fees. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice state park. Some sites are small for big rigs, but most will accommodate them. Sites are level and paved with asphalt. Sewer connections and electrical good location. Some sites do not have sewer. Most on the A side do. The B side looks like that sites are close and not all have sewer. Lots of trees and shade. During stay severe weather was expected. Rangers and staff came to every campsite with information about shelters, radio and TV stations to use for updated weather reports. They were very concerned about guest safety. We will stay again. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure to visit the wildlife rescue center. No cost. Numerous small injured wildlife and birds being cared for. Also an elevated wooden walking trail with large cages of birds that are too injured to be released. Staff checks them daily.

Average, older State Park. All except a few sites on the B side are pretty bad - too closely spaced and unlevel. The A side is better spacing, but still a little tight. Some sites on the A side are really unlevel front to back. Pull through sites are short. Watch out for "backward sites", there are quite a few.

This CG looks like it is a formerly "all tent" CG, and they ran utilities to some of the parking spaces for the tent sites. Typically, the RV parking space is narrow, and the "sitting area" for the associated RV site is separated from the RV. Sometimes as much as 100 feet. And, some of the tent sites that could not be converted are still there. So, it makes for a strange layout, because the tent sites are scattered among, and between, the RV sites.

The bathrooms are functional but small, in need of updating, but relatively clean.

Most sites in the A area are full hookup, but only 30 amp power. Water pressure was 40 psi, Verizon coverage = 3/5 bars, satellite availability is varied because of a heavy tree coverage. Good local TV stations.

Excellent large park with lots to do for the kids - beach, hiking/bike trails, BMX track, fishing, etc. Also, tons of shopping within close driving range of the park.

I will not stay at Oak Mountain again unless I need close access to Birmingham, and then, only if I can get a decent site on the A side. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Large, beautiful park. The campground is 6 miles from the park entrance. Easy access off I-65, but far enough away so that you don't hear road noise. Our site was a pull-through but was very small and the sewer hookup was within inches of the picnic table! We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Very few sites can fit our 45' motorhome and without 50 amp service a summer stay is out of the question - that Alabama heat and humidity. It's a beautiful location though, nice walking/biking trails. Long drive (about 5 miles) from the main park entrance to the campground. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

This is in our backyard - but we visit it often. They have a fabulous public golf course, bird sanctuary, small museum of animal displays/habitat and even a small petting farm. The beach has many activities including swimming, beach volleyball and paddle boat rentals. Many bike and walking trails and just a beautiful park to get in. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Just south of Birmingham, AL, there is the Galleria & Summit close by for shopping and many nice restaurants, but the park itself is nice enough to stay for 3-4 days without getting bored. Even an antique store is close that has a bit of everything.

The spaces around the perimeter have more shade and privacy. We were in the center, but still the spaces were wide enough, just no privacy. The spaces were paved with asphalt which was great considering the rain. It was level and had full hook ups. The place was well maintained. The park is in a built up area near shopping and restaurants but the campground is 5.5 miles into the park at 35mph so it takes awhile to get in and out. The park has a lot of amenities including a lake, trails and a golf course. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate was for 3 Adults. State Park with a lot of amenities for families. We were passing thru. Book 2 nights but left after 1 as could not get any wi-fi or TV. A beautiful park which is quiet and close to shopping, restaurants, golf courses etc. We were there when it was very quiet with not many in the area. Plenty of space around our bitumen site. It is a good 5 mile drive into the park so take care and don't miss the turn into the campground. Stayed in 38ft motorhome with tow. This stop suited our purposes but would be ideal for families. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of the nicest parks we stayed in on out journey through the southeastern US. It is high upon a hill outside of Birmingham. Has a golf course and recreational area attached. Watch the turn at the entrance. If you are not careful you will wind up down a private dirt road and have a difficult time getting back out (first hand experience). You are in close proximity of Birmingham an up and coming urban city being rebuilt with tons of history if you are willing to do some research. Avondale on the eastern side of the city is the trendy area with good eats and fine entertainment. Do the civil rights walk and visit the museum for a look back. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

I paid about $30/night for W/E only, and the price increases on the weekend. Seems a bit expensive to me for a state park, but I understand their budget cut from the state is not very good and needs some form of revenue. We were here back in the fall and enjoy the park. We do work over the internet so Verizon coverage is essential for us. We started on the A side of the campground but LTE data was intermittant and couldn't do our job, so we switched sites to the B side where both Verizon and tv antennae signal were stronger. We were practically by ourselves during the week, but the campground filled up for the weekend. Volunteers parole the campground often and constantly busy with maintenance, doing a good job. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive past the beach in the park to the end of the road, and then continue driving on the dirt road at the very end for 4 miles to the top of Oak Mountain. Great view up at the lookout point. Keep driving, and then hike ½ mile to Peavine Falls. It has been raining a lot so it was nice and full for us.

Not much has changed from recent reports except: East gate on Cahaba Valley DR is now open in the winter until five PM and that is good news. New Park management has decided on 4PM check-in time. Something we have not experienced in almost 50,000 miles of camping. Planning and driving a big rig to meet 4PM arrival time in Birmingham rush hour traffic! Been coming here once or twice a year for over five years and will come again. Price is with water, electric, sewer and 15% senior discount. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

This park is a great place to visit! So many activities to enjoy here such as horseback riding, fishing, canoeing, hiking, a waterfall, etc. There is no weekly rate, only monthly during their off-season. The daily rate increases over the weekend, $28 is the average we're paying for water/elec only. Sewer is $3 extra, but there is a dump station if you don't need FHU. Electric is 30 amp. There are many volunteers who live here and they keep the place immaculately clean, and have been very friendly and helpful (had a couple of issues happen in our RV). Every site has a picnic table and metal firepit with grill cover, sites are pretty level and most are paved. There is lots of shade parking and plenty of bath houses so no one is walking too far to use one. Only 2 of the houses on the B campground has coin-operated laundry, this is the only area I noticed that doesn't get cleaned often. The layout of the campsites allow you to feel more private - not too cramped. We parked in B19 which is at the very end of the row, with a short walk to the bath house w/ laundry and the lake. We can actually see the water through the trees from this spot. For those with Verizon, I can't seem to get service anywhere in the park except for the campground - I get 2-3 signal bars and actually get LTE data here! The website says there is wifi but it hasn't been working for months - the only place with working free wifi is the Snack Bar next to the golf course. We love it here so we extended our stay for a few more days. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful park, lots of amenities and very pet friendly with lots of nice dog walking spaces. Super friendly and helpful staff. Clean and well maintained. Get there before dark, as there is five miles of winding road from the park gate to the campground. Road is paved and wide and easy to navigate, but signs are hard to see in the dark. It's a little drive to get here from I-65 but worth it. This is a beautiful park. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice shady and fairly level sites but were still able to use our satellite. Wi-Fi didn't work for us and very weak phone signal. If I lived in this area, I would come here a lot. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.
