2 Parks near Spanish Fort, Alabama
Nov 2014 - $30.00
Contrary to the listing, it can accommodate up to 45' big rigs on some sites; the smallest site will fit a 30' rig. The RV sites have been updated recently and are all gravel. Most are level. It's a beautiful rustic setting by a river, NOT a resort. It draws a few fulltimers but park policy is to limit the number of these so that there are spaces for recreational campers readily available. Very helpful staff. Feels very secluded, but only 5 miles from major shopping areas. - nationcruiser
Mar 2014 - $30.00
An underdeveloped state park campground. Wooded, hilly, with dirt/gravel road, with widely separated semicircular pull-through sites that conform to the sloping terrain, i.e., uneven, needing leveling. They did have water/sewer/electric by the site. Did not see a bathhouse. There was a historic battle here with an old town site a mile away. Not much to see. At $30 overpriced. Strictly an expensive overnight stop. There is a Meaher Alabama state park south about 7 miles that is much superior, that I didn't know of. - 210jem
Sep 2013 - $1.00
We did not stay here, but drove through on Labor day weekend. The CG is very "unimproved." The roads are gravel, steep and washed out, and while there is full hook ups, it looks like someone went through with a dozer, cleared off some semi circle areas and put in full hook ups. This could be a jem if they ever go through and level out the sites, asphalt the roads and RV sites and asphalt the historic park. To us it looks like it is run on the bare minimum of dollars, such a shame. That said, if you have a smaller rig, say under 28 foot, do not mind being unlevel but like the place to yourself, you may love this park! We went through on Labor Day weekend and saw maybe 2 or 3 units. I would not recommend this as a big rig campground even though some of the pull throughs are huge. The turns are tight and you have trees to contend with as well. - buffy
Nov 2015 - $28.00
Electric and water were fine. Sewer hookup is in a good location, but most people will find it slightly uphill. Be prepared for dealing with ants. They have a pest control service, but a week or so after they have treated, you will see parades of ants again. You will need powder or other treatment especially if you plan to stay any length of time. Sunsets over I-10 can be lovely. There is a WIFI network, but the employees tell me it is not working and would not provide a password. Broadcast TV is sketchy. We never got NBC and the ABC station came and went. All in all not a bad park, but if visiting again would stay east of Fairhope. - ramblin' vagabonds

First let me state I am a resident of the state of Alabama and support the troubled State Park system. So please find my loving intention here.
I reviewed this State Park November, 2014. A year later, not much has changed. The overall condition and appearance of the grounds have improved. The grass was cut and the pine cones and needles have been raked. The location and layout of this park is great. It makes for a very relaxing stop for a few days with lots to do in the area, especially for us mature campers. The view of Mobile Bay and skyline is very nice.
But other than that, I am sorry to say, much is the same. The bath house is a mess and so was the laundry. Floors were dirty, shower curtains moldy and washing machine tubs with rusty rings.
The bathhouse and laundry condition notwithstanding, there is one reason I will not return to this park: ANTS. Sugar ants are everywhere and will be in you RV and or tow vehicle within minutes of parking. Last year we were warned at check-in about the problem and luckily had some insecticide to stave off the ants. Nothing was said during check-in for this visit but I sprayed and put out granular insecticide anyway. Ants were in the trailer and truck within hours. Perhaps nothing can be done about the problem but I will bypass this lovely State Park until this situation is addressed. This is a pity because Meaher has a lot of potential and it's sad to see it in this condition. - bamawig
Aug 2015 - $35.00
We love this park have stayed here several times and always choose it when when traveling through Mobile. It's quiet, close to shopping and services, easy off and on I-10. The sites are full hookup, there is a fishing pier, laundry facilities and boat launch. Highly recommend this park. - jano-staugustine
