Just an overnight stop, could definitely stay longer. Not far from I-10, but didn't hear road noise. Had site 34 which was super long. The rig across from us left so we had unobstructed water view. There are fishing piers and a beach. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in our 25' class c motorhome in this beautiful and small-ish state park right on Mobile Bay. Our site was a back-in on the bay (Site 27). Absolutely spectacular spot to view sunset directly behind downtown Mobile skyline. Nice fishing pier and boardwalk as well as a few short walking trails within the park. Any of the spots along the water will be great. They have plenty of space between sights though nothing between them to create any sort of privacy. We only stayed a couple of days but we could have stayed a couple of weeks. You are a little distance from anything other than some seafood restaurants and the USS Alabama Battleship museum so plan accordingly. There is some talk and warning of Argentine ants but we had no problems. Park seems to be doing a good job with controlling the problem. We would and probably WILL stay here again. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Motorhome.

The campground was extremely clean. The person checking us in was helpful and efficient. The sites are very widely spaced so there is a feeling of privacy. The sites are paved and level. There are no fire pits but there are tables and grills at each site. There is a lovely view of the bay and nice piers for sunset views. The campground is between I-10 and 90 so there is always some highway noise, but it is not overwhelming. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This my third review of Meaher State Park in the 4 past years. The first 2 were accurate but not very kind. I'm happy to say things have changed! The bath house/laundry was clean with a new coat of paint and the washers and dryers were clean and appeared to be in good shape. This is a very nice park with large comfortable paved sites with paved patios. The staff was inviting and professional. The park was clean, neat and orderly. This is a nice place to relax for a few days, enjoy some great seafood, beautiful sunsets over Mobile bay and a peaceful atmosphere. Ants have always been a problem here. BUT, a contractor has been hired and is working on controlling/eliminating them. We had no problems with ants this trip. In fact, I don't think I saw the first ant over the 3 days we were there. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

First time here VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE! This is a small campground located right on Mobile Bay. I-10 crosses it and the city skyline is in the background. It has many tall, pruned, pine trees providing lots of shade and there is always a breeze from the bay. The staff keeps it immaculate, very clean, and staff is very helpful. All sites are back in on asphalt throughout the entire park. We had site number 19 which backed up to the water. They are very spacious and easy to maneuver in. We had 50 amp, water, and sewer (water pressure was around 40 ). Good WiFi but, don't expect to stream on it. There is no store but, Spainish Fort is just a couple miles away, the ranger station does have ice for sale. If you have pets be aware of the sand spurs getting in their fur and if you are close to the water the alligators are close by - most are in the 6 - 10' range. There are two really nice fishing docks and I am told fishing is good. We would definitely stay here again if ever back this way. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fantastic park right on the water. Fishing if you like. Two ladies and gent at the gate were great. Spotless, quiet, peaceful. Will never pass thru Mobile without staying here for a week at least. Unusual state park in that it has sewer hookups at site. Sites VERY spacious. On top of all else two gators patrolled the waters behind us to protect from terror attacks. :-) We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Staff very friendly when we checked in. The park is gated, but you have a code so you can come and go as you want. Sites are asphalt and showing age, but still very clean. Very easy to maneuver in, BUT you might miss the entrance if not paying attention. There are signs indicating you are almost there, but the sign at the actual entrance is small. Very close to restaurants and groceries. There are warnings about ants, but we did not have any issues. We would stay here again for sure! We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

As a place to stay when visiting the area, this state park worked out very well. Full hookups for $26/night with decent sized, level, paved sites, easy access to I-10, and just a couple miles from lots of stores. As a destination of its own, it was pretty disappointing. The state park is tiny -- it's just the campground and a boat launch. There are no trails or things to do or see. Across from the campground is a row of RVs in storage, and the short road to the maintenance building is lined with old boats and RVs in disrepair. Apart from walking the campground loop, there was no place to walk our dog since the park was so small. We found another local park across the highway which has slightly better walking opportunities, but crossing US-98 on foot turned out to be pretty risky (no traffic light or crossing at the campground entrance), and that park (including trails) closed at 5pm daily. While outside, there was some constant traffic noise from nearby I-10, but it wasn't audible when inside. They did warn us about the ant problem, and we did spot a few inside the motorhome, but our diatomaceous earth did a good job protecting us from them. The campground gate is locked at night, and there's no gate code -- you have to call the camp host to let you in. Verizon worked well, AT&T was slower but still usable. Reservations must be made by phone. Compared to most commercial RV parks, Meaher State Park was cheaper and with larger sites, but compared to the dozens of other state parks we've stayed in across the country, it was lacking. Now that we know what to expect, we'd return for a very short stay either when passing through or visiting Mobile, but we wouldn't plan an extended stay. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Really nice small State Park, right on the water. Four inches of rain yesterday so some of the grounds were flooded, but none of the sites or roads. Very nice large sites with full hooks ups. Sites really easy to back into, and almost level. Plenty of room and the park is very nice. Grounds are well kept, the staff very nice, and there is a locked front gate at night with an access code. Only negative is the WIFI is VERY slow -- .1 MPS down. Verizon is fairly good here for the hotspot is fine. TV OTA is ok. 16-25 stations depending on where the antenna is pointing. Most signals are good-weak. They do warn about ants, so bring Boric acid to spread around the parts of your coach that touch the ground. Interior roads are excellent, big units will have no issues here. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This campground is located right at the top of Mobile Bay, between Mobile and Spanish Fort, Alabama. It is spacious and open, with well-spaced long-needle pine trees that provide a "just right" mixture of shade and sun. The piered bridge that carries I10 across the bay, mars the beauty ever so slightly, but it is easily ignored. The camp sites are roomy and well separated. The sites right on the bay are all back-in. My site had a pull-through loop off the main entry road, but it was quite satisfactory. I had ample room to park my truck in front of the trailer. There are plenty of opportunities to get good seafood in the neighborhood. I had a delicious lunch of grilled shrimp at Ed's Seafood Shed, just down the road. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We missed the park on our first pass by the day we checked in, but had no problem finding it after that. The Pros: Nice layout, excellent location(incredible sunsets), spacious sites, concrete pads were level, plenty of parking for the tow vehicle. heated restrooms and showers that were also immaculate. The only con was there was no wifi or cable, but my Verizon hot spot took care of the wifi and there were plenty of local stations receivable from there. Neither would be a deal breaker. We'd go back any time we were in the area. The staff was also extremely accommodating. The staff took care of us when we arrived and checked on us periodically to make sure all was well. She was really a delight. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here last minute to escape Hurricane Irma. The people were great. It was very clean. Lots were spacious with lots of shade. We had a beautiful view of the water and the sunset. The only reason we didn't give it a "10" is the ants. We read before about the need to spray but probably didn't spray enough. The ants are everywhere. Spray all things touching the ground & the outside of your camper! Get Home Defense & Comet & cover the outside of your RV as soon as you arrive! We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for an overnight. Glad we did. It was very clean and had level sites. Paved roads throughout. Although we didn't get to fish, it looked like a great place to. Later we heard from a local that there were alligators there. Didn't see any, but watch yourself and pets. When we are back in the area, we'll stay here again.
