I'm not exactly sure how to rate this campground. On one hand, it had a special ambiance to it that took us back in time to the 1960's. It it a quiet, family-oriented campground with all of the basic necessities. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the Caverns and Homestead exhibit were an added bonus. On the other hand, we felt like the campground was in disrepair. I'm sure being a small family run campground, that funds are tight to do improvements. However, they could increase their business by 200 percent if they would invest some money into it's appearance. My negative comments would include unlevel sites which are too close to each other, and the need to upgrade the bathhouse. My positive comments would include the beautiful scenery, nice pool and location with area attractions. We camped at Sequoyah Caverns & Ellis Homestead (CLOSED) in a Travel Trailer.

It is with reluctance I give this park a 6. There is a real dicotomy here. Start with the Pluses: Great location, quiet, recently part of Passport America (hence low rate), Wi-Fi (but only at picnic pavillion near cave entrance), lots of shade and room for kids, tent sites, lots to do at campground with caverns and woodworking and living history displays, close to Mentone and Fort Payne. Minuses: tight sites, some significant leveling issues, tight turns on gravel roads, steep grade in/out, dump station not on level surface and in disrepair, lack of hot water in showers (tepid at best, pilot light went out we were told), most of the sites could use some attention of some sort. We stopped here to visit the area, and were happy with choice. Take time to visit caverns and chat with family members. If you have PA, it is a GREAT deal. But if you have a big rig, are not comfortable on narrow roads, have trouble backing, then this may not be your cup of tea. I really want to see them succeed and keep this facility open. With the temporary closure of State Park campground for renovations, hopefully increased business will provide capital to make the improvements needed to bring this up to a 8 or 9 with out a lot of effort. We camped at Sequoyah Caverns & Ellis Homestead (CLOSED) in a Motorhome.

We are giving this campground a 7 only because it really needs some updating and upkeep. The caverns are great (our guide was very knowledgeable) , as is the animals, pool and the quiet area. At check in the people weren't too friendly. The bathrooms weren't cleaned and there wasn't a lot of hot water. I don't think that we will go back We camped at Sequoyah Caverns & Ellis Homestead (CLOSED) in a Travel Trailer.

Very clean and nice park but a bit tight with a larger (36') rig. The back-ins are very wooded, the pull-throughs mostly in the sun. The cavern shouldn't be missed. Don't let the sign on the roof of the building in the junkyard a mile or so up Route 11 scare you. The sign was there long before the junked cars. Great park for the nature lovers. Very clean park. Pull throughs plus a few other good sites but some would be hard for a big trailer to get in. Caverns are very nice. A great wood carver on the property. We would return. We camped at Sequoyah Caverns & Ellis Homestead (CLOSED) in a Travel Trailer.

This is such a wonderful, quiet campground. Most sites are nicely shaded. The bathrooms were always clean. My kids loved watching the oxen at work and enjoyed the peacock that would visit our campsite. The caverns are fantastic and if you're up for some muddy adventure, you MUST do the wild cave tour.
