We made reservations on the road and were accommodated nicely for late arrival. They provided us the lock code for the gate and left reservation info at the office. RV sites are small, not very level, and difficult to pull into. The facilities, while old, were clean and fine for an overnight stay. What makes this location unique and worth the hassle getting to is the cave formation tour. Yes, it's expensive at $15 a head but worth the short walk from the RV sites. Staff seemed a but disinterested and not very encouraging or proud of the coolness of this location. We have stayed here twice by sheer accident, traveling from Chicago to Florida and only discovered the caves the second time. We camped at Rickwood Caverns State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice state park. A little off the beaten path but worth the drive about 4 miles off the interstate. Very clean and quiet and beautiful surroundings. Didn't tour the cave but sounds interesting. Good water and electric hookups; no sewer but a dump station is available. Showers and restroom facilities available but the showers are just pool showers; concrete floors and minimal privacy. Weekend reservations (Friday & Saturday) require a 2 night minimum stay. There are several geocaches here if you enjoy that sport. Would stay again. We camped at Rickwood Caverns State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This state park was extremely well kept. Other than one other trailer we were the only ones in the park so it was very quiet. We only stayed one night. The price was right, with water and electricity. Perfect night! The Caves were closed, but we didn't go for the tour, just to park overnight on our way to Texas. We camped at Rickwood Caverns State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rickwood is small with the only attractions being the cavern, 1.25 mile hiking trail (which is pretty), and pool (which was not yet open when I stayed). Site had a nice "backyard" were the kids were able to run around while playing ball and Frisbee. Power from the pedestal was weak, and it kept going out even with just the TV on. Luckily it was cool enough that we didn't need our AC, but had we needed it there simply wasn't enough power to run it. Playground was nice with swings, teeter-totters, and monkey bars. Although the kids thought jumping on the rocks was even more fun. Cave tour lasts about an hour and was nice, but once you do that there isn't much else to do other than "gem mining" which takes all of five minutes. This is an alcohol free park. We camped at Rickwood Caverns State Park in a Motorhome.

Very small State Park as other campers have stated in other reviews. Have to check in a ranger office then drive back to area of park entrance for campground location. Campground sites are tight and all back in. Only 4 campers there for our visit. Park personnel very pleasant and helpful. Can walk entire park in about 10-15 mins. Did not visit caverns. Pool, snack bar, gift shop closed during visit. Enjoyed the peace and quiet time. Would visit again if in area We camped at Rickwood Caverns State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here will attending a baseball tournament in Gardendale, which is about 10
minutes away. The campground is pretty small, as there are only 13 sites. Furthermore, some of the sites are very close together. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed our short two night stay here. There is a small ride-on train that encircles the campground, which I thought was unusual and neat. A large swimming pool is only a short distance from the campground. On busy days, the pool can be a little noisy. The neatest activity is to tour the underground caverns. The area is very scenic and clean. The park managers were also very nice. If you are interested in the activities and seeing the caverns, along with a little relaxation, this is a very nice park to visit. If you are looking for a very quiet campground, this is probably not the place to go unless it's on a day when the train and pool are closed (seasonal). We camped at Rickwood Caverns State Park in a Travel Trailer.
