This is not a resort! You are off the grid. You come here to experience what life is like in so many remote places in Alaska. I loved this campground. As in all of Chicken, the campground is serviced by a generator. I did not find it that noisy and it worked well, providing the campground with 20 and 30 amp electricity. They did have water to fill your tank, but they asked you to bring your water with you from Dawson City or Tok. They also request that you take your garbage with you when you leave. There are no groceries to be had in Chicken, but there are places to eat at the campground and at the Cafe. All sewage needs to be transported to Tok, so they charge for black water disposal and they have outhouses instead of flush toilets. Most Alaskans are very familiar with outhouses. Seeing that the nearest groceries are 115 miles one way in Tok, I think Chicken does a fantastic job of accommodating tourists. Their WiFi worked very well for us, and the gift shop had a lot of nice souvenirs. There was also a nice eating area with a nice selection of sandwiches, etc. Outside, along the wall was posted a lot of historical information about Chicken, including a detailed article about the Pedro Dredge. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Fifth Wheel.

Besides the dredge tour, if you want to really explore remote Alaska, you can take a rather long, rough, curvy, but scenic road to Eagle.

Thank you for choosing to stay at our campground and for your thoughtful comments. So many motorists do not understand that they are not camping in the city with normal city conveniences. We do not have a local landfill, nor wells, so besides the sewage being hauled, we also have to haul garbage and water, but we do provide water for free, dump stations (the gray water dump is free), free internet service, FREE firewood and reasonable prices for meals, espresso drinks, beer and gifts. Most campers do not find our generators (which are located outside the campground) noisy....in fact most guests comment about the peacefulness of camping here. We care about our guests and try to do our best to make their stay pleasant.

This was just an overnight stop. Water and 20 amp electric. The restrooms are outhouses that you could hardly breathe in. The store is very unique with lots of souvenirs. This is very overpriced for what you get. The showers are pay showers. There is no phone or internet here. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Truck Camper.

We appreciate your stay at our campground but it should be noted that you arrived just after our annual Chickenstock Music Festival which brings 1500 people to our park so the outhouses had been well used just days before and were scheduled to be pumped, but unfortunately just after you were here. We usually get kudos for our well kept and fairly odorless bathrooms. And we do provide internet to all our guests and a phone is available upon request. This is a remote location so our prices may be a little higher but we try to keep them very reasonable. There are no local wells, so water is hauled and therefore the charge for showers, which again, is modest.

I don't recommend this RV campground. It is not worth the money and I would rather dry camp instead of stay at this RV Park. Here is our experience on May, 23, 2018. The website indicates $30/night for a 20 amp site with no water or sewer hook-up. They charged us $35/night and told us the rates went up. They charge an additional $10 fee to dump your sewer. They do not have a garbage dumpster. You must take your garbage with you. It is not quiet. They run a generator 24/7 for power to the park, their business, and their house. It is located right next to the RV sites. The free WiFi is non-functional. You can see their website, but we couldn't load any other website, and I tried several. The "Free Firewood" is not split. They leave a splitting maul for you to split your own. They charge $3 for a 5 minute shower and they don't open until 10 am in the morning. Checkout is 11 am. They lock them up at 7 pm sharp. The restrooms are outhouses, except for the shower building, it has running water for normal toilets, but they don't even have hand soap or paper towels to wash and dry your hands. The parking sites are basically sand and it ends up in your RV even if you have a welcome mat. The staff in general were not service friendly. Customers are not their priority. They seem to be cutting services but raising their prices. Nearby rv parks are a better option. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Truck Camper.

We are sorry that your experience was not what you would like. We explained to you when we checked in that we were just opening that day and had reduced hours while trying to get everything working (hence the 10 am business opening instead of our normal 7:30). The showers were locked until 10am that day as we as we had to haul water (there are no wells in Chicken). There is also no septic in Chicken because of permafrost soils, so we do not have flush toilets and we have to haul our dump station sewage to Tok (hence the charge). We do have a FREE grey water dump which we point out. There is soap, water and paper towels in the business wash room, it's obviously required. Our prices did go up this year (1st raise in yrs) and they are current on our website. Our internet works fine; it was just upgraded to an enterprise level. We provide FREE firewood, most doesn't need splitting. We are off grid and do not have city services, but we are trying to do our best to make everyone comfortable.

There are very few places to stay in Chicken and we chose this because I really wanted to try gold panning. The entrance is a bit confusing but lots of room to get in and out. The campsites are narrow but have foliage between them (at least ours did) which helps. The staff was nice and there was food and souvenirs available. A short uphill walk takes you to the famous Chicken stores which are fun to look around. I walked the dogs down behind the campground on trails that led to the river. The gold panning was fun, $10 for 4 hours and once they show you how, you are almost guaranteed to find a fleck - yeah don't expect more. My only disappointment was that I had planned on pizza for dinner and when I asked about their stone fired pizza, they only made it every other night...bummer not tonight. That's why they only got an 8. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Fifth Wheel.

Not much in Chicken, but after driving on the Top of the World Hwy - about 100 miles of dirt road - we were very happy when we arrived! We were greeted in a friendly manner and check-in was efficient. Park is mostly dirt and gravel, but well kept. They have an amazingly well stocked gift shop with nice Alaskan art. A great camp, considering what they have to work with and where they are. Pit toilets (kept very clean), pay showers. Grounds are well kept and sites are level. One of the VERY few parks in AK that try to keep up on pothole repair. Small, clean friendly café and gift shop. The dredge is awesome and the gold panning is $10 for 4 hours. Every pan we did had gold - VERY fine, but color in every pan. WIFI is spotty, but it is the only option. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Travel Trailer.

This is a gravel parking lot. 20 amp elec no water or sewage, Everything has to be trucked in and out so they charge for water or for dumping tanks. You can gold pan in park and they also have a dredge you can tour. Just a place to rest from your drive from Dawson City over the top of the world highway. This is a family run campground in a remote, off-the-grid location where folks headed to/from the Top of the World highway to Dawson City, YT can camp. Chicken provides nothing so the campground has to supply their own electricity from a generator & water from local purification. Everything is brought in from Tok or Fairbanks or trucked out (e.g. sewage). There's no cell service & limited wifi. Don't count on the wifi as you only get an hour or two and service went in and out during my 2 hours. What you do get is a truly remarkable stay in a small community originally based on gold mining. For a few bucks, the owner will lead you through a tour of his circa 1930 gold dredge on property or you can tour Tish's house if you've read her book. I can't recommend the Top of the World highway for RVs as it was incredibly rough (think 15 to 20 mph for 100 miles) but I do like this RV park & campground. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed 3 nts during Chickenstock, a music fest, and got free camping with the purchase of tickets to the festival - no option to just camp. We were on upper hill in a parking space shoulder to shoulder with other campers dry camping. No space numbers, over 500 people there in campers and lots of tents. There are electric/water hookups in shaded area around general store. Easily accessible pit toilets and garbage bins. Gold panning in park is ok, other gold prospecting options are pricey. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good coffee shop and snacks and a couple of small restaurants in walking distance. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Motorhome.

Basically gravel parking lot with 20A elec hook-up. Water cost $16 to fill fresh water tank. Dump grey water for free. Dump black water was $10. Everything has to be hauled in. Chicken has 3 campground / cafe / shop businesses - period. Did not see restrooms or showers - they charge for them too. Basically a stop to give your vehicle a break from the Top of the World / Taylor Highways.

ADMIN NOTE: Owner of campground states that there are no fees charged for water or dumping, and the actual overnight rate is available on their website. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Fifth Wheel.

The 30 amp pull-through sites require a reservation. Plenty of 20 amp sites were available during our 2 day stay. The pull-through site we were in was just wide enough to put our slides out and that was it. Power was good but the dump station was locked when we needed it and the office closed so no dump for us! Given the location in remote Alaska, the overall impression of the facilities was good. The outhouse arrangement was good and spotless. Lots of folks panning, others just watching the RVs coming off of the Top of the World Highway. The choices are limited in Chicken but I would chose this campground on the next visit. Great gift shop in the office and more across the street at the original downtown Chicken strip mall (cafe, saloon, liquor store, gift store all operated by the same lady who was a real hoot!!).

Visit downtown Chicken (the original) across the street. The saloon is great!

Electric only park (diesel generator) pit toilets and coin showers. Single hose for water near office. Grey dump station and black dump station. 4 pull-through 30 amp sites with some tree separation. A bit narrow with awnings and slides but not bad. Other sites are 15 amp in a dirt parking lot. Bac-kin sites have trees in rear. Park is basically a dirt lot. Nice office/café. Chicken is out there in nowhere, so having reliable electric power was nice. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Fifth Wheel.

We love this park! It offers electric only or dry camping, and yes, the internet is slow at times, but you are in Chicken, AK! This park sits on top of an old gold mine - the owners are to be congratulated for their work in reclaiming the land. Water is trucked in and filtered for use (and it tastes good). There is a café with sandwiches, baked goods, and drinks to match any urban coffee shop. The gift shop offers handmade and high class gifts. A small book exchange is located in the café seating area. There is gold-panning on site and tours of the historic gold dredge. You can also arrange for gold panning trips out to one of their mining claims. The rest of the community of Chicken is within easy walking distance. We camped at Chicken Gold Camp and Outpost in a Motorhome.

We were there for the Chickenstock Music Festival so were there for multiple nights rather than the one-nighter most do as they transit the TOW.
