Well worth making a reservation far in advance for this highly-desirable spot in Denali. The campground is beautiful, and has super-nice hosts. We enjoyed walking along the river as the vast views made for a little less bear concerns. It definitely helps shorten up the shuttle times into the park. We booked a trip in advance to Wonder Lake and saw quite a few animals in spite of rainy weather. Because of the weather , we left a day early. There's no running to the store, so come prepared! And no cell signal at all. Total peace and quiet! We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

29 miles into Denali NP, the farthest into the park that RVs are allowed to camp. Clean vault toilets only; no showers. A few water spigots are in the camp. Sites are close to level mostly back-in. Some short, some very long. Specific sites are FCFS so arrive as early as you can for best choice. Minimum 3-day stay. Forested area close to braided Teklanika river. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Buy a Wonder Lake Tek pass for $40/person to get park shuttle bus privileges. It guarantees a seat at chosen time on first day, and as-available seating on subsequent days, but only to go farther into the park. Driver is not a tour narrator but will answer questions and stop for wildlife sightings. Camper store at campsite registration building near park entrance. Dump station and potable water fill-up there too.

If you love being right in the middle of wilderness with limited traffic, can live without hook-ups and with limited generator use for a few days (3 night minimum here) then this is the place for you! We love it here. It was our second stay as we had stayed here in 2012 also and knew we wanted to come back! First off, the fact that you can drive 30 miles into the park and pick up the buses from there is a huge plus since you save an hour each way on your daily excursions. Even better, you get a shuttle pass good for your entire stay for less than a 1 day shuttle to Wonder Lake. To top it off, the scenery, friendly hosts, and nightly ranger talks are all great! We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

The best part for us about this park was it's location -- 29 miles into the park -- and the fact you couldn't leave or drive your vehicle for a minimum of three days. We stayed four nights and left so relaxed it was wonderful. No phone service, no electricity, and not much generator noise at all. People tend to go there to get away from things and it works! The nightly ranger talks were excellent, and the bus service was more than adequate. We rode our bikes and hiked around the campground as well. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We booked very early online with the Senior Pass. Staff on arrival at the Park is excellent. We had 1 night at Riley, 3 at Teklanika, and 1 more at Riley. They booked us in at all 3 stays at the same time. The Shuttle Pass is a super deal. Sites are spacious and very clean. Fire rings with grate, but bring your own wood or buy at Riley Mercantile. You drive through and pick any open site. Once in the CG you cannot move your vehicle, 3 day stay minimum. Gennie hours are 8-10am and 4-8pm ONLY and they mean it !! Roads could use some attention but not terrible. Would stay here again. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We made our reservations online and there was no reservation fee. I assume the reports about the fee was for phone reservations.

Great CG. Great to be able to pick up the shuttle bus at the CG and save 2.5 hours on the round trip. Also with the "Tek Pass" you get one reserved day on the shuttle and you can take as many space available trips on the shuttle bus as you have days at the CG.

You must stay 3 nights minimum. You may not leave the CG in your vehicle. If you do, you may not return past the checkpoint at MM15. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Rate does not include the reservation fee. You have to book at least three consecutive nights and can't move your RV except for leaving the park. Dry camping of course. Pit toilets and unthreaded water spigots are available. Sites are level and provide good privacy. Picnic table and fire ring on each site. Mostly open sites surrounded by trees and shrubs. Very quiet day and night. You can hike on the riverbed right behind the campground.
The best feature is the TEK-Pass that is available for 35$ for all TEK campers. This gives you a flat rate access for your entire stay (on a standby basis) to all park service busses that stop right in front of the campground. We will stay here whenever visiting Denali NP. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Buy the TEK-Pass! 35$ flat rate access to park service busses during your stay (standby).
Bring your bikes. It is permitted and fun to ride on the park road and most busses have a bike rack to carry two bikes. We took the bus to Eielson and rode our bikes to Wonderlake which was an outstanding experience. Then back home (Teklanika) with the bus.

We called one week ahead of time and were able to grab a cancellation for three days! Stayed in a large, deep, back in site, I think #18. Our chairs were positioned to look out at the foliage around the river offering complete privacy. The campground was full but very quiet. No hookups but we were able to run our generator during appropriate hours. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We loved our experience staying at this campground. It is dry camping, there are spaces available for Big Rigs. Reservations are suggested, don't want to take a chance during season of not getting a site. Sites are level and very roomy. It sits on a large river bed, lovely to walk and sit on to watch wildlife. There are Ranger talks every night, the Park bus stops in front of the campground to take you to the end of the road, a Beautiful trip. No phone, no TV, no wifi, pets allowed on leash. We stayed here in a travel trailer and we will stay here again. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Driving is very limited on the Park road. Once you get to the campground and park, you are not allowed to drive anywhere until you leave. The bus will take you further into the park, let you off and you can get on any other bus, as long as there is room on it, to go back to the campground. You are not allowed to go back to the entrance of the park where the visitor center is anytime during your stay. Please read up on the rules and reservation procedure well before you intend to come.

You might ask how can I rate a park with no hookups and no amenities a 9? LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Where else can you walk 1/4 mile to the river and watch grizzly bears eating berries for $12 a night? Several sites are large enough for big rigs. Some privacy between sites with ample room to open slides and awnings. Read the rules for Tek on the Denali NP homepage as there are several things you need to know prior to arrival. No problem catching shuttle buses at the bus stop. Rangers presented educational programs every night while we were there and camp hostess and her sons are super friendly. If it is raining plan on getting your RV very dirty as at least 15 miles of the road is dirt/gravel. No problems traveling the road but it is NOT paved. Saw moose going in and coming out from Tek. We stayed 4 nights which was perfect for us. We waited out a rain day and a cloudy day to have a day with 6 hours of clear view of the mountain. We will be back in the future. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Great campground! Two loops with some sites very near the river. There is some vegetation space between the sites. Very clean rest rooms (vault toilets) and convenient water stations as well as food-fuel storage areas. Very pristine area. Abundant wildlife in area. Good hiking on the river and in adjacent hills. Good ranger shows in campground several times per week. Great campground host! Friendly and helpful! We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground has approx. 10 sites to hold big rigs if they are available when you arrive. The sites are spaced in such a way that your neighbor maybe close but it doesn't feel like they are on top of you. Mosquitoes are pretty heavy at the campground, however they are horrible at the bus stop to go further in to Denali. (bring spray & mosquito nets for head) This is a great location to hop on the park bus because you are about 1 hour and fifteen minutes from the park entrance which saves you 2 1/2 hours when going to the rest of the park. Private cars are not allowed beyond Teklanika campground. The park buses take you the remaining 56 miles to the various stops. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The rate reflects a National Parks Senior Pass 50% discount. This campground requires some advanced planning and you do need reservations, but it is worth the effort. There is a three day minimum at this campground to reduce traffic on the park road. We stayed for four days and wished we had booked for five or six. The campground is 29 miles into the park, with the last 14 miles (on a good gravel road) requiring a special permit. There is drinking water at the campground, but not for filling tanks. Fill your tanks the another campground, just inside the park entrance. Also dump your tanks as there is no dump station at this campground. We drove into the campground early on our first day. We had been told that we could not go in early, as checkout was not until 11:00, but the ranger at the checkpoint did not give us any problem when going in early. We drove very slowly getting to the campground to enjoy the view and look for wildlife. (No luck on large mammals). There is supposed to be a host at the campground, but there was not one when we camped there. Once you go in, you cannot come out until the end of your stay. You will want to make for sure you get your bus ticket (TEK Pass) before you go in. Book early if you want to get one of the early buses into the park. The great thing about staying at this campground is that you eliminate about an hour of bus travel in going into the park. You get a firm reservation for your first full day, and then you can travel on the buses on a space available basis into the park, but not out of the park. The campground is nicely laid out with some separation and privacy between sites. We had no phone or data Verizon service. If visiting Denali again, we would definitely stay at this campground again. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

It was nicer than expected for a crowded camp in a secluded area. Although the sites are quite close, there is some vegetation (little spruce trees) for separation and the area is gorgeous. The restrooms were new (2011) and very clean. We stayed there at the beginning of August and it was quite cold, specially during the night. Make the reservation quite in advance as it is normally full booked. From the campground you save one hour one way in your trip further into the park so it is worth it. We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

This was a wonderful camping site, right on the Teklanika River. Primarily it was so nice because it was the campground that was the further-est inside Denali that a person could take a vehicle and camp. Although people can camp at campsites that are further into the park, they must pack all their gear and ride on camper buses and basically use back pack camping. At Teklanika there were RVs and tent campers. Also, when you camp there you purchase ONE "TEK" pass which allows you to go further west on a shuttle bus EACH DAY that you are camped there. It is a really good financial deal within the part to use for shuttle transportation. This type of camping is like camping in U.S. Forest Service campgrounds- quiet and peaceful. There are no showers available at this campground, so use them at Riley Creek before coming to Teklanika. There is a minimum 3-day camping time at this time. We wished we had stayed longer! We camped at Teklanika Campground (NPS Campground) in a Truck Camper.
