This RV Park has a lovely, natural setting with all sites situated along a nice creek. By "natural", I mean lots of vegetation and the sites are dirt. That means that the vegetation gives nice privacy and separation between the sites, but it also means LOTS of bugs (at least this time of the year). If you are looking for "Class A" accomodations and lots of nice amenities, this isn't for you. But then, MOST of the north country probably isn't because fancy RV parks are few and far between around here. Come armed with plenty of DEET and headnets. The dirt surfaces will require leveling in most cases. The shower rooms are actual private rooms with glass shower doors on the stalls and a bench in the changing area. Very nice, but the one I checked out had a bunch of mosquitoes flying around so I decided to pass on the shower. In another time of the year when the bugs aren't so bad they'd be great. The laundry room is spacious and bright and has a decent size folding table, but only two of the three washers were working. They have four dryers though, of varying vintages and condition. Washers cost $2 per load and dryers use $0.50 for 20 minutes. You'll probably need two cycles to dry anything other than quick dries. No wi-fi except on the porch or the office, but they say they are just waiting for a part in order to get it up and running throughout. Verizon was weak, one to two bars 3G. All in all, it's a decent place and a decent value especially with the Good Sam discount. I'd probably stay again, but try to get here in the fall, maybe, when the bugs might be less odious. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Truck Camper.

If you're looking for campsites like state parks frequently offer, but with the extra services of w/e & easy access to dump station, then Tolsona is the place for you. 90 + sites, all along the creek - there are just a handful of 50 amp sites, the rest are 30 amp or no electric (tent). But everyone is along the creek! First you drive in to the campground (over 1/2 mile from highway). good dirt road, trees cleared along sides and overhead for big rigs. Most sites are back ins - and while the sites are spacious in width, some access points are tight for the long rigs. Sites come with fire rings and picnic tables. Bathrooms are ok - 2 stalls each m&w. Showers are individual rooms. Dump station was clean. Can image a long line if a caravan or crowd was there. Cleared roadways and walking paths throughout the park - and for the adventurous, there's a path to a "mud volcano" - ask at the office for details. Wifi was available on office deck, but our Verizon wifi pulled in enough of a signal for us to use our own.
Biggest plus to campground for this writer was the older gentleman who checked us in - he was an absolute joy and has a very quick, slightly sharp, wit. Biggest downside for us was the mosquitos. Early June and they were thick as thieves. Bug spray and face nets worked. Price reflects Passport - offered early and late season. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

We triple filter our water whenever we take some on - for us, Tolsona's was not clear (iron residue?) but was drinkable.

Rate unknown as we were traveling as part of a prepaid caravan. This is the kind of park that were expecting in Alaska. Heavily treed in a wilderness setting with 30 amp and water service. Most sites are creekside - a few were pullthru. Most parks in Alaska are cramped gravel parking lots with few trees and little grass. Given the creek and trees there are mosquitoes - spray with deet before going out. We would definitely come back and stay more nights. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is not your typical Alaska RV park! Heavily wooded with each site along side a clear, clean creek. Yes, the mosquitoes can be bad, especially right after a rain, so bring lots of repellent. We had a pull-through with 30 amp and water. Wi-Fi isn't the strongest but works. The Gray Jays flit from one campsite to another looking for food and if you put out some bread they will practically land on your hand! Very nice owners/staff. We will definitely be back. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here one night in a motorhome. Very helpful staff. Most sites are along the creek and are very nice but small. We had no problem getting our 36' motorhome into our site. Good power and water. Wifi worked mostly around the office. There are a lot of bugs but we had no problem when we were outside. We would stay here again for a night. Tips for other Campers:

If you have time we recommend a stop at the Wrangell St. Elias NP which is about 20-25 minutes from the RV park. A national park we had not heard about until we read the Milepost.

During our two month Alaska trip we rate this RV park the best private campground we stayed at. Other than those few mosquitoes this place is beautiful. Every site is right on the creek. If you don't like the sound of a running creek at night and no traffic noise you probably shouldn't stay here. We set up our screen house and enjoyed the lovely creek and a nice fire. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This may be our all-time favorite commercial campground as it is like staying in a nice state park with all the amenities of a commercial facility. All sites abut the river, so one can fish from one's doorstep. WiFi was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful. The campground is heavily forested, and not being crammed against other users made it very quiet and relaxing. We wish it were closer to our home. Tips for other Campers:

Tolsona is between Tok and Anchorage in a remote area. Visiting Lake Louise and picking blueberries were the major local activities.

The park is spacious and all sites facing the creek. It is situated in a forest area with a lot of trees. The owner is friendly and more than willing to give us trip advice. The office also sells many truly antique items.

The unbearable thing is the mosquitoes..there are hundreds surrounding you once you step outside the RV. The bathroom are pretty standard. Shower cost 25 cents for 5 minutes. We did not use the toilet and shower because they are full with mosquitos. It should be a really nice place if not because of its mosquitos. Gravel roads & level, gravel, fairly roomy sites. Pretty park on Tolsona Creek, trees & bushes add privacy. Large, open area of grass - good for walking our dogs. Water was a brownish color, like very weak tea. Owner says its fine, but we used bottled water anyway. Mosquitoes were terrible! They swarmed in hordes every time we stepped outside. Because of mosquitos and the brown water, we would not stay here again. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was one of our favorites in Alaska. Super friendly staff, treats for the dog. Beautiful spot along a quick flowing stream. Private, level, and quiet (except for the stream). Lots of places to walk the dog. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This was the first campground that reminded us of a state park down in Texas. The sites were all on the creek and the creek was accessible to the dogs (big plus). The couple running the park are a gem. We stayed here for three nights and would return without a doubt! We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Campground was beautiful. Sites were nicely spaced and located in the woods providing privacy. All sites are located along the creek. We sleep in our minivan when we camp and the creek provided nice background noise. Rate reflects Good Sam discount. The owner was very helpful and friendly. He spent a significant amount of time helping us plan our route through Alaska and providing good suggestions for campgrounds in other areas. The only complaint we had was the bathrooms/showers. The sites will cost you 30-40 a night (depending on how much of the site is along the creek) but the showers are not included. Add to that bathroom facilities are severely in need of renovations. Despite not showering the previous day we choose to skip the showers at Tolsana. The bathroom stall doors did not provide complete privacy as the plywood was warped. We would definitely return as long as we weren't wanting a shower. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Truck Camper.

Don't let the word wilderness put you off from choosing this campground. Unless of course you don't like camping by a babbling brook, don't like to be unable to see into your neighbor's window, don't want a campfire ring, views of trees and water, or you hate to be unable to hear highway traffic. This is a gorgeous campground with hookups, including some 50 amps. It is only about a third of a mile in from the highway and the road was perfectly drive-able, no bouncing, with our truck and RV. There are plenty of sites large enough to accommodate larger rigs with slides. And a bonus, the sites are level and all sites are situated by the water with views. And a bigger bonus - great WiFi reception. If you are tired of camping in a gravel parking lot then this is an excellent choice, and a great reminder of what good camping should be. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is the most pleasing campground we've stayed at. It is well off the highway, carved out of the forest, and many of the sites are parallel to or back up to a fantastic flowing creek. 50 amp service is available. We were able to get WiFi at our site, #1, which is a premium site near the office, along the river, and very long. Very few of the sites are parallel to each other, so the site locations give much privacy. The owners are friendly, engaging, and work very hard to ensure a memorable experience for all. If you want a true wilderness experience, this is the place to go, and we recommend staying more than a day. We camped at Tolsona Wilderness Campground in a Motorhome.
