The park itself is nice, sparsely used and no wonder, with the access road as bad as it is. Although the sign said '14% grade', it probably wasn't that steep but the potholes and general condition made it very unpleasant even with my small Class C. I don't think I'd return here unless the road was improved. The sites are gravel and not level. We camped at Chilkat State Park in a Motorhome.

This park has a beautiful setting, but the road into it is unsuitable for big rigs. Truck campers would be fine, but beware - the entry road is a 14% grade gravel road with very large potholes and the worst washboard I recall seeing. In Haines, I'd stay elsewhere and visit this park for a few hours. We camped at Chilkat State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2009 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We didn't stay here but drove through to see if our 40' motorhome would fit. This is not a campground for big rigs. RVs up to 34' would be fine. It's a pleasant-looking park. The campground is not on the water but a short walk. There is a boat ramp and rocky beach to walk. There is a host in an information cabin. The vault toilets were clean. There is a water pump. There is no dump. If you had a kayak or boat this would be a very nice place to use it. It is 7 miles from Haines via a paved road until the last mile. It is then a wide gravel road. The last 1/2 mile is downhill on a 14% grade. It didn't seem that steep to us and it's only for a short time. From town, take Mud Bay Rd. and watch for signs. WE DID NOT STAY. We camped at Chilkat State Park in a Motorhome.
