Stayed 4 nights for the bear viewing. A fair deal, safe sites, could use a bunch of TLC, but water and electric were good, (we skipped the sewer). WIFI is very weak and if a big rig blocks line of site to the office, forget it. Staff is friendly. Restrooms and showers need more cleaning, we used our onboard and the free dump station across from the Petro station in Stewart BC. Potholes need attention, drive slow.

If you miss the bears at the Forest Service deck, you may also catch a few near the Hyder landfill. Want bears (black and grizz) and eagles? THIS is the place. Be at the platform at 6am to avoid the Combat Cameras later in the day. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Travel Trailer.

If you want to do bear-watching, the advantage of staying here is because it is less expensive, closer to the bear-watching platform, and you don't have to wait in line for customs re-entry into Canada with each bear trip. However, since Hyder is becoming a ghost town with only two eating places, you may have to cross to Stewart to grocery shop, eat out, etc.

The sites were relatively flat with great tasting well water. They had 30 amp electricity at most sites: however, sewer is available in only 8 of the 40 or so sites. If you are not lucky enough to get a site with sewer, they direct you to a public dump station back in Stewart (customs crossing involved). WiFi is typical sloooow satellite, but works for email. No cable. It is not well maintained, but was safe, quiet, and near the Parks service bear-watching platform. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Go bear-watching on the Parks Service boardwalk of course. Also, while in Hyder, you MUST eat at The Bus. A one-woman operation, the food is fresh and delicious. The chowder is fantastic and the Halibut and Chips some of the best we've had anywhere! Yes, service is slow because she does it all, but fresh and yummy.

This community is on hard times and the park reflects the economic reality of the area. What brings people to this community is the bear viewing platform provided by the U.S. Forest Service nearby. The park is basically a large gravel lot with standing water when it rains, which it did in abundance during our 3 day stay. The 30amp power was weak and our built-in surge protector kept kicking the off to our motorhome. Unfortunately, we had to use propane for heat and water heating to compensate. Mentioned the problem to the manager who didn't seem to want to deal with the problem. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Motorhome.

Bear viewing platform provided by Forest Service nearby. Salmon Glacier 18 miles on a good gravel road, well worth the drive.

We had previously stayed here in 2011 and found it to be in a very rundown condition. When we returned this time, it was greatly improved. When speaking with the manager, she told me that for several years she had not been there due to health issues. Upon her return, she has been making significant improvements. It is still a rustic place, but so is the rest of Hyder. The location is fine for a quick drive to bear viewing and close enough to walk to most other sites in Hyder. I like the paperback book exchange which had a large selection. Although we did not use the laundry facility, I think it does need to be updated. I also do not like having to pay for showers. I would rather that be included in the price. Showers cost 3 loonies. We will stay here again. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Fifth Wheel.

This camp is just like the town of Hyder, and that isn't saying much for it. The park advertises sites with sewer but there are none. It advertises US TV reception but they have no cable. We were able to get satellite reception. The young man in the office was only there about two hours on the day we stayed. After he left the power went out. I understand there are two things to do in Hyder: see the bears catching salmon in August and see the glacier about 8 miles out of town. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Motorhome.

This park sits at the end of the road into Hyder. The park is basically a dirt/gravel lot with pull-through sites and some back-ins in the trees. Sites are water/elect only and the nearest dump station is in Stewart B.C. When it rains, and it does a lot, the place is one big mud puddle. The road from the border through Hyder to the park was under repair and had the largest and most pot holes we have ever seen. It is the closest RV Park to the Bear viewing site. Would not stay here again. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Fifth Wheel.

Compared to many other AK campgrounds, this one is good. Open sites or shaded, more elbow room than most. Strong wi-fi signal. Most convenient to the bears viewing area. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Fifth Wheel.

Great park, typical Alaska water and electric hooks, staff is easy, very close to everything, it is a must stop when the bears are in town, yes in town! We stayed almost 3 weeks and loved everyday! No cell phone service in the area. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Motorhome.

Just rained and is pretty muddy. Electricty for entire town is off and therefore no water also. Manager is very nice and park is only as rough as the town, which is very "very" rustic. It's Alaska and you gotta luv it! We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Fifth Wheel.

I think the last post does a good job of describing the place. If you took the trouble to get to this "end of the earth" destination and took a look around town, you certainly wouldn't expect too much more than you get. It's rough, the owner is fun, and it's all good. Visit the glacier, the bear viewing platform, and have diner at the bus. I wish I was there. We camped at Camp Run A Muck in a Travel Trailer.
