Restrooms were clean and roads well-maintained. Campground sits right on a beautiful lake with lovely view of the glacier. However, site was buggy in the evenings. Good value and away from town and all the tourists. We camped at Mendenhall Campground - USFS in a Tent.

Many hiking trails in the area, make sure to bring bear spray as we saw much bear activity.

It's great to find a National Forest Campground with full hookups, and 50amp at that! On the shores of Mendenhall Lake which is fed by the Mendenhall Glacier. Within 5 miles of the Alaska Ferry and about 10 miles from Juneau. The problem was the site layout, many were not level and the hookups worked very well with the exception of the sewer connection. Most of the sites we saw, the connection was uphill from the RV. We have a 41' motorhome and had to drive our front wheels up on blocks to get level, even with our leveling system. A great value nonetheless. We camped at Mendenhall Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park is conveniently located near the ferry landing (perhaps 5 miles and no traffic) and is right on Mendenhall Lake. You do not have to go through Juneau proper to get there. The setting is absolutely fantastic. There are huge trees and lots of blueberry bushes. We were in Site 53, which has water, sewer, and 50 amp electric - it's also a pull through site that is big enough for any rig (our RV is 43 ft). The sites were extremely private as well. The primary concern we have is that the hookups are oddly placed, at least at the two sites we tried. If you want the hookups to be on the correct side of your rig, you have to pull so far forward that the front of the RV was nearly on the road - and our 20 ft sewer hose still wouldn't work. So, we chose to pull in the other direction and run the water, sewer, and electric under the motorhome. Despite this, we cannot wait to go back - it's simply wonderful. I rated the park a bit lower for "service" because there are basically no services there, and you cannot pay onsite. You must register and pay either online or by telephone, which can be a real hassle for those showing up at the last minute. The park host was very engaging and helpful. This campground is also conveniently located to Walmart and an enormous Fred Meyer store (easily the largest retail store we've ever seen). We camped at Mendenhall Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The spacious sites are spread out among the woods for a lovely, private feel, but they are not very level. It's a plus to see the glacier every time we drove in and out! Water and electric hookups were fine. Some sites have sewer, but the one we used was so far off-level that the sewer inlet was uphill from our outlet, so not usable. There was no Wi-Fi, but the cell service (we use Verizon) was 4G and quite fast. Pit toilets were always nice and clean; there are flush toilets and showers in another loop, but we didn't use them. It was a real pleasure to camp close to nature for once, and a great value at $21 per night. We camped at Mendenhall Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

This is probably one of the few National Forest campgrounds with full hookups. The sites are big and separated from others sites by thick vegetation. You can see the Mendenhall Glacier from the campground. There are some short, but really nice trails in the campground. We would stay here again. We camped at Mendenhall Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.
