We have stayed here several times over the past five years. We have been extremely impressed with the quality of the way the campground is taken care of by the volunteer hosts. The bathrooms are well maintained and cleaned on a daily basis. There are a variety of campsites available for most types and sizes of rigs. Johnson Lake offers swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. If you are lucky there are even ducks and loons that frequent the lake and seem to enjoy getting their photos taken. We have also enjoyed having moose walk through our campsite. We camped at Johnson Lake State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

At mile 110 Sterling Highway turn off to Johnson Loop Lake Road and follow the signs to the campground right on the lake. There are two loops and both are dry camping. Sites are gravel back ins with trees around and some have lake view. Pit toilets and hand water pumps are provided. Some distant traffic noise from the highway but quiet at night. The lakes invites for a swim and quite a few families with kids enjoyed the opportunity. Seems to be a popular place since it was almost full on the first stay and fully occupied when we tried to stay again a few days later. We camped at Johnson Lake State Recreation Area in a Truck Camper.
