2 RV Parks near Paxson, Alaska
Aug 2016 - $6.00
This is a wonderful campground to get away from it all. Quiet, with well separated sites. We chose a pull-through and had no problem leveling. Bonus was an eagle's nest within sight of our campsite, and we were able to watch the juvenile eagle flex his wings, take his first attempts at flying above the nest and watch his mother bring him food. Firewood was available. There is also a dump station. We would definitely return. - Marsha D

Rate is 1/2 price senior access. This is a BLM site with no frills. But it is nicely vegetated and sites are well separated. There were about 7 or 8 pull-through sites in our section (1 of 2) - easily accommodated our 36 ft + toad. But a number were not very level. No hookups, of course, and pit toilets. The approximately 1 mile gravel road into the campground is a bit rough, but OK when we took it slow. There is an associated boat launch and large lake. We liked it. A warning about gas - the Milepost book says there is gas in Paxson. Not any more; out of commission. Nearest gas is about 30 miles up Denali Highway. The paved Richardson highway getting here from Glennallen was quite wavy and deteriorated. We would gladly stay at Paxson Lake again if we were willing to brave the Richardson Hwy with a large RV and toad. It worked at 30-35 mph. A camper or untowed RV would probably be OK on the Hwy. - Citellus

BLM camp ground on Tangle Lake. Smooth gravel roads with level gravel sites. Back in sites are short for larger RV's but can be managed. Camp host is helpful and friendly. There is water available and clean pit toilets located in the camp ground. All sites are first come first serve - no reservations. Being 20 miles off the main road, it is risky. However, there are several pull offs for boondocking along the road. Rated Average. We would say here again. - Pacatrader

This was a very well maintained BLM campground with lakes and rivers nearby. There is little in the way of vegetation for privacy, but that wasn't a problem since the sites are well-spaced. Friendly campground host. There are also places to hike within the campground. Pit toilets which were spotless. Hand pump for water. We re-upped to stay an additional couple days since the grayling fishing was so good. Plan to arrive early or midweek since the campground fills on weekends. Would definitely return. - Marsha D
