2 RV Parks near Slana, Alaska
Aug 2016 - $1.00
We stayed for one night on our trek along Nabesna Road. The campground is fairly new, I believe it was totally redone in 2012, however it appears to have suffered from frost heaves and both the road around the campground and the campsites are very uneven due to the frost heaves. Some of the sites are long and/or spacious and there are picnic tables and fire pits at each site. The pavement on Nabesna Rd ends at mile 15 and it's hard packed gravel the rest of the way to the campground.
Camping here is free. - Marsha D

This is a free campground, located at mile 28 of Nabesna Road. Stop at the Slana Ranger Station first. Grab a free audio CD that will narrate your drive on Nabesna Road and inquire about free camping opportunities along Nabesna Road (there are quite a few). Kendesnii is the only real campground among those. 10 sites with picnic tables and fire pits and no amenities other than two pit toilets. No water source. But amazingly quiet out here and stunning views of the Wrangell St. Elias Mountains on the way in and from the campground. Sites are level and in the open. A small trail leads to the adjacent lake. Nabesna Road is paved till mile 10 or 12 and the it's gravel. Pretty good road to Kendesnii, rather rough beyond. Our next trip to Alaska will include a few days on Nabesna Road again. - TheSchweitzers

This park has very narrow roads and some pretty sharp turns. We have a 32 foot class C and had to unhook our toad before going into the parking area and still just made it into our pull-through site. We barely had enough room to park our toad at the site. If you are towing anything you will have to unhook it before going to your site. We also had to wear mosquito shirts or hats to do anything outside. The quiet here is great though, as we were the only ones in the pull-through area and had a great night sleep with no dogs barking or noisy RVers. The Wi-Fi is spotty and there is only one shower in each of the two restrooms which are located in the Ranch building. The surrounding area is mountainous and beautiful but bring a lot of bug repellent! - Roger W
