Set with our backend up against the road and train tracks. Not a place for light sleepers as the "freight " trains run at night. Did enjoy the trains during the day and even took the Hurricane work train one of those days. Rest rooms and showers very clean, liked the fact that there was plenty of room and a stool to use in the room. Only two washers and dryers (no room for any more) so if lots of people doing laundry, there could be quite the wait. Good for a couple nights stay. We camped at Talkeetna RV Park & Boat Launch in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here 10 years ago and had a relatively pleasant experience. Now, in July of 2017, it appears ZERO maintenance has been done on the campground and little is done other than collecting fees! It has been overtaken by Devil's Club and other weeds, the outhouses are rickety and toilet paper is hit or miss. Picnic tables are broken down, fire rings are a mess, etc. It's a shame, because with routine maintenance this could be a respectable campground. As it is, it appears that the owners don't put a single penny back into the place. Unfortunately, it's the only "game in town" so they get away with this sorry lack of attention. Lots offer some shade. Site surface is dirt and features a picnic table. We camped at Talkeetna RV Park & Boat Launch in a Tent.

We spent two nights here right beside the Talkeetna River. Nice spot, but that's the only pro. This is dry camping only with no hookups and no dump. This campground has no rules and many campers really abuse that. Lots of folks with ATVs running around stirring up lots of dust and noise. Little kids out playing and making noise like little kids do at midnight. Running noisy generators at 10:30 PM. Very bumpy and dusty roads that some campers seem to want to see how fast they can travel them, stirring up dust. Some loud parties blaring music. There are some nice campsites and this could be a very nice campground if the owner took a bit more interest. It was pretty full, but there is not a lot of choice since there are only a couple of campgrounds in Talkeetna and it is a very popular tourist destination these days. $25.00 a night for dry camping is a bit steep, especially when considering all the negatives. Would we stay here again? Maybe. We camped at Talkeetna RV Park & Boat Launch in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the Talkeetna Air Taxi Grand Denali with Glacier landing flightseeing trip. Eat at the West Rib, breakfast at The Roadhouse, cocktails at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge patio for great mountain views, dinner at Latitude 62, see the historic Fairview Inn, walk down to the river for awesome views of Denali, Foraker and Hunter on a clear day.

Overall Rating:

25$ gets you a dry camping site in a very poorly maintained campground. This was the first time I was denied checking out the sites before paying. Well, it was for a reason and I should have passed after this red flag.

The road through is very bumpy with lots of potholes. Sites are unlevel, dirty and small. The pit toilets haven't seen a cleaning in a long time. One water spigot at the office. At least it was quiet. We will definitely not come back and rather use one of the free dedicated camping pullouts on the highway to Talkeetna (inquire at the Visitor Center at the beginning of Talkeetna Road). We camped at Talkeetna RV Park & Boat Launch in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

On the highway in are a few interesting shops. Inquire at the Visitor Center before driving to Talkeetna. Birchworks has a nice selection of birch syrup products and offers a mini 'factory tour' (5 minutes).

The Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe offers a variety of baked goods out of the wood fired oven.

Overall Rating:

This is dry camping with no dump station available. There is fresh water fill available and you can dump at a nearby park for a fee. We did not use them, but there are showers available. The toilets are pit toilets. We stayed here because we tried to get into the Talkeetna Camper Park Campground, but it was full. It is a large area with somewhat free-form camping. Spaces have been marked in the open areas, but no one seems to abide by them. There is some traffic going to the boat launch and it is dusty. You check in at the front office, pay your fees, then you are on your own to find a suitable spot. There are spots in the open and more secluded spots in the trees. There is some partying that goes on late into the night. However, it is fairly quiet and much less crowed than the alternatives. It is an easy walk to the downtown area. There are brochures make it look much nicer than it is. Our Verizon phone and data MiFi worked well here. Because we liked the relative seclusion, we would stay here again. We camped at Talkeetna RV Park & Boat Launch in a Motorhome.

This used to be a campground for tenters, where they have increased the size of some spaces for RVs. Dry camping with disgusting outhouses. Noisy, rude campers. ATV's buzzing through the campground at all hours of the day and night. If you can find any other accommodations, do so. Would never stay here again. City-owned but privately-run, this park offers dry camping in either a heavily-wooded area of mostly back-in sites, or the open parking lot by the boat launch. Most of the back-ins are relatively short, but are well-spaced. The boat launch parking area is more free-form and suitable for big rigs. The place fills up during the Moose Dropping Festival, but was almost empty when we were there a week later. We camped at Talkeetna RV Park & Boat Launch in a Motorhome.
