Campsites here are wooded, quite private, and quiet with lots of room for larger RV's on the farthest loop. We had a nice pull-through site. The mosquitos were pretty bad while we were there. It did not appear there was a lot of clean-up going on, as our fire pit was full of trash. However, the host seemed very nice and also had campfire wood for sale. It took a bit for us to get level in our site, but ok overall. Yes, the road has lots of potholes, but not too bad. This is a great stop-over if you have reservations in Denali, as it allows you to be early for those first-come, first-served campsites. We camped at Denali State Park, Byers Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is amazing. It has lots of campsites. Some designated for rigs 30' and longer only (unless no other space is available.) We loved staying here. It was quiet and beautiful. Our ONLY complaint: the road has major potholes! Needs to be re-graded, especially the outer circle (D Loop) which is heavily traveled. Otherwise this was just a wonderful campground. There are kayaks/canoes for rent by an outfitter from Talkeetna. Firewood for sale. Charming lake walk that is roughly 5 miles and no elevation increase. We camped at Denali State Park, Byers Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure you have plenty of water on board (you can get it on entering) as their Well is a hand pump and you would need to carry it back to your site.

Host was very helpful. Some sites had leveling issues and the exit road was in desperate need of grading; huge deep potholes were present. Hiking trails were well marked. Kayaking the lake was great with beautiful views of Mt McKinley! We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We camped at Denali State Park, Byers Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This campground is heavily wooded near Byer Lake. No sites have views of the lake. When we camped there, there were lots of mosquitoes as this is a very watery area. Do bring repellent. Some of the sites are pull through and some back in. Most pull through sites are not designed for big rigs because of sharp turns and vegetation. There is good separation and lots of vegetation between sites. The campground is far enough off of the road that there is very little highway noise. Overall, the campground is very pleasant. There is a great 5 mile hike (again with mosquitoes) around the lake. There are also canoes and kayaks for rent. The interior roads are gravel in very bad shape and large potholes, so you will be driving slowly. There is a dump station and water fill, but it is closes on Monday and Tuesday! We were unable to understand the rationale for this, but it is the reality, so if there on those days you will need to bring water and empty tanks. On Verizon phone had no voice or data signal. We would stay again. We camped at Denali State Park, Byers Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful and quite campground in a very nice area. The sites are very well-separated and all of them have a fire-ring and a picnic table. As it is close to the lake, there are a lot of mosquitoes. There are nice hikes around the area. From the camping you can hike to a hanging bridge over Byers river and go around the lake. We camped at Denali State Park, Byers Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful lake and treed campground. Road is in rough shape. Needs gravel. Hiking trails start from campground. Great view of Denali from across the lake (walk or rent a kayak). Boat launch. Boat rentals available. Sockeye (red) salmon spawn in the lake. Lake fishing is an option (not for the salmon though). Loons are common visitors to the lake. Quite. Sites are not all that level. Lots of pull through options available. A true first come, first serve campground - one can not reserve for someone who is not there. $150 fine for doing so will be enforced by a Park Ranger. We camped at Denali State Park, Byers Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Nice park, very quiet the night we were there at least. Great hiking possibilities.Quite scenic - views of Denali (if its out) from nearby Veterans Memorial which in itself is a nice area. Dump station has barriers making a longer hose desirable. Fresh water fill at dump indicates water should be boiled.

Location: Milepost 147 on the Parks Highway. We camped at Denali State Park, Byers Lake Campground in a Motorhome.
