Wonderful place to stay with good views, level sites and great attractions close-by. The Blue Ice trail runs parallel to the campground and offers wonderful hiking and biking opportunities. Campground hosts were friendly bot times we stayed there this year. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park! The sites are spacious in size and in how they are spaced apart. There are hiking and bike trails connecting to the campground. Nice sized fire pit and picnic table. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice upgraded federal campground with paved roads and paved & gravel sites. Many sites will accommodate larger rv's.

Very private and secluded sites. No hookups. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Fifth Wheel.

We really enjoyed this campground. The roads and sites were paved, the sites were well-spaced, large and furnished with a picnic table and fire pit. The campground host was friendly and helpful. We also liked the Blue Ice Trail which extends from the Begich-Boggs Visitor Center to Moose ? (can't remember the name.) Much of the trail is a raised walkway. From the VC, you can hike to the Byron Glacier or take the boat to the Portage Glacier.
This campground is also well situated to visit Girdwood with the Bake Shop restaurant, the Winner Trail and the hand tram. On the other side is a cool tunnel and visit to Whittier with the Horsetail Falls Trail.
This campground is a very nice campground but is also well sited for great touring in the area. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed staying at this campground. It is nestled in the gorgeous Portage valley. The sites are of ample size and not too close to the neighbors. The "Trail of Blue Ice" runs through the campground. It is a hiking biking trail that is several miles long that is worth the effort to travel. It is dry camping with outhouses and hand water pumps. Our site was level and was big enough for our 20' trailer with the p/u still attached. We only briefly talked with the camp host as we had reserved our site in advance. We used this campground as a base to explore the area. We would stay here again. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Travel Trailer.

I am an Alaskan born resident. Most of our campgrounds are fantastic. I find Williwa an exceptional campground for the greenery, many lot choices and toilets. There is a really nice bike/walking trail that seems to be maintained and is beautifully done. We love the mountain view and it does get misty here often being so close to the mountains. We don't mind. It adds to the beauty. However, we recently stayed here earlier in the season than usual due to mild climate so although there is a new camphost and we saw that only about 5-7 spots were filled. This was quieter than usual for us.

Someone stole our 2 new campchairs and large tarp from our spot. I have never had anything stolen from a campsite before now. We were not in the spot for 3 hours from approximately 2:30-5:30pm. I reported this to the camp host in case someone just turned them in but they seemed surprised our things were taken.

I wish to get the word out that it appears someone is stealing from campsites in this area. What a shame. We were a little disappointed that our site had broken glass and garbage that we had to clean up but again, it is very early in the season. Perhaps the hosts did not have time to clean up. We were to stay 2 nights but due to heavy rains & no protective tarp we packed up and left after only one night. We never saw the hosts come by the entire time we were there. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Tent.

This is an excellent forest campground. The sites are quite large and spaced so that you can barely see you neighbor. The campground host is eager to answer questions and help newcomers find a site. He also makes sure the fire pits and sites are free of trash. Water is hand-pumped and there is no dump station, but that is pretty typical of parks in Alaska. It's also a short walk to the fish viewing area where you can watch the salmon run late July and early August. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Fifth Wheel.

Sites are paved and have views of nearby glaciers. The Trail of Blue Ice follows the creek, as well, and is a mile and a half to the Visitor's Center. Beautiful paved trails and settings, with picturesque bridges. Verizon signal weak. I actually visited this park twice in one month as it is so attractive. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Price reflects use of Access Pass. This is the only campground with paving that we stayed at while in Alaska. This is a self check in campground and you pick your own site. Some sites are reserved and will have a tag on the post. We chose a double site and paid a slightly higher fee. Our site was wide, level with no hook ups. Generator hours are generous, lasting most of the day,. Did not use the bathhouse and did not see a laundry. Not near any shopping so plan accordingly. There is a nearby salmon viewing station but the salmon were not running yet. Take a trip over to Whittier. Not much there but the drive through the tunnel is worth the $12 fee. We would stay here again. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects Senior access pass discount. We thought this a great U.S. Forest Service park (thanks to rvparksreviews for telling us about it). We had our RV in a long, paved, level, pull through site with a good view of waterfalls from a glacier ("Middle Glacier"?). But the best view is as you turn into the park from the highway. Near glaciers and spawning salmon streams. Just an excellent place to stay. Some sites can apparently be reserved, but most others cannot. We stayed 2 nights and would do it again. Paved sites and road. Picnic tables and fire pit. First Come First Served (FCFS) and reservations are accepted. Most sites are treed. View sites are available. Excellent access to walking path (Trail of Blue Ice) and salmon viewing area. Located adjacent to a creek. Quite. Beautiful campground. The weather is typically not great (wind and rain). Check the Whittier or Portage Lake weather forecast. No dump station. Big rig friendly. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

The rate reflects a 50% Senior Pass discount. This is a great campground. If only it had a dump station and water to fill a tank. Regardless, it is still wonderful and in a great location. The sites are well-separated with vegetation in between, so it feels very private. It is very quiet at night. Some sites are more wooded and some have views of Middle Glacier. Some sites are reservable and some are first-come first-served. Our Verizon phone and data plan worked well. It has a great biking/hiking path leaving from the campground. It is close to Whittier for boat tours and you do not have to pay the fee to drive your RV though the tunnel. (You do still have to pay the $12 to drive your car. The wonderful Forest Service visitor center is only a mile away, as well as the Portage glacier tour. Wonderful. We spent 3 days here and could have spent a couple of weeks. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park with paved streets and sites. Sites are level, however, as stated in website there are no hookups. Large glacier can be viewed from campsites and a fish overlook is next door. There is plenty of room for big rigs. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Great location, beautiful views of mountains and glaciers. Dry camping, no services. Hiking/biking trail. Paved roads and sites with tables and fire rings. The price is right but on the way out we saw several RV's boondocking free in gravel pullouts along the road. We camped at Williwaw Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.
