Overall Rating:

We were surprised to see how busy this park was for September. We were fortunate to get one of the last sites out of over 1000. Our site was a double site that shared full services from a single pedestal. As a result we had to back into the site which put our door on the road side and our service outlets opposite the pedestal. We did make this arrangement work. There was no TV but we could pick up one radio station. Our cell service was OK. Each row in this campground contains a heated bathhouse with showers, toilets, and sinks. Ours was very clean. This campground is on the edge of Banff town site. Campers are able to ride a free shuttle bus from the registration building to the town site. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Travel Trailer.

Banff has many attraction depending on your interests such as guided tours, hiking, shopping, eating, drinking, and specialized attractions. The natural hot are relaxing and a visit to Bow Falls is interesting. Parking is limited so be prepared to walk from your parking lot to your destination.

Overall Rating:

One of the few places to camp with a larger rig. Our site was not level which is common, so be prepared to do some leveling - had to raise the front up about 6 inches. Power was good. Fairly quiet for so many campsites. You are surrounded by mountains so walks through the park are usually pretty. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

Interesting layout. The sites are roadside and easy enough to get in and out of. Not a lot of space for a front years. Picnic tables include a place for bbq which is convenient. Some sites are shared by two campers (not sure I would like that!). Beautiful area and an good place to stay. Needs a different name though lol. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent two weeks here exploring the Banff area. It's a decent campground in an amazing area with full hookups at a reasonable rate, but the campground itself is nothing special. Gravel pull throughs with almost all the side yards being on a hill, so very limited use ability. A huge turnover, so expect neighbors to be coming and going on almost a daily basis. We'll be back, but only because of the area and full hookups. Don't expect satellite service from almost anywhere in the park due to trees, but we did spend a few nights in site 146 and were surprised that we could lock on to the satellites. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

For a National Park Campground, this place gets a 10. The campground in huge, but there are plenty of trees to make you feel like you are in a smaller campground. All the roads are nicely paved and the sites are gravel. Many sites look perfectly level, some maybe about 1" drop to one side, so easy to get level. Hook ups are centered at the site. The sites are plenty long. We are 62' with the jeep hooked up and still had about 30 feet of space. There are decent hiking/biking trails right from the campground to take the kids or dogs on. Some sites will have sattelite reception. Great views and close to town. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

Great cycling in the area right from the campground. Take Tunnel mountain road East out of the campground to Banff Ave and pick up the Legacy trail. Ride to Canmore or hang a left at the first trail intersection and this will take you over to the Lake Minnewanka area. Great road loop there. Pick up Vermillon Lakes Road. The Legacy trail starts at the end of this road. Navigate to 1A and enjoy some beautiful road biking.

We have just completed a tour of BC and Alberta, staying in 7 campgrounds over 11 nights. Our longest stay was in Banff, in the Trailer Court campground in our 10 metre RV. It was our favourite campground of the 7, with a lovely situation amongst the mountains, far enough above the town to feel as if you were in the wild but close enough to visit it very easily, even in a big camper. The pitches were large and well spaced and the facilities excellent. The lack of wi-fi was the only real downside. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

Rate was $32 USD per night for a seven night stay. Site was pull-thru; gravel; needed leveling blocks on the downhill side; and FHU with 30 amps. We had good Verizon cell and internet reception and partial DishTV satellite reception (2 of 3 satellites). The campground is large and usually full every night. The campground was quiet at night and the trains were no to disturbing. The town of Banff is crowded during the season and parking can be an issue. Our GPS brought us through town on Mt Norquay Road. It would be better to use the Banff Ave exit then turn left to Tunnel Mountain Road. We would stay here again. Our site was a little unlevel front to back but we managed...most of these sites are semi private, since all are pull thrus or pull overs you will always be looking at someone else...the views of the mountains are excellent all around the campground.....the services worked great but we only had 30 amp at our site, some sites do have 50 amps...good cell ATT signal, used our hotspots and got just a couple of channels ota...showers houses are scattered around the campground but we had 1 shower stall in our bathhouse which could make for a long wait with a campground this size....the campground is big rig friendly and there are a lot of shade trees....camp fires are by permit only.....the campground is close to a lot of things in the park including shopping and restaurants in the town of Banff....we would stay here again if in the area..... Excellent national park campground. We really liked it and would definitely go again. The sites are spacious semi-circles on either side of the road but they were staggered so you felt more secluded. They were level, contained a picnic table, the hook-ups were easy and they were surfaced with small stones. It was easy to maneuver through the campgound and there were trails around it. The bathrooms were plenty, clean and there were 4 stalls and one shower per bathroom. Reserve early if you want a space. Tips for other Campers:

Sunshine Meadows is a marvelous gondola ride and wonderful hiking. We also hiked through the Lower and Upper falls of Johnston Cyn to the Ink Pots. All were marvelous. We also hiked to the top of Mt Sulphur but we call it Mt Suffer since it was steadily uphill. There is a gondola up to the top also. Wonderful boardwalk to the Observatory peak too. Cave and Basin Museum and the Banff Park Museum are both good. We like the Bow Falls.

With the Rocky Mountains on both sides, this was a very picturesque campground with nice big trees everywhere. The main roads are paved and in a grid pattern so navigation is easy. The sites are long pull-throughs on each side of the road, facing away from the road for privacy (ours also had some smaller trees and shrubs so very private). A lot of the sites have 2 spaces next to each other (end to end) so not much privacy. Make sure you get one with only 1 site in it.

Maintenance is good. We had no satellite due to the trees and mountains, but we did see one RV with a dish up who managed to get service. Row A is right next to the entry road but has a better chance of satellite and the mountain view is unobstructed. Kind of pricey for no cable or Wifi, no pool or any other amenities (besides nature of course). There is a train in the distance, but not bothersome, mostly quiet. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Eat the Elk Poutine at the Elk & Oarsmen restaurant on Banff Ave downtown. Cascade Gardens park at the end of Banff Ave, across the river, is very nice. Not much to do in Banff except shop, eat and drink.

The sites are those half circle sites along the paved roads, so there is plenty of room and all are pull-thrus. All sites are 30 amp pull thrus. There is a certain date that you can make reservations, so if you want a good site, plan on calling or reserving on line that morning as soon as it will let you. This park has 1,200 sites in it's 3 different villages, but the full hook-up sites have only 321 sites. There is no wifi. But this park has some amazing views and is really close to downtown Banff. If you don't mind full sun site # 141 and 143 have amazing views. Otherwise our site # 321 was in total shade with no views, but nice and cozy and no worries about hot sun. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Fifth Wheel.

We had full hook-ups and 30 amp power in Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court at Banff National Park. RV's were parked in little semi-circular pull-through on either side of a beautiful forest road. It was a perfect setting for visiting a National Park. I would love to back right now! We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

RV's are parked on both sides of the campground roads in loops that you just pull into and out of. Our spot was not as level side to side as we would have liked. Utilities are good, but there are only 30 amp full hook ups. There are a lot of trees between the roads, so you feel like it is a little more private. Mountains surround the campground, and wildlife come in to the campground. (I saw elk.) We camped at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court Campground - Full Hookups (Parks Canada) in a Fifth Wheel.
