As others have said, this is a parallel park style campground with minimal space for sitting out, etc. and zero privacy. Think Wallmart. The photographs and the description on the Parks Canada website are not upfront. If you enjoy "camping" where you simply drive up and park then this is a great place. If you want even a tiny bit of privacy and a sense of being out in nature then this is not the campground for you. Given the high occupancy rates clean up and maintenance is not up to snuff. Garbage left in the fire pit by the previous campers was not cleaned up in the 6 days we stayed on our site. Our picnic table was dirty and falling part. Weeds abounded and there were thistles on several sites near ours. Most sites were littered with small pieces of plastic and were not swept or raked between campers. The showers run out of hot water from time to time. As a Canadian I'm a bit ashamed of the job Parks Canada is doing to run this particular campground for many visitors to our country. If you have a tent trailer, a smaller trailer which you dry camp with, or a tent go to Village 1 or Two Jack Lake. If you want full hookups reserve on of the single pull offs in the Trailer Court. Village 2 is the "last resort" in this very popular destination. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the hoodoos trail from the campground into Banff along the shores of the Bow River. In town visit the Parks Canada natural history museum and enjoy the street market on Wednesdays. The Cave Basin historic site is well worth a visit and very well run by Parks Canada. If you want to visit Lake Louise use the Parks Canada shuttle buses that run from Banff railway station to the lakeshore directly at Louise.

We actually stayed at 2 different sites in this campground....both sites were level and had 50 amp service.....big rig friendly...once again these are pull thrus or pull over sites so there isn't a lot of privacy....electric worked good, good ATTcell signal, used hot spots and got a couple of ota channels....the views in this campground are unbelievable....there is one main shower house with around 10 stalls so there could be a long line at times, plenty of hot water....quiet campground with just a hint of the train whisle during the day and night in the distance.....we would stay here again if in the area.....water spigots at dump station to fill fresh water tank and there are some in the campground.... fires by permit only.... We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Motorhome.

The views from inside the park are beautiful. Mountain View's on all sides. As an RV park it misses the point. No sewer. No water. No cable and very limited satellite due to trees. The "office" is a keosk where you check in and get your site assignment. No maps. No help. I walked over and asked to be moved to an empty site and was told it was taken- obviously not. One shower location for a large number of sites. The layout is sideways - as in you might have to parallel park if your front and rear neighbors are in. Nothing marks the spaces but the site number on the electric post. The roads are asphalt. There is a shuttle to Banff- no dogs allowed and parking in Banff is terrible. As are the crowds. I would not stay here again - but it was almost full every night. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Motorhome.

I like full hook-ups and 50 amp service when I camp. Therefore, I wasn't wild about staying in a parking lot with neighbors squeezed up close to me on both sides. It was tolerable because I was beautiful Banff National Park and I was more interested in the beauty of my surroundings than I was my campsite. We had only electricity at our site and 30amp service. Great campground right in town in Banff. The sites are a little unusual in that you parallel park along the access road, but there was plenty of space for our 43' motor coach. They only offer power, but they do have a very convenient water and dump station near the entrance. The bathrooms and showers were located in many places around the park and clean. We loved our stay at the park and highly recommend it. See our full review and pictures at www.thegilliamsisland.com. When we stayed they were doing lots of maintenance projects like paving so getting in & out took a little longer. After walking the campground I noticed you really want to look at their site photos to determine what experience you want to have. Some sites are right across from others facing each other-great for groups - not great if you want a more private experience. Location is great to get to other areas of the park and the views are amazing! We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Travel Trailer.

johnston canyon hike is a MUST DO! Beautiful views of the mountains from our site and a nice berm that blocked our view of the people across from us to give a feeling of privacy despite being a busy campground

It's Banff, it's Canada 150, NP entry is free, it's got over 600 sites in 3 areas - but a good choice. Reservations recommended, but adds $6. Electric only, but it's all new and dried out now. Parking on level gravel, they are just finishing the new dump station. Would stay again, but would try for the Trailer Court with full hook-ups. I have stayed at Banff Tunnel Mountain many times. Village II is under major upgrade and will likely be a challenge until summer. Spring thaw=mud everywhere. Rubber boots mandatory. Good news is 50A power installed. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This park was extremely crowded. We arrived w/o reservation and almost didn't get in.

Sites are curved off the interior roads - not too friendly for big-rigs (mine is a 38' 5th wheel) - barely got in. Interior roads are paved and good - turns are wide - easily navigable

Dumpsters can be quite a walk, not many and it's a big campground.

Very quiet thou. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Fifth Wheel.

This was just an overnight stop for us , but would be worth a longer stay. Campground is well thought out with easy - large - (on each side) "C" shaped pull throughs. Lots of room to maneuver. Be aware to is an enormous Federal Campground and there is one entrance (where you check in) so be patient there's 10 campers waiting for one employee to process.

It's expensive for the service you get ... but .... it is Banff, everything is expensive. View is worth the price.

Don't recall that there's anything much to do other than look at the amazing view. You'll have to go into town. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Fifth Wheel.

Banff township is a bit of a hike - but if you like tourist traps - go for it. There is a Shell gas station in town but not big enough for anything other than a separate tow or towed vehicle

Had water and electric only on an end sight, so we were fortunate enough to have some pretty good privacy with the parallel parking. We did not have reservations and was lucky to get a site for three nights in high season. We did check in Sunday morning when lots of campers were leaving. Restrooms were reasonably clean considering there are not that many for such a big campground. Views are very nice and we had elk walking thru the campground. Check in was friendly and efficient. We also stayed here in May on our way to Alaska and the campground had lots of vacancies! There is a couple of dump stations we didn't need. There are also sites with sewer. The location is great as it is only a few minutes to downtown Banff. You are in the heart of the Rockies with lots of hiking and biking trails close by. We stayed on the outer ring with a great view of the valley below. The only minus is that you parallel park, end to end, and there is no privacy. We only spent a night as a stop over spot so this didn't bother us, but if we were to stay longer we would look for a site with a bit more privacy. It's all about the view in this campground. We have stayed at this campground many times over the years.
