Great campground right in town in Banff. The sites are a little unusual in that you parallel park along the access road, but there was plenty of space for our 43' motor coach. They only offer power, but they do have a very convenient water and dump station near the entrance. The bathrooms and showers were located in many places around the park and clean. We loved our stay at the park and highly recommend it. See our full review and pictures at www.thegilliamsisland.com. When we stayed they were doing lots of maintenance projects like paving so getting in & out took a little longer. After walking the campground I noticed you really want to look at their site photos to determine what experience you want to have. Some sites are right across from others facing each other-great for groups - not great if you want a more private experience. Location is great to get to other areas of the park and the views are amazing! We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Travel Trailer.

johnston canyon hike is a MUST DO! Beautiful views of the mountains from our site and a nice berm that blocked our view of the people across from us to give a feeling of privacy despite being a busy campground

It's Banff, it's Canada 150, NP entry is free, it's got over 600 sites in 3 areas - but a good choice. Reservations recommended, but adds $6. Electric only, but it's all new and dried out now. Parking on level gravel, they are just finishing the new dump station. Would stay again, but would try for the Trailer Court with full hook-ups. Spaces are actually parallel parking along the asphalt roads on gravel sites. Interesting concept, worked well for us. Quiet at night.

I have stayed at Banff Tunnel Mountain many times. Village II is under major upgrade and will likely be a challenge until summer. Spring thaw=mud everywhere. Rubber boots mandatory. Good news is 50A power installed. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Fifth Wheel.

This park was extremely crowded. We arrived w/o reservation and almost didn't get in.

Sites are curved off the interior roads - not too friendly for big-rigs (mine is a 38' 5th wheel) - barely got in. Interior roads are paved and good - turns are wide - easily navigable

Dumpsters can be quite a walk, not many and it's a big campground.

Very quiet thou. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Fifth Wheel.

This was just an overnight stop for us , but would be worth a longer stay. Campground is well thought out with easy - large - (on each side) "C" shaped pull throughs. Lots of room to maneuver. Be aware to is an enormous Federal Campground and there is one entrance (where you check in) so be patient there's 10 campers waiting for one employee to process.

It's expensive for the service you get ... but .... it is Banff, everything is expensive. View is worth the price.

Don't recall that there's anything much to do other than look at the amazing view. You'll have to go into town. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Fifth Wheel.

Banff township is a bit of a hike - but if you like tourist traps - go for it. There is a Shell gas station in town but not big enough for anything other than a separate tow or towed vehicle

We had a 30 amp site, no water and sewer. Place was clean and we had free unlimited firewood to burn. Big rig friendly, big wide open roads, no low branches to scratch your rig, clean restrooms and showers and helpful staff. I would come back again. Banff and the small town of Canmore were nice to visit. Hotsprings were just up the road and the sights in the area were spectacular.

Had water and electric only on an end sight, so we were fortunate enough to have some pretty good privacy with the parallel parking. We did not have reservations and was lucky to get a site for three nights in high season. We did check in Sunday morning when lots of campers were leaving. Restrooms were reasonably clean considering there are not that many for such a big campground. Views are very nice and we had elk walking thru the campground. Check in was friendly and efficient. We also stayed here in May on our way to Alaska and the campground had lots of vacancies! There is a couple of dump stations we didn't need. There are also sites with sewer. The location is great as it is only a few minutes to downtown Banff. You are in the heart of the Rockies with lots of hiking and biking trails close by. We stayed on the outer ring with a great view of the valley below. The only minus is that you parallel park, end to end, and there is no privacy. We only spent a night as a stop over spot so this didn't bother us, but if we were to stay longer we would look for a site with a bit more privacy. It's all about the view in this campground. We have stayed at this campground many times over the years. The parking is a little strange as it is like parking along a curb in a row, but the views are certainly worth it! Watch closely for the sign directing you into the campground. The signs are new and the font size is very small causing some folks to miss the entrance.

Big Rig friendly with paved pull thrus, concrete picnic tables and bear-proof trash containers. Elec at site. Water available but not at site. Dump. Interpretive programs but not while we were present. Impressive mountain views in 3 directions. Hiking trails nearby to Hoodoo viewpoint where we saw deer, wolves, moose, and a bear – all from a safe distance. Take your binos! National Park pass required. Close to village of Banff. Laundromat within a mile or so. We were at Tunnel Mt. during the floods of Banff and Calgary. Not only were we high and dry, but the park was willing to extend our stay when roads were impassable. We were grateful for a safe place during the unusual heavy rains. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Motorhome.

This just isn't our type of 'camping!' We didn't like the parking lot arrangements for the sites and we didn't like that there were so few sites with fire rings. You essentially are lined up along both sides of the street, the electrical post is located on the opposite side from the cord outlet on your RV or travel trailer, there is very little room available for parking your vehicle or for driving to your site down the middle if the road between them. The dump station is located very near the entrance to this extremely busy campground and the potable water is right next to the sewer drains. Unfortunately, there is very limited camping facilities within or near Banff that offer hookups so, you pretty have to take it or leave it (the full-hookup campground is adjacent to this one, but you also have strange sites there as well). Yes, the Canadian Rockies are magnificent and we very much enjoyed our three-day visit to Jasper and our four-day stay in Banff but, you MUST make your reservations very early. Not sure that we would stay here again. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is the only RV campground in BNP that has bus service into town (1.6 miles) which means it fills up pretty fast. Buses run every 45 minutes and costs $2 adults, $1 seniors and $5 for an all day pass. You can board the bus at the CG, ride through the town all the way up the hill to the Banff Fairmont Springs Hotel. Rooms at the hotel were $700 a night, so the $37 we paid for the CG was peanuts. You do not want to drive in Banff, as the traffic is congested and parking is scarce. This CG has only one washroom with 7 shower stalls for 188 RV sites. Plus, I noticed that none of the washrooms were ADA compatible so they were not wheelchair accessible. But amenities are not the attraction at this CG; rather it is the view of the mountains. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Motorhome.

We had a great mountain view site. Our site was large. We are 54 feet long and had room to spare front and back. Parking is basically along the side of the road with an electric hookup. The bathrooms and showers were reasonably clean for the heavy use they get. This is a busy park, and there are likely to be lines at check in and at the dump station. You can walk to Banff or there is a bus that comes by the campground about every hour. There are hiking trails that start from the campgrounds. We were lucky to get a site without reservations in August, but if at all possible it would be a good idea to have reservations if visiting in July or August. They do keep a few sites available for 1st come, 1st serve. The campground was completely full every night we were there. Not all sites are created equal, ask for a site on the outer perimeter if available. We camped at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground - Electric Hookups (Parks Canada in a Fifth Wheel.
