I'm still trying to figure out how this park got such high ratings. The staff was nice, check in no problem. We only stayed here two nights while visiting Kartchner Caverns. The sites were arched making it hard to pull in and level the RV. We had to park our car at an angle in the gravel area as did everyone else in the park. The roads and sites are all paved which makes it nice. Our site was at the end of one of the streets making the train noise loud especially at night. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Wow! $19 per night with Passport America membership...and a free program at the onsite observatory!!! We were able to view Saturn and its rings, Mars, Andromeda, etc. The "workcamper" amateur astronomer was fantastic and informative. The campground is extremely clean, if somewhat sterile in appearance. There were some trees, but for some reason, even though it was off season, the lady at the front desk assigned us a site in a treeless site, and right next door to the only other camper in our row. If you want a tad more privacy, when you check in, it might be a good idea to ask for a space away from other campers. The park is off the freeway and off the main drag in Benson, but very conveniently located. And, it's only 10 miles from Kartchner Caverns. Notwithstanding the odd campsite placement by the front office, this is a very nice campground. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Whatever you do, try Mi Casa Restaurant in Benson. Absolutely fabulous Baja California style Mexican Food that features an excellent presentation of the meal. The owners have kids, so they decided to spend as much time as possible with the kids as they grow; hence, this delightful eatery is closed every weekend. Don't miss out--you won't be disappointed.

Overall Rating:

This resort is very clean and would be a good place for a one night stop as they are just a mile or so off of I-10. However, the sites are either gravel or paved asphalt. We had a pull-thru paved asphalt site that was too short and not level. There was just enough room for our 42' 5th wheel but we had to park the truck in the site next to us. Thankfully we were here at a slow time of the year and the resort was mostly empty. When checking in I was told no wood burning of any type which also included my pellet smoker, as pellets are made of wood. The reason given was that some people find the smell of the wood burning to be offensive. In three years of full-timing this is the first time I was told I could not use my smoker/grill. Glad we are only here for a few days. There is also a train that can be heard every few hours at all times of the day and night. Verizon cell service was good. Wi-Fi was terrible. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Our site was a nice pull-through. All pull throughs are facing the west. Concrete pad, gravel surroundings, no grass. On site observatory with scheduled presentations, very nice. The pull through sites are vertical to the streets, making it a little difficult to drive a 45' 'straight' into the site. So it took us a couple of tries to get parked straight on our site. Plenty of parking for our pickup we tow on the side of our site. This time of year was their off season, so there were plenty of sites available, no crowd. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful, well-maintained park with many amenities. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did find it odd that one of the rules was that our sewer hose had to be kept off the ground, but this does speak to the cleanliness of the resort. The only issue we had was that the water pressure was low in the women's shower. We would definitely return to this park. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Travel Trailer.

Nice pool did use it & small hottub, and workout room, many activities in winter. Not busy at this time of yr so we were able to stay at the PA rate. We have a friend living here so stopped to visit her. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Motorhome.

Great park. Large level gravel sites. Fair cable TV. Friendly staff and friendly campers. Paved road. Stayed there in 2005 and it was good then and has only gotten better. There is an active train track nearby so train whistles are frequent. Wonderful pool and hot tub. Pickle ball court available and they lend out paddles and balls. Very well maintained park. Sites, while lined up next to each other do have an area of gravel rock separating them. Clubhouse, swimming pool, laundry, library as well as the grounds were immaculate. After spending the winter season in the desert it was nice to have pine trees at each site. Added bonus was the observatory program offered free to guests. Lots of information and fun to see the stars through the telescope. The program was a bit long but well worth it. Got to see Jupiter and its moons! Tips for other Campers:

13 miles from Kartchner Caverns State Park, rated number one for cave tours in the USA. Make reservations ahead of time! About 35 miles to Tombstone. Fun touristy town with emphases on the Gunfight at the OK corral and stagecoach rides. Rode in an authentic Butterfield Stagecoach from the 1800's.

Very clean and maintained park. Only downside we're the trains at night. Very loud but if you can deal with it it's worth staying. Very close to many fun places to visit. Bisbee and Tombstone. The city golf course was also well maintained and we golfed 18 holes. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed for a week and were able to get the summer rate of only $29 a night, park is mostly seniors but lots of transients come through - lots to do, heated pool, wood shop, Ham radio station, putting green, golf driving cage, two fenced dog areas. Full calendar of snow bird activities, the club house had computers, great laundry and tv area and pool table The observatory program was well done - it lasted about 2 1/2 hours and each person got to look through the telescope about 6-8 times - the program was free Limited tv stations and the trains tracks being so close were strong negatives. Stayed here with an RV group. The owner let us use their meeting room for our pot luck supper. The facility was spotless!. They were able to put our group all in sites next to each other. Very nice sites, clean, spacious, had small trees between sites. There are many RV parks in the area, but this appears to be about the best. Enjoyed our stay here. The only negative for me was the internet - it is Tengo - and I have never had good experience with this service. It is usually slow and often hard to connect to the internet through it. However, it was free, so what can I say? We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice park, good condition and well managed. Benson is a good location to tour the local area. Tombstone, caravans, wineries and buffalo solder area all close within a hour. Benson itself not much to talk about. Plan on eating at the camper. Only one issue, bring your ear plugs as the trains run all night. This park would be a 9 if the trains do not bother you or a 7 if they do. The train noise is loud with the horns blasting all night. When sitting outside it is hard to carry on a conversation. The park is extremely clean with a nice but small pool. The roads are wide and access is easy. The sites are too small to keep your tow car attached with a larger rig (+40 ft.). A well maintained park with lots to do in the area, we will return. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Butterfield's RV park for 5 days while we waited for our dogs medicine to catch up with us. This is a beautiful, small park. It is very well maintained and the office staff is very nice and friendly and the observatory is not to be missed. There is an observatory on the property and free to all who use the park. Our guide was great, explaining the mystery of the stars to us and we each got to look through the lenses at each star. They have the observatory open every night. Well worth a stop.
