We were obviously here in the off-season. No camp host and only an occasional volunteer at the gate. The sites are spacious and you really can't see another camper nearby. It feels very secluded even though you are in the middle of town. It was in the 90's for the 3 weeks we visited and really wished that we had shade! Amazing sunset views and hot air balloons in the morning! Close to Cave Creek which is a cute little town. Enjoyed watching the road runners in the park. My only complaint was that I could not for the life of me find a laundromat nearby! We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Decent enough park, with a few drawbacks. The bathrooms are similar to other Maricopa County Parks, but the handicapped shower faucet is fixed at waist level (other parks have an adjustable faucet) reducing the number of showers in each building to one. There were multiple bathroom buildings, however, and I never had to wait for a shower stall. Not enough dumpsters for trash. Also, there was a rodeo going on next door over the weekend and the yelling was constant and annoying. Other campers also seemed noisier than at most campgrounds. The smells from the stables were strong and animal sounds loud (horses, cows and roosters.) The positives were the many hikes and the great Visitor Center. Also, the camp host was very good and went out of his way to help us. We'll return if McDowell Mountain and White Tank are booked, but it's not my first choice in the area. Selecting a site on the north end (closer to the mountains) might help (we were in site #23, about as close to the rodeo as you can get!) We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Desert Foothills Library was 15 minutes away, with fast internet and used books for sale. Fry's and Safeway also close by. Vera's Laundromat was a bit further than Papa's Laundromat but it's probably better.

This is an amazing park! It's situated in town but still feels like the beautiful serene Sonoran Desert. All sites are clean and spaced well for privacy. Sites are level and easy to navigate. No sewer at site but dump station is on site. The pull through sites are sort of "off street" and much less private than the back in and there are plenty of back ins with ample room for Big Rigs. The natural landscape was spectacular and the trails were clearly marked and descriptive on park maps. We had a gorgeous mesquite tree on our site which provided great shade. Not all sites have shade. Each site has a lot of room to spread out. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Nature Center for local facts and trail maps. Also for some local fun definitely go into Cave Creek for some Cowboy fun and visit the Buffalo Chip Saloon for Bull Riding and great food! Very fun! There are several trails for hiking and mountain biking that range from easy to difficult. This campground is centrally located to everything but still feels quiet and serene.

It's very easy to get around here. Sites are mostly back in with a few pull throughs interspersed. It's a desert campground though, so not much shade and it's hot here in late May. Very nice rest rooms and showers. Not too many campers here though. Campground hosts are already gone for the season. Lots of quail, lizards, birds, cactus and even a road runner. We would stay here again. Burn ban is in effect in early May. It is dry! We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lots of things available in this area. But they are hard to see as they are placed back off the road and the use of foliage as a buffer makes things hard to find. GPS is very helpful.

Wow! Who would have thought. This park was meticulously cared for. The sites were all paved, roomy and private. Elec and water only. 14 day stay max. The restrooms and showers were new and clean. They had even raked the gravel in out picnic area of our site. Lots of great hiking trails. They have both back in and pull through. Be sure and stay in the older area. The new area is more "parking lot" like. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

It's hard to go wrong with any of the state or county parks in the Phoenix/Tucson area, and Cave Creek was no exception. The park is very pretty, with lots of desert vegetation throughout. Our site was huge and very private, but you do need to be careful picking a site. There's one section of the campground that was previously group camping but is now available for regular reservations, and those sites are close together with little privacy. Also, while on satellite view many sites look long enough to handle big rigs, some of those have very steep slopes at the front of the site, making them unsuitable. Our back-in site was one of the most level we saw, and we needed to put wood blocks under our motorhome's front wheels before leveling. There are some great dog-friendly hiking trails in the park, including a trailhead inside the campground that leads to all the other trails. AT&T and Verizon both worked but were weak/slow. We set up our booster and then had great reception. The showers at Cave Creek are decent but could use some updating. First of all, although each bath house has two men's and two women's showers, one of each is handicapped accessible and has the shower head mounted permanently at about waist-height, making them unusable for the rest of us. All the showers have a single push-button that turns on the water for a minute or so, with no temperature adjustment. The water was usually (but not always) hot, but it would be nice to be able to adjust the temperature or pressure. The town of Cave Creek is a few miles away with restaurants and shopping. We enjoyed the park and would stay here again. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in Site 2, a side-tie site. Water and electric at site, it was a very nice, clean site with great view of the mountains. This is, however, urban camping, as you are surrounded by homes. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Another decent Maricopa county park. The park is a bit on the smaller side and some of the sites are closer together compared to other parks in the area. They just converted the group camping area to general use, so that should help some with getting reservations. Water and electric only, but dump station on site. Pull through sites are basically a wide spot in the road. Several sites aren't super level, but not horrible. There are other nicer regional parks near here so we won't be staying here in the future. Friendly hosts, convenient to stores, and some nice hiking trails. Decent Verizon coverage and clear sky for sattelite. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Lots are large and well spaced for privacy. The website does not correctly portray each lot as some are extremely short & unlevel even though they claim to be big rig friendly. We actually had to cancel and leave because we were too long for the site we had reserved. No sewer. LOTS of flies due to surrounding homes with horses and farm animals. Streets are wide and easy to maneuver. The pull through sites are the best for big rigs as they are long & level. 50 amps. Very quiet both day and night. Lots of hiking. Very busy; reservations in advance are a must. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Easy to get in and out of the park. Paved roads and sites. Pull through sites have water electric such that you need to pass hose and cord under your rig to hook up. Utilities worked fine. Although we love this park for the spacing of sites and how quiet it is, it has gotten very expensive for no sewer or internet. Most back in sites are not level and are too short for a big rig . We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

For the pull through sites, if you want your door to open to the site versus onto the road, your hookups will be on the wrong side so you will have to run your hose and electric under your rig to the connections.

This campground is not as big as some of the other Maricopa County campgrounds, but it is very beautiful and quiet, with a new double dumpsite and lots of hiking trails. Most sites are very well spread out. They were also letting people without reservations use the group site as overflow camping, but I don't know the rules or limitations of those, so you should have reservations or call. Verizon was 2/5 bars, but it is only about 6 miles to a Walmart or Home Depot with 5 bars. Lots of nice shops and restaurants in the town of Cave Creek and nearby Carefree. I enjoyed the birds and bunnies hopping around. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Saw another poster had problems with desert rodents eating electrical wire in his tow vehicle. It is true there are lots of critters here, but some lights under your RV and tow vehicle will help deter pests.

Stopped in to visit friends. Was really taken with how nice this area is. My wife and I are not hikers but if we were, it looks like this place would be perfect. We did enjoy a couple of sunset walks. Plus everyone seemed to really be enjoying their time here. Always a good sign!

It was very clean with picnic tables, fire pits. My wife liked the hot water showers and quality bathrooms. The staff was good and very helpful. They had an interesting Nature Center that we enjoyed.

It looks like you need to reserve well in advance if you want to be here over a weekend.

But do come. This is as beautiful as the desert gets!! We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds. The only negative is the increasing cost to stay here & booking a site months ahead. We always go to the hoop dances at the Heard museum. We rent a car & it is great that Enterprise will pick you up here. Birds, coyotes, and javallenas abound. We camped at Cave Creek Regional Park in a Motorhome.
