KOA under new ownership for last 2 years; they've been doing a LOT of work on improvements and it shows. We opted for the premium site with a 400 sf dog run, built-in gas bbq and fire pit, very nice chairs and picnic table/benches. Super friendly and helpful owner delivered our FedEx package that arrived before we did, since he wasn't in the office at check-in. We don't travel this way very often, but will definitely put this park on our list of must-stays when we do. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Motorhome.

This is an RV park in the desert, so landscaping was minimal. But spaces well spread out, easy to set up. Ryan went out of his way to make sure we were set up with cable. He was so personable and pleasant, not only to us, but I also saw him interact with other customers. Looks like once the pool and shower area is complete this will be an even better facility. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Motorhome.

This park is now owned and operated by KOA and is in process of being redone with new landscaping and facilities, etc. We have stayed here in past years when it was privately owned and always had a pleasant stay, however; this time we found that many of the coming improvements and new construction are not done yet so the interior roads are still gravel and dirt as are the spaces themselves. When completed this will surely be a very nice and enjoyable park to stay at. The landscaping being done appears to be very nicely thought out. We didn't use any of the facilities during this one night stay however there a brand new pool being constructed as well as the clubhouse is being refurbished and will no doubt be very nice when done. All in all, this is a convenient and easy to get to park with good amenities and a friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely continue to use this park when in the area............... This fairly new park was a pleasant experience. It looks to be a destination for snow birds, but also is a handy overnight location. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The dog park is very well designed and executed. The pull through sites are very long and level. The pool is being renovated. The manager was thoughtful enough to warn us of this in a telephone call before we arrived. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Daily rate includes KOA discount. New owners under the KOA moniker are upgrading the CG significantly (pool under construction, new restrooms, fresh landscaping). Go north off I-8 at exit 119, about a mile. Local access road is two lane in fair condition. CG easy to find with KOA signage and a big American flag. New owners very friendly and helpful. Credit cards accepted.

Tent camping sites are available but no cabins or yurts. CG roads are gravel with spots of asphalt, wide with gentle turns, no overhead obstacles. FHU-20/30/50. Site conditions vary as transition to KOA standards continue. Sites are spacious with desert landscaping, gravel and dirt, level with utilities at mid-rig, threaded, 4" sewer connection just above ground level. Picnic tables but no patios. Good satellite views. Open fires not permitted but BBQs okay. Adequate water pressure with good taste.

Minimal office store: snack food items, soft drinks, RV accessories. New restroom building still under construction. Single shower in rec-hall modern and clean (score "A"). No propane sales (gas stations in town have propane). Laundry room. Small playground. Free cable TV. Free Wi-Fi but limited bandwidth. Verizon coverage at "5-bars"; 4G coverage at "5-bars". No fitness room, pool still under construction, no game room. Notable railroad but minimal traffic noise. Recycle bins behind dumpsters.

Bug Report: see office for information on poisonous snakes, insects, and frogs/toads. Otherwise, small brown ants invading; pre-treat is recommended (early February). We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Gila Bend is a cute, little, "Spit-in-the-road."

Some fast food restaurants, local restaurants, no major restaurant chains, no Wal-Mart, no grocery store (some supplies at Circle-K).

Numerous gas stations. Diesel credit at $2.65. No Camping World or other RV stores.

One, local, hardware store. Nearest "big city" is 32 miles away.

First let me say they do have laundry facilities. That was important to us and I didn't see it in the other reviews or on the KOA list of amenities here. That could be because they're still updating the campground and the laundry room is fairly new. The washers and dryers are each $1.50, but the laundry room is clean and there is even a clothesline with clothespins and an ironing board and a great patio to sit on while you wait. I was impressed!! There is a large, clean, well appointed clubhouse attached. Everything here is in very good condition and the folks are helpful and friendly. The sites are gravel, but very spacious and angled so you aren't looking directly into your neighbor's camper. Unlike other's comments I found the wifi very good. We didn't stream (against the rules) but for checking email (and typing up this review) the wifi is better than most. Gila Bend itself is not a great place to stay or visit, but if you are passing through be sure to stay here. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The only thing we did was eat at the Space Age restaurant (not great, but not bad either) and visit the Painted Rocks Petroglyph site which was worth the trip and didn't take very long. There is a BLM campground there with no hook-ups, but it has restrooms.

We stayed here 2 weeks on our way to San Diego and experienced a couple of spring training games in Goodyear. Very helpful office staff and we were escorted to our site by staff which was nice. Sites are fairly large and are situated so you were not looking right at your neighbors. We stayed in site 206 and had plenty of room for our tow vehicle. Had a great dog run with 3 separate areas with 2 of them having real grass, very well kept and our dogs loved it! AT&T & Verizon coverage excellent at 4G's. This is a new KOA and they are constructing a Pool. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Motorhome.

We stopped here for on night. Told them we had pets but were parked on "Overnight Row" nearly a mile from the dog park area. The dog park was exceptional. Everything else here seems to be on the very soon side. Little things like a swimming pool, restrooms and showers. I went to the front office to see if they had coffee going in the morning, but they keep bankers hours and don't open until 9am. This is an OK place in the middle of no where, I may check out a different one next time. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Gila Bend KOA, owner at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) responded to this review

The Gila Bend KOA has been running at 90%-100% occupancy during the month of Feb, so we're sorry you were not close to our great dog park. We have 40 designated overnight pullthrus 100' long 55' wide and 1/2 of those are near the dog park; the other overnight row we do have a leashed dog walk with poop-bags available. Yes, "on the very soon side" we will have a heated swimming pool and a 1500sqft Bathhouse equipped with a dog wash station. In the meantime, our Ranch House has restrooms and shower and we have brought in a 5-unit toilet/sink/shower trailer until the Bathhouse is set up. This RV Park was just purchased in late 2015 and we are working very hard to make this a great place to stay. In an effort to keep our costs low and to extend this savings to our KOA overnight rates, we do have limited staff with limited office hours, which are even more limited during the summer months, but have a great self check-in desk available 24-hours. Scott Swanson, owner.

This new KOA has a new owner (Oct 2016) and has turned this park around. If you're looking for a park that is far away from everything and is clean with sites spread out, this is the place. Stayed here some years back and I couldn't believe how much it has changed. Well done Scott. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Motorhome.

What a pleasant surprise. These are the largest sites I have ever encountered in any KOA. Minimal leveling needed. Gravel sites. 24 channel cable. Their wifi actually works...sometimes slow but overall worked well. Some permanents but all the sites I saw were clean and orderly. Their KampK9 is divided into small sections, 2 with grass and the others packed sand with doggy bags provided. Able to separate the social dogs from the less than social ones easily. The staff and owner are extremely pleasant and helpful. Escort to your site who waits to make sure you understand the hookups...easy peasy, and labeled on each side for electric and cable. Everything here seems to be in good repair and a work in progress for new showers and pool area. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Very nice KOA park located just off I-8. Sites are 100' x 55' level gravel. Free cable and wi-fi and picnic table. Park is very well maintained in all areas. Major upgrades are in progress including a pool and dog wash area. Nice dog park with grass. We would definitely stay here again. As people on here know, I do not give a 10; nobody is perfect (well, maybe my wife!). Very nice staff, clean and wide. They have put a lot of hard work and money into this place in the year it has been a KOA. And much more coming. HIGHLY recommend it! I LOVED this park! Who'd have thought a tiny town like Gila Bend would have such a treasure? HUGE level pull-thus, outstanding staff, the BEST dog park ever (not large but extremely well thought out). The RV park location is perfect if you need to rest before Yuma or Tucson or wherever. Some reviewers complained of train noise. The trains do not blow horns and I found the train hum soothing, like a white noise kind of thing. I will plan future trips with this park in mind. We LOVED your review! We are happy to see you rated our dog park as the BEST. We are getting ready to open up a deluxe patio site with a concrete patio, sitting area with a propane fire, propane BBQ, deluxe picnic table... and... a private 400sqft doggie park just for that site! It's called The PEThouse Suite~

Pleasant/inexpensive KOA in the desert with good desert views. Super good dog park with nice grass. Very wide and extremely long spaces. About 5 miles to Gila Bend where you can eat and get fuel. No grocery store in Gila Bend. Very recent improvements evident and a new pool was being installed. Moderate semi truck noise from a nearby highway. Train noise minimal. Looking forward to going back. We camped at Gila Bend KOA (formerly Augie's Quail Trail RV Park) in a Motorhome.
