Pros: Beautiful grounds. Very friendly. Made lots of acquaintances. Lots of amenities and new things to discover. Lots of trails and places to see outside the grounds. Cons: The reason I gave satisfactory rating is you will be nickel and dimed. You pay for laundry cards, mail directory forms, sewage which most don't charge for, hydro was high, the rate was increased from what we signed up for, and their rate is one of the most expensive in the cal am properties. Also we had booked our site a few months ahead and although they say you might be bumped, we called a week before coming and they said we still had our site. We got there and they switched us. Finally, I found their sports side of things very competitive. They would bump people off teams after they said they were on. This happened to a number of people. This is not the olympics and I would have liked to see the organizers have a little more integrity instead of only worrying about winning. Many people had complained about this. All in all, for me I don't think I would go back because of their site bumping, their nickel and diming and their monthly rate, but all round the experience was very worthwhile and I met lots of people and experienced new things. We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Hands down, this is one of the nicest full-service RV parks ever. The event and social calendar of free activities is extensive including happy hours twice a week with live music, bocce ball, pickel ball, two heated pools and spas, woodworking shop, etc. EVERYONE we met was very friendly and we quickly established friendships even as short-timers. The grounds are immaculate. The sites in the temporary area near the front of the resort are very spacious. The only comment about the sites is the location of the sewer. It's way to the back of the site. We had to use 3 sections of sewer hose to reach the connection. Utilities work well. Cable is available for a fee from a local provider but we got over 30 TV channels over the air. WiFi is quite strong if you are near the rec center but weakens elsewhere. Make reservations early! We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Gold Canyon is a mecca for hiking, golfing and exploring. Travel the Apache Trail for amazing mountain views and don't miss lunch in Tortillas Flats (live music daily). The resort will give you a list of hiking trails. We especially liked First Water. The Arizona canal bike system is a short distance away in Mesa.

This is a nice park off Rt 60 in Gold Canyon with beautiful views of the Superstition Mountains. We were put in the "transient area" as this is really about selling sites for year-round use. The transient area was nice and sites were fairly spacious, but hookups were all at the rear and needed a sewer extension to reach the hookup. We clearly were treated as second class at registration and the woman almost couldn't be bothered to explain anything to us when she knew we were only staying 3 days. Free wifi was not very reliable and quite slow most of the time. NO cable TV despite giving you a channel guide in the welcome packet but when I called to ask, the woman was very rude and let me know it was only for seasonals when I asked why a cable guide in the packet if no cable. I would not stay here without the PPA rate. No picnic table at site. VZW cell had 3-4 bars LTE and broadcast TV picked up over 40 channels when pointed at PHX. Good water pressure. The site pretty level. We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Very nice park if you are long term. We stayed two weeks. We were told we could not stay longer although the long term had many open and the short term area was more open than full. Maybe lots coming in? We did have a nice visit with friends and enjoyed a couple of happy hours and a dance.. A very nice park and we will be back if we can stay longer. They have a separate section for short stayers. It is close to the highway but at night (and during the day) you don't hear anything, and we like quiet. Gravel spots, all back-ins with a concrete patio. Only negative was there is no shade or trees or any green, no landscaping at all but you are in the dessert! Great sunsets and views over the mountains and the saguaros. Free spotty WiFi (and the resort was empty), lots of stations on our antenna in HD. The resort is filled with park models and homes. We normally don't go to resorts like this but great to stay for a couple of weeks. Pickle ball, tennis courts, swimming pools and lots more. We will come back. Be sure to ask for specials if you want to stay longer. We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

The best aspect of this park is the friendliness of the residents. We stayed in the park for a month and got a reduced price but it was still costly and long-term residents pay extra for their electricity. The park has great facilities including 2 pools and hot tubs with tennis, pickle ball, bocceball, horseshoes and a library, computer lab and many other club facilities and activities. The park includes lots of park model residents and a permanent house area adjacent to the RV and park models. It is the kind of place where the motto is "if you are bored it is your own fault" because there is so much to do. The park is quiet despite being on a busy highway with lots of traffic and difficulty getting out at certain times. We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

The Bryce Thompson Arboretum is 20 minutes east on Hyw 60, it is a beautiful park to explore. Silly Mountain across the road is also fun to hike the trails. Close to Phoenix and all it has to offer.

The resort entrance and activities areas are nicely landscaped. We stayed in the short-term section, which is not. Although, to the north was a great view of the Superstition Mountains, and to the west, open desert and great sunsets.

The sites are lose gravel with a concrete patio. The terrain falls away from the patio to the street which made leveling the RV difficult. The hookups were in the back, so we had to backup the next site to be close.

They have no cable TV service, but the antenna picked up many stations although most were Spanish language. March is a terrible month for a college basketball fan to be without cable.

They have Wi-Fi but it is useless in the short-term area. I had to go to customer services each morning to use my computer.

We were across from the dumpsters, so it was quite messy. I never saw any employee there to pick up the trash that blew out of the dumpsters.

They have a free Happy Hour which was great if you could find out when and where it was held. Guest Services didn't know. Other than that the staff was very friendly and helpful.

The short-term area is separated from the main resort by a canal. This marks a clear change in scenery. To the south are row upon row of boxes (park models) while the north has a wide range of RV's of all colors. We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

This is actually two facilities in one. Canyon Vistas is a traditional 55+ RV Resort with 600 spaces for RVs and Park Model Homes. It is adjacent and attached to Superstition Mountain, which is a 55+ community of manufactured homes with attached RV ports or garages. Both facilities offer a full range of amenities (pickleball, tennis, clubs, happy hours, etc) and residents of either side of the resort have access to all amenities. Since they are attempting to sell out the RV Port section of the community they offered a free week at a RV show. Very nice people. Monday breakfast social introduces new residents and guests. Happy hour 3-5pm M, W, and F with live music is especially nice. Located in Gold Canyon, just a 20 minute drive to Mesa. Site overlooks Superstition Mountain and is surrounded by protected land (desert). Any size rig will enjoy this rv park with full hookups. Advertised free wi-fi only worked in reception, and even there was very slow. Cable TV available if you are staying 1 month or more from an outside provider. Vast majority of residents are seasonal, with lots of folks from Central and Western Canada. We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the short-term area, which is up front. Kind of a strange setup; the spaces each have a concrete pad, but nothing else (but gravel). There may be a tree or bush here or there, but really no shade. However, you'll probably be looking directly across the road at the beautiful Superstition mountains - not too shabby.

The pads are all up close to the roads and they don't go that far back, so if you have a gas motorhome with a mid-point entry door (like us), it will open up to gravel, as will your outdoor under-awning space. If we tried to move all the way forward to at least position the entryway to open up to the pad, we would've needed extensions for both power and sewer, as they are way to the back.

If you pay for short-term space, their policy is no refunds if you have to leave early (they made an exception for us, as the reason we had to leave was lack of space in another of their parks).

Lots of amenities here - two nice pools, a large well-stocked library with books and videos, five pool tables, a large exercise room chock full of new equipment, etc. If this is your thing, you will be in heaven here. Miles of walking within the park as well.

For being out of town, there is plenty nearby. A very nice grocery store (with Starbucks and bakery) across the road, with several restaurants, Chase bank and a nearby Walgreens. Five golf courses across the road. Drive just a few miles west to Signal Butte for more shopping (a huge Walmart, theaters, restaurants, etc.), with a Costco just a little bit further west.

No cable TV, and marginal internet (try the different WiFi hubs, as some are faster than others even if they all appear with the same signal strength). Plenty of over-the-air stations, however. Got decent LTE cell service (AT&T). We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

We received a gift certificate at an FMCA rally to spend 3 nights at any Cal-Am resort in Phoenix. We opted for this one because it was outside of the city. To our surprise (and delight) we weren't given any sort of sales pitch at any time.

Arrival was interesting. Because our Super-C is over 10 years old, it had to be "approved" by the supervisor. That was a little off-putting. And there seem to be tons of rules. Don't ride your bike on the sidewalks, they leave lack marks apparently.

We were put into a gravel section with mostly other RVs. All the park models were in other sections. We loved the two pools and hot tubs. I made use of the sewing room to do some quilting, it was nice to spread out. We attended an happy hour (free!). Every person we met was very friendly and very enthusiastic about this place.

The only bad thing I have to say is about the clueless-ness of the people in the main office. I am sure the staff at the check-in and activities desks are residents, but they should know more about what is going on. Simple questions about mail, access to the activity rooms could not be answered.

To summarize, my husband loved the place. I didn't appreciate all the rules, etc. It seems a little too stifling. We camped at Canyon Vistas RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Have stayed here before (Nov2014). Stayed for 6 days this time. Mixture of park models and RV's. Stayed in the short term area near the front this time. 50 amp, water, sewer. At least 50 channels on TV antenna. Free WiFi. Free happy Hour at the pool several times a week. Two nice pools. Friendly people 55+ resort. Would definitely stay here again. We stayed here for 6 nights free after looking at their Superstition Views Casitas. We had a beautiful view of Superstition Mountain. The park is very nicely laid out. We stayed in the short term area of the park. Many of the residents that we met here were very very friendly. The facilities are wonderful. The pools at Superstition Views and Canyon Vistas are beautiful! My only complaint is that the WiFi is terrible! If they could make that amenity better, it would be a excellent park. Rate is for a FHU 50 amp back-in site on gravel with a PA discount. This is a large RV Park with many back-in sites for snowbirds. The PA sites are out front near a very busy highway with constant road noise. Other than the fact we were visiting friends, we would have stayed somewhere else.
