Stayed 2 nights at the North Rim in their final week of operation. Site #11, an outside side near the premium sites on the canyon edge. All sites in the park are pull thru. Huge level site, plenty of room between the trailer and the picnic table/fire ring. Lots of pine needles for fire kindling. Excellent Verizon 4G wireless service (reportedly there's a Verizon tower in the area). No hookups, but that's what we wanted. Nice shade with the many trees, comfortable during the day, crisp/cool at night. Campsites were all clean as were the restrooms. General store well stocked, even for late in the season. Only real down side was that the diesel fuel price was jacked up from $2.99 to $3.26 overnight for our departure date. Ended up fueling up at the Kaibab General Store for $2.89 -- it's 7 miles outside the park. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you're making reservations, look for the "premium" sites near the canyon edge. Not too close, but close enough for a view. Also look for an outside of the loop site if possible.

The campground is about a mile from the North Rim visitor's center. The area is wooded and beautiful. The sites are all uniformly large, but vary in levelness. The sites in the middle were generally more level than the ones around the edges. There are a few sites that back up onto one of the side canyons. All of the sites are dry, but there is a dump station in the campground, and fresh water available. Generator hours are from 7-9am and 6-8pm. There's a store next door that has some food (mostly snacks), and very basic camping gear. The North Rim visitor's center is small. The gift shop at the visitor's center has t-shirts and stuff. We really liked this campground. Even inside the campground, it's crazy beautiful. And there are canyon views almost as soon as you leave the campground. If you have a bike or like to walk, you can bike or walk to Bright Angel Point. It's also only a couple of miles from the road to Cape Royal. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

This is a lovely, well-shaded, extremely quiet campground. There are many tall pine trees, but we had no trouble navigating through the park with our 40' fifth wheel. There are no hookups available, but are plentiful water spigots and reasonable generator hours. Internet/ phone service was spotty at best with a little spotty wifi available at the market. Laundry facilities were clean and reasonable. Our site wasn't particularly level and was on the left side of the road, putting our living area on the road side. No worries as there was so much room allotted for the rest of the site. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

The mule rides were wonderful, dinner at the Lodge is fabulous, and don't miss the stars from the Lodge veranda! We loved the North Rim- much, much quieter and more laid back than the South Rim.

We spend a week at this campground every year. Reservations must be made 6 months in advance. The camp hosts were not being as vigilant this year cleaning out used fire rings.

Make sure you have everything you need before your trip; otherwise, you will be paying inflated prices at the small grocery in the park. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Site 11. Opened the door and the Grand Canyon is right there. Wow! They said the park was sold out, but it was half empty. Most sites are in the shade all day. We made our reservation 6 months in advance and got the site we wanted. I would come here again and stay longer. Don't miss the sunrise or sunset from the deck of the lodge. It's better than advertised. There is a shuttle for park employees that runs from 6 AM to 10 PM. They let campers use it on a space available basis. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park. We stayed in site 16 which was a rim view site. The view from the campsite was amazing. The Transept Trail runs right beside the picnic table and firepit at this site, so expect lots of hikers to walk by. That did not bother us. The view and size of the campsite was worth it. I would highly recommend this campground. We stayed here 3 nights, We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Previous posts describe the campground well. I am a 33 foot class A motorhome. By my count only 8 sites are listed as adequate for rigs over 27 feet. When I made my reservation all those sites were taken. I looked at the map and reserved site 26 hoping it would be large enough. When I arrived the ranger commented on the size of my RV and questioned if it would fit. When I got to the site I had enough room for the motorhome and my toad with many, many feet to spare. Had I had access to the internet or cell service I would have walked the camp and pick sites large enough for those over 27 feet. The moral of my story is don't be afraid to pick site 26 or rolling the dice on one of the other sites that look large on the map. One note, many of the sites have the door on the wrong side of the site if you comply with the one-way direction of the interior roads. I defied the arrows and put my door facing the picnic table. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

If you are visiting the North Rim, this is you closest option. The campground is very nice, with no hook-ups. The paved roads and pads (along with trees) make some of the driving and parking tight, but the sites are generally large and well spaced out with shade. The shade did interfere some with our top mounted solar panels, but they do allow limited generator use (2 hrs AM / 2 hrs PM). The campground has a dump and freshwater station that is a bit tight but functional. Sites are not all that level. Only a few sites have limited views of the Canyon. The campground has a nice general store, pay showers, and laundry. It is about a 1.2 mile hike from the visitor's center and lodge. The north rim is far away from most major services, but they do have a small gas station on site. We stopped in Kanab for groceries and propane before arriving. The pace of the campground is more relaxed than many of the other NP campgrounds we have visited. The facility has laundry and pay showers. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

The North Rim is a hidden gem, not nearly the number of tourists you'll find at the South Rim, and much prettier. The elevation is 8200 ft. Thick ponderosa pine forest, clean, sweet air. You can even schedule a mule ride into the canyon, on the spot, where as the So Rim you would need a 6 month reservation. The sites are all pull-through, with lots of space in between sites. You get a picnic table and fire pit. The park service store is great, lots of groceries, camp equipment, clothing, expresso and soft serve ice cream. We were surprised at their prices, very reasonable. We saw deer, buffalo, and antelope. The lodge and cabins are historical and well kept. There were ranger programs and nature walks avail. Will definitely stay here again, only longer. We got in without a reservation, but it's best to go online and reserve ahead of time. I think we just got lucky. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We stayed in space 20 for 5 nights and were happy with it but would have liked just a bit more shade. I think you can book a year in advance online now so if you want to visit, book it as early as possible. Plus if you have a big rig like us, there are only 7 or 8 spots that are large enough. This place is a great camping experience. Tall trees everywhere, beautiful canyon views, great weather. The spots are quite large with plenty of privacy although navigating the campground itself can be a little hairy as very narrow roads in some parts. We didn't even attempt the dump station, it was that tight. I would stay here again even with no hook-ups and the restrictive generator policy. And they do enforce this policy. They drove around everyday after curfew to make sure geny's were turned off. Highly recommend. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

The campground was excellent, great store and bathrooms in every loop area. The only drawback was the pay showers have no heads on them in either men or women side. Water comes out a open pipe and is very forceful. Sites are uneven and require front and side leveling. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Wonderful experience! No hookups, No pool, No activities, but what a place! Well kept NPS campground, very busy, but not hectic. Lots of shade in the tall pines, and very cool for being in the AZ desert. Hope to go again soon. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful forested campground with 5 of the sites overlooking the North Rim (83 total sites). Very quiet and peaceful, even though it was full. Only about 5 sites will accommodate a 40' RV, but all sites are paved. Generator use restricted to 2 hours in morning and 2 hours in evening. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here because of the proximity to the GC North Rim, knowing that there wouldn't be any hook-ups. Beautiful place! However, a few things to note. First, if you have any breathing problems or problems with altitude (~8,800’/~2,700m), you might want to reconsider staying here. Maybe you just want to visit and then camp at a lower altitude. Second, there are very few sites for 40’ motor homes. You’ll definitely need extra boards/pads to get level due to how they’ve built the sites. Getting through the tree-lined streets to the site wasn’t too bad. Also, they assign spaces on a first-come/first-served basis, and you may see some of the more big rig-friendly sites taken up by a tenter. Grr! Finally, if you need to use your generator, be aware that they can only be used 7am-9am and 6pm-8pm. Other than these items, this was a nice Natl. Park campground and served our purpose nicely. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

When we arrived, there were no available sites. We hovered at the registration area and learned that a camper was leaving a day early and he said we could take his site, which he had reserved last November. It was the best site in the park (site #18) with a clear view of the Canyon and easy access to the trails. Huge, private area in front of the camper. Literally, you could throw a stone and it would go into the Canyon. The strength of this park is clearly location, location, location. The setting is beautiful, and frankly, we think this is what camping is all about. Be prepared for limited electric and water. Generator hours are limited to two hours in the evening and two hours in the morning. Bathrooms are clean. You have to pay for showers and laundry. If you don't have a reservation, plan to get there at 9 a.m. and hover at the registration area. Don't be afraid to take a chance, as there are plenty of other options outside of the park, both in the national forest and shortly outside of the gates. There is no question that this is a fabulous campsite. For those very adventurous, there is a shuttle that takes you from one Rim to the other. If you want an exciting experience, plan to hike Rim-to-Rim. The record Rim-to-Rim trip was a little over 3 hours and has stood for decades. Plan for it to take a little longer, but you can easily get shuttled. A lot of pets in this park. (That was the only negative aspect for us!) Beautiful stars. Gas station in convenient location, and nice store within walking distance of the sites. Check the corner gas station for the nightly cookout. Plan to eat at least one meal at the Lodge, because the view is fantastic. Morning sunrise at the Lodge is a high recommendation. Plenty of Ranger programs available for family. The staff and the volunteers are simply the best! (Almost makes me proud to pay taxes!) Without a doubt, we will stay here any time we travel to the Canyon. We camped at North Rim Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.
