Another KOA in transition, unfortunately the labor appears to be unskilled. Some of the staff were great, some not so much. extremely tight spaces. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This isn't the worst campground we've ever been in, but it's close to it. When we went in to register, the woman in the office was not friendly. The next day when I went in there with a question, another woman was at the desk and was very friendly. So it's a crap shoot as to whether you're greeted as a guest or as a nuisance. The roads and sites are not delineated at all. You can't tell where the site ends and the road begins. For those of you with a dog, the same holds true for the dog walking area, which is at the back of the campground and is about 10 feet wide and runs the length of the campground. The laundry is expensive, and the air conditioner in there doesn't throw out cold air. It's no better than a fan. This place is definitely not worth the money they charge. Needless to say, we won't be back. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Motorhome.

This can only be described as a muddy gravel pit. The sites and roads are basically poorly drained hard packed dirt with a thin layer of gravel so when it rains its a mess and stays that way for a while. Because the entire campground is gravel its hard to determine where the road ends and your site begins, so campers were parked haphazardly and often uncomfortably close. There is traffic noise from nearby Interstate 40 on one side and constant train noise on the other. Unfortunately the other campgrounds in town are just as bad so if you want to visit Petrified Forrest NP this may be your best choice. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Motorhome.

As with most KOAs the cost was a high for what you get. We normally don't stay at KOAs for this reason. The only exceptional thing about this park was the staff manning the office. They were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We would stay here again because of them. The park itself was pretty ordinary. Everything worked and the site was adequate. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Easy access, quiet, level (didn't unhitch), utilities worked, good satellite view, roughly 10 ft between sites so fairly private. This is is our 5th time at this park and will stay again. Good overnight spot or multi night to visit Petrified NP. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Holbrook - Petrified Forest KOA - All gravel, but no dust (some have said "parking lot" - a little better compared to some camps I've been); very easy off I-40. Very clean; nice store; Allowed be to wash to front of my rig of dust and bugs; Wifi (doesn't seem very fast at all but I am on the last site), using my Verizon 2-3 bars LTE. Sites adequate with picnic table, some with trees. Really nice playground with volleyball, basketball, tetherball, pool area. Really clean and grassy enclosed puppy yard on one side of the park so not too convenient for me but a very convenient dog walk area on my side of park. Nice "cook-out" area for campers in addition to the "Cowboy Cookout" area. Offers a breakfast - all you can eat pancakes with coffee for $2.99; sausage, OJ, Milk, eggs for add'l charge. Evening "Cowboy Cookout" of New York Steak with "petrified toast" ($16.99), Chicken Breast filet ($11.09), Cheeseburger ($6.50), Hamburger ($6.00) chiliburger ($7.25), Hot dog ($4.75) - dinners served with ranch beans and potato salad. Sides of potato salad, ranch beans, soda, petrified toast, bowl of chili and hotdog available. Rate of $46.88 for 50amp full hook-up and 37 channels of cable. $14.06 discount for 3 nights with my KOA card. Petrified Forest is 35 miles back east; Winslow AZ is 34 miles west; and Meteor Crater 60 miles west. I would stay here again. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a KOA in transition. It's obvious that they are upgrading many of the full hook up sites and when finished these sites will be pretty good. However in the present what you get is a gravel site with a picnic table thrown in and tightly packed sites. If you get anything but their deluxe sites then be prepared to see your neighbors up close and personal. We lucked out and had an end unit and this gave us way more room then most, so ask for one if available. The drawback is that WIFI reception is far from the office and spotty at best. I also did not like that the water line and sewer were right next to each other, not a very sanitary set up. Overall acceptable overnight stop or a couple of days like we did so we could visit the Petrified Forest (about 25 miles away). We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Motorhome.

This appears to be a park in transition. Yes it is all gravel but you are in the desert after all. We did have an end site so we had plenty of room. They could do a little better in marking the roadways so that you know how far you can pull you camper into the spot. The premium sites are still being worked but look like they will be great. They have wood walls between each site for privacy. Looks like they are getting new tables and furniture as well. Lots of new trees that will improve the looks of the park. New cottages being built, patios being added, and ground work being done. Very clean and the cowboy bbq adds a nice touch. The wifi was terrible. It would keep cutting on and off. They need more repeaters throughout the park. I do agree with another reviewer that the fresh water right next to the sewer is not very sanitary. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Holbrook has a county museum that is worth a visit. They only ask for donations. We spent the better part of a whole day at Petrified Forest NP. Walk the 1 mile on the Jasper Forest trail. Takes you on a walk right into a field of petrified trees.

Nice park with friendly staff. Basic, but they are adding more things like another laundry room, wood walls between spots, etc. They have a cowboy cook out and pancake breakfast. The breakfast was slow to come, but tasted good. Some sites are close to the interstate, but ours was far enough we didn't hear or notice the freeway. Nice dog run!! Big enough to play ball, which was great for our active lab! We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Typically over-priced KOA but Holbrook is a poor town. It seemed reasonably safe in the campground and cooled down at night. The wifi was much better than most RV parks. Nothing special.

This is the worst KOA park I've stayed at in 17 years. The sites are too narrow, electricity went out 3 times, wi-fi is sub par, the shower nozzles either face out into the dressing area or you have to stand up next to the wall to rinse off, the rates are much to high for the accommodations offered. I'll never stay here again. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fix the wi-fi, lengthen the sites (about 5' too short for tow vehicle), make them wider, fix the showers, put in fire rings - spend a little money on maintenance of this park. We had to park our car right outside the door which made the site seem even narrower.

We were on a home bound leg and just needed a place to stay. This is not a destination park; but it is clean, has a good store, every unit is a pull through and was a good value for our stop-over needs. There is a lot of new planting and in a year or two this will be a much prettier setting. It is on our list of reliable parks. We camped at Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA in a Motorhome.

Pretty average KOA. Sewer connection was set up really high above ground. Bathrooms were dated but clean, fair water pressure for shower. Laundry was clean, well-kept. Very nice gift shop and groceries/cold drinks. Easy drive to Safeway and fast food and gas. My only complaint was that the place was practically deserted and they crammed all of us that were there (about 6) into one row side by side - maybe everyone requested near the bathrooms like we did?? Tips for other Campers:

Petrified Forest & painted desert are nearby (40 minute drive). Canyon de Chelly is quite a drive (practically 2 hours) - - -but the rock formations were breathtaking second only to Grand Canyon. Hubbell trading Post is a MUST - so interesting and they have wonderful Navajo Rugs/wallhangings for sale.
