There are no facilities; no power, no water, no sewer. For $10 you get a space to park next to 89A. You are right by national forest land where you can boondock for free, without putting up with noise and campfire smoke from neighbors.

The camp hosts are quite organized and good. The trees make satellite reception hard. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

About as close to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon as possible without being in the park. If you have time, drive over to Pipe Spring National Monument; it was great.

We spent 5 nights here because we couldn't get in to the Grand Canyon North Rim Campground. We really enjoyed our stay in spite of the 40-mile (one-way) drive to the canyon. We spent at least half the days driving and hiking on National Forest land near the canyon rim but outside the park. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful and the sites were beautiful and spacious. The pit toilets were always clean and fresh smelling (good job!). We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Easy in/easy out and big rig friendly. The roads are gravel, as are the sites, and there's a decent amount of space between sites, but there isn't any privacy. There are both back-in and pull-thru sites available. Our site (22) was relatively level. There are no hook ups and no dump station. Water is available, but I don't believe there's a threaded hose. Bathrooms are pit toilets, but we didn't use them so can't attest to the cleanliness. The campground is located across the street from the Jacob Lake Inn, which has a restaurant and bakery, a gift shop, and limited groceries. There's also a gas station. Camp hosts were friendly and welcoming. Although the reservation site for the campground showed that the campground wouldn't open until May 15, we called to check and were told that the campground was already open. When we arrived on the afternoon of May 14, the camp host said that the weather had been so nice they opened the campground a few days early. Verizon service worked well. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

First stayed here last May in a tent. It was cold. This year I brought my travel trailer. Thank goodness because it was even colder. Whatever the weather May and September are the best months if you want to avoid the crowds at the Grand Canyon. Last year I came without reservations and had no problems. Tried it again this year and got the last first come/first served site. I love this park. So I now recommend making reservations. Vault or so called "sweet smelling toilets" were very clean. Pit toilets are rarely found except in very primitive areas any more. Thank goodness. Showers are available at the RV park across the road. There is no dump in the area and this is a pain. We dumped at Kanab, Utah. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots of good hikes in the area. Check at the Visitors Center across the road for suggestions. Don't miss the Grand Canyon. We spent one full day there and it was enough. Eating at the Lodge is a treat.

Always check the weather in May. Snow is possible and the Grand Canyon may not open as scheduled due to late May storms. You can commute from Jacobs Lake to Zion but its a long round trip. We elected to move to Kanab, UT and visit Zion from there. Were glad we did.

Stunning star-filled nights really illuminate this campground. Is it a resort? No. Is it basic camping at it's best? Yes.

Easy driving distance to the Grand Canyon and beautiful Route 89 and 89A.

Big enough even for our 45' motorhome.

Don't miss this hidden gem if on the north side of the Grand Canyon. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't miss the drive eastbound down Route 89A. Scenic, not crowded and loaded with places to stop and 'smell the roses'.

Be careful when driving to the Grand Canyon from here in the early morning or early evening. Lots of deer!

This is a great little park. No hook-ups but in a beautiful Forest Service park in a pine forest. Bathrooms were pit toilets but were very clean. Host arrived at our camp site soon after set up and introduced herself and was very helpful. Firewood sold and brought to your site every afternoon. We had a large pull thru site that faced the forest for a very private and quite site. Only complaint was people traveling to fast and dust from gravel road. ATT worked great and satellite worked great from our site. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

This campground is just the best. Lots of Ponderosas, but still got great satellite TV and Verizon reception. There are no services which is fine, but (!) beware - your fridge may not work on propane because of the altitude. The camp is at 8,400 ft. Firewood is available and the night skies are just dazzling. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Return visit and what impressed me the most this time was the cleanliness of the rest rooms; even hand sanitizer and a plastic garbage bag for those folks who can't resist throwing something into a pit toilet - regardless of signage. Friendly camp hosts who even come around near evening time to see if you want to purchase any firewood - perhaps a cottage industry for them; they do seem burdened by paperwork, especially for only a $9 overnight fee and if you write a check . Gravel roads and sites, fairly close to level, lots of space between sites. Verizon service was good. There are water spigots near the rest rooms. Still a bonus to have the Jacob Lake Lodge/restaurant right across the street. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you go to Jacob Lake Lodge (and you should!) eat at the counter instead of the restaurant; the food is basically the same but less expensive; same great service; OR, simply go to the cookie/ice cream counter and select one of their many flavors of thick or regular milk shakes - like Tony Tiger says "they're Great!"

Hard to beat most USFS campgrounds if you can do without hookups. Even though it was close to US Rte 89A where people drive like idiots, the noise level was subdued and barely noticeable. The only issue I had were kids from other sites repeatedly running through our site. Thankfully, they left after 1 day. The showers/restrooms were clean and the sites were spacious. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Great value for the price. Plan to visit again next year with my travel trailer. Large private sites. Easy back-ins with a few pull-through sites also. Big rig friendly. Gas station, restaurant and small historical motel just across the road. There is a hiking trail just back of the campground hidden behind a vault toilet. Host were helpful and visible. Vault toilets were very clean. There is a private RV park with full hookups nearby where RVs are packed in like sardines. But if you must have hookups it is the only show in town. I will gladly forgo hook ups for space and privacy so I loved this little NFS campground. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Tent.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't miss the little cafe/bakery/ motel/gift shop across the road. The french toast with homemade bread is to die for. The gift shop has lots of quality items and the cafe is decorated with wonderful wall hangings.

There are public showers at a store halfway to the Grand Canyon.

It can be cold in June so bring some warm clothes.

Very nice camp host and campground well maintained. Our rate was based on our senior pass rate. Camped here 2 nights while we explored the North Rim. We had a pull through site but it was barely big enough for our 37' motor home and tow. No hookups and did not use the bathrooms. Beautiful scenery in the tall pines. Would stay here again on our way through. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Great place to park a big motorhome and drive a tow vehicle to the North Rim, as long as you realize there are no hookups or dump station. Sites are big. Many are OK for satellite. Verizon data service is good. We loved it. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

This is a convenient campground en-route to the North Rim Grand Canyon. There is drinking water available, but no fill up for rvs, so bring your own. The Verizon cell phone worked great here. It is a pretty forested area. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Very basic place to stay but its usually in a good position as we head north from Phoenix & we like to avoid Page. Plus, its right across the street form the Jacob Lake store where you can view some wonderful Native American weaving & other goods as well as get the best milkshake you've had in a long time. Vault toilets were clean, dirt/gravel roads & fairly level sites. Surrounded by pine forest. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Motorhome.

Large, 2 loop NFS campground, just off the main highway, with sites for all types and sizes of camping rigs, from tents to motor mansions. IMO, better than private park just down the road as sites are bigger, wider and more space between. Just that there are no hook ups. The rate reflects Access Pass rate. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon in August, there was no one here but the friendly camp host. Good verizon air card, no AT&T cell at all, DirectTV was good through the trees. Wish there was a dump site though, but water spigots are at each bathroom, and bathrooms (pit toilets) were clean and lighted at night. There is some road noise from the main highway located next to the campground and some light spills into the South loop from the gas station complex located across highway from campground, so you're not totally in the dark at night here. We definitely would stay here again if we were coming this way. We camped at Jacob Lake Campground - USFS in a Fifth Wheel.
