As I write this I have about 15 guinea hens running around my picnic table foraging for whatever and a jack rabbit about three sites down. I am also drinking my morning coffee watching the sun reflect off the Colorado river (just downside of the Hoover Dam) and watching the sun climb down the steep mountain sides. If you ever wanted to camp at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, this is as close as one could ever get! Some RV campgrounds are layovers for other destinations. This is a destination campground. One can take a motorized raft ride right up to the very foot of the dam, plus jet ski and kayak. Cell is spotty, if at all, but WiFi is slow but doable. Full hookups, and sites are almost spectacular in their own right. Concrete pads, borders, and tables. Did I mention you have to drive down 4 1/2 miles into the canyon to get here off of Hwy. 93. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Wonderful campground with stunning views all around! There are 28 full hookup sites (a mix of pull through and back-in) with 30/50 amp hookup and 9 tent camping sites. All sites are concrete and spacious with a picnic table and fire ring. We stayed in A7, a pull through site with a small view of Lake Mead. The campground is situated at the top of a steep hill to take advantage of the views but is quite far from the lake itself (and would be difficult to walk/bike there). All utilities worked well, but there were zero over-the-air channels and absolutely no Verizon signal. We used the free Wifi and it worked great. Bathrooms had 4 toilets and 3 sinks and were reasonably clean. There are 4 private showers, but we didn't use them. They also have a small laundry area with 2 washers and dryers. The campground has a nice store with necessities and the prices were reasonable. They also have a small café onsite which serves breakfast, hamburgers/hot dogs, etc. but they are only open Friday-Sunday until Memorial Day (not sure what days they are open after that). Marina has slip rentals, boat rentals and kayak/paddle board rentals. You can also take a raft trip to Hoover Dam which departs directly from the campground. There is a nice fishing dock and small beach area for swimming, but be aware that the water is a constant 54 degrees so it is very cold! The biggest drawback to this campground is the 4 mile road to get there. It's steep, narrow and winding, with blind curves and parts of the road missing so take care and go slow. It's surprising as nice as this campground is that the park has not addressed the poor condition of this road. Once you get into the park, the roads are great and easy to navigate. We enjoyed our stay, but most likely will not return due to the road, lack of cell service and distance from town. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The nearest town is Boulder City about 25 minutes away for groceries, gas, etc. Hoover Dam is just outside Boulder City and was definitely worth the trip. They are not giving tours at this time because they are doing elevator repairs (check their website to see when repairs are completed). They are doing roadwork around the dam also, so expect delays when driving there. The park has a fish hatchery on site which you can tour for free.

Awesome clean and quite campground four miles from AZ Highway 93. Stayed a couple of nights. Great for boaters, fishing, hiking and sightseeing. Water is frickin cold though coming right out of Hoover Dam. Went to the self guided free tour at the fish hatchery. 40' RV site was pricey at $50 per night. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Motorhome.

Gorgeous site with lots of room. Very quiet. Very poor cell service, though we got a bar or two of 3G with our cell booster. The provided WiFi was pretty poor, but that was the only thing wrong. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Motorhome.

Beautiful scenery! Spacious lots. Site surface is a concrete pad featuring a fire ring and picnic table.

Park needs a shuttle service for RV'ers who don't have a tow vehicle behind motorhome, to access Marina, water more easily. A very steep grade from Marina/Water to RV Campground. Rock trail is no easier! If you have no tow vehicle with your motorhome, you best be able to scale the hill. I'm surprised disabled RV'ers are not given more consideration! A shuttle/golf cart pick up each hour to and from Marina to Campsites would be easy to do and give someone a job too!

We were disappointed in how many RV'ers leave trash behind! Shame on them!! The Marina staff are wonderful, very helpful, thank you! We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Motorhome.

This is a gorgeous campground with views of the Colorado and surrounding canyon. It was 114° when we pulled into our site in early July and only got down into the low 90°s at night, so expect the heat if visiting in the summer. The site was an immaculate pull-through with good water pressure (all water was hot- no need for a water heater!) and electric. No cell service, but free wifi available. The road into the campground is steep, rough, and curvy. Would not be fun at all in a rainstorm! We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Fifth Wheel.

There are many Gamble's quail around the campground as well as big horned sheep which come down from the mountains to drink from the river.

Great park to visit Hoover Damn and to kayak the Colorado River. The site was great and had plenty of space and was easy to get into. The sites are gravel and during our time there the heat was intense Great place to Kayak. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Fifth Wheel.

This was an overnight stop for us and I selected it based on other reviews - it was an excellent choice. I may be a bit biased because I feel we had the best site in the campground, A7. A long pull through with good spacing from other sites and a large picnic area. We were the highest rv site in the campground and had a little view of the water. The road down from the highway is narrow and a bit winding with some lumpy patches from the many times the water and dirt have crossed it in rainstorms. During our one night stay it rained hard all night and we wondered if we might get to stay an extra day or two because of road closure but no such luck. The roads and the sites are all paved and other than the one or two next to the restrooms, they all seemed to be nice sites. Verizon did not work, not even a blip. I suspect this might be a very warm place in the summer and is probably very popular for families. This is in a NRA so you need to pay to enter or have a park pass. Register at the marina store. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Fifth Wheel.

One of my absolute favorite places to stay! Not much to do, and no recreational facilities other than boat rentals and hiking trails, but drop-dead gorgeous views. Road into the campground has been washed out a few times in flash floods, but campground itself is safe because it is high above the river. Roads in campground are paved and in very good condition, as are campsites and all facilities. Sites have a large cement pad and asphalt entrances to pad. No cell service, but free WiFi worked fine, especially with my booster. Also, I was pleased to find a washer and dryer available, which is a very nice bonus. Incredibly quiet and dark at night, which is hard to find these days. I would love to rent a boat sometime, but cannot do that alone. I am taking their raft trip from Hoover Dam next weekend. Incredible value for a full hookup site with senior pass. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Motorhome.

This part of Lake Mead was unknown to me at first because I was unaware that Lake Mead extended to Arizona. This little gem is right on the lake, very beautiful when the sun rises. It was VERY hot as well.

We only stayed for one night but it was great. The bathrooms are near by. If you have a boat, there's a boat landing as well. It was very dark and quiet at night, but the parking lot is well lit. Also, if you don't like bugs, bring bug spray and some Off. We didn't explore all that much, but it was fun. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Travel Trailer.

Excellent desert RV park not far from Colorado River. Sites have spacious, level, concrete pads, and utilities are good. Campground has strong, reliable WiFi. Sites are high up on hill, away from possibility of flash floods, so plan for a walk to the river! We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Motorhome.

Traveled with a small group of campers and we all had very nice campsites. It's a long way from the water and store but still very enjoyable. There is little to no cell service in the area. The also is no clubhouse for groups to use. There are handicap spaces available. We camped at Lake Mead Recreational Area - Willow Beach in a Motorhome.

Beautiful spacious sites, fantastic views, staff that will bend over backwards to make your stay perfect. We loved this place! Caution: 4.4 miles of narrow 2 lane paved road takes you from 93 down into the camp. Its not bad, just be careful and go slow. Can't say enough about the staff. We moved sites, received UPS packages and interacted with all the staff finding them to be highly motivated and a total joy. Very big rig friendly with all the water, hiking and biking opportunities you can ask for! Check in at the marina store before going up the hill to the campground. Highly recommend the long raft trip. Book at the marina and plan on about 4 hours total. Hiking trails around the Hoover Dam for all levels of ability. Check out the Clark County Museum. Its a bargain at $2 per person.

This is considerably off the main road, but very nice and quiet. The sites are large, clean, and paved. Gorgeous views on all sides. The sites closest to the river have a small view of the Colorado River, but I stayed closest to the restrooms because that is where the free Wi-Fi hookup was. No cell service at all, but I managed with WiFi. Only about 15 miles to Hoover Dam, so a good place to stay on your way through that area.
